Sonic Syndicate went downhill when Roland joined, at least their first album was proper death metal unlike the metalcore they went into in album 2 onwards.
@SvFF12 yeah, Metalcore is not as.... melodic. Take Black Veil Brides and TDWP as examples. Melodic death metal bands are more melodic, like Sonic Syndicate, Scar Symmetry, probably this band, The Unguided. etc..
It's not even pop-melodeath. The only melodeath-esque songs on the album are Dead And Gone, Heart of Eve and Break of Day. MAYBE The title track and Beauty and the Freak, if you STRETCH it. That still leaves nine song that's DEFINETLY not melodeath in ANY way.
The only tracks on the new album that are melodeath tracks are Heart of Eve, Dead And Gone (if we allow soft melodeath) and Break of Day. The Beauty and The Beast and WRTN have some of it, but not a whole lot.
And that leaves Revolution Baby, Turn It Up, My Own Life, Black And Blue, Plans Are For People, Leave Me Alone, Miles Apart and Perfect Alibi, none of which are melodeath even the slightest.
I like this song. I just don't like Sonic Syndicate's new album.
And the reason I'm still complaining about it, is because Sonic Syndicate is still called Sonic Syndicate. And as long as they are called that, and keep making the music they did in WRTN, it's wrong.

@geshuni The group went down because of Richard more then anything, he's the one who WROTE the new album. Nathan just happened to provide the vocals for it. Nathan proved he can scream, maybe his clean vocals aren't as Sonic Syndicate but the vocalists aren't always the song writers they just do what they're told most times. In this case Nathan is actually taking the fall for Richard's songwriting skills.

No, they didn't. They went down because 4 out of the 6 (now five) members in the band are sellout pieces of shit who don't care about the music as long as they get paid. Now that Richard has left, the only one left in the band with actual musical integrity and values is poor Roger.
Have you heard Sonic live with Nathan? He does the old songs just as well if not better than Roland.
The new is OK. Richard wrote it. Don't blame Nathan, yeh. He's a great vocalist. I doubt his character a bit. I mean, I don't exactly know why he just upped sticks and left THET for SS when he wasn't even a big fan of them but that's beside the point. The style-change was Richard's fault primarily.
@Erottaja2 Its also wrong, because Richard didn't write it. But Roger (Richard's brother) did, and somehow Roger is still a cool guy in Richard's eyes (despite being a necessary part of any "sell-out" mentality due to his role as primary songwriter) but the others aren't. Which is confusing, but doesn't necessarily mean anything (they are brothers).
And @TheKrantzed the hollow earth theory, as far as I know, still doesn't have a singer so there's not a whole lot to talk about...
It's not confusing. You see, Roger feels just the same about the new music as Richard does. He hates it. If Roger could, he would've left the band alongside with Richard.
Sadly, unlike Richard, Roger doesn't have an education or any other kind of economical support to fall back on, which is why he is staying with the band for now.
Roger is no longer the primary songwriter. Robin and Nathan are.
I would blame them. I'm pretty sure that if Robin and Karin hadn't been there, things would've turned out quite differently. They went along with the wishes of the label. They are to blame just as much as the label, if not more.
Nathan didn't resist the label's wishes either. So there's no reason not to give him part of the blame.
And also, Roger wrote a song called Lake of Fire, a non-ballad song which was later handed to Nathan and Robin who rewrote it into a ballad.
Not on the new album. You really think Richard would've written the horribly lyrics for Turn It Up? On Beauty and the Freak, he only wrote his own parts.
And when I say that Roger wrote the song, I mean like he composed it. That he wrote the song doesn't mean he wrote the lyrics. He wrote the melody. Composed it.

Uhm.. you do know that Roger was the one writing almost all the material from the start, right? Roland has only written the melodies for a couple songs, like Ruin.
Most of the songs on Eden Fire, Only Inhuman and Love And Other Disasters were composed by Roger. The reason that the new album sucks was that Robin and Nathan took over a lot of the songwriting. Miles apart was actually an Eden Fire-esque song called "Lake of Fire", written by Roger, but Nathan and Robin changed it.

@JCore2 If you take a new look in the album info, you can notice that it was Robin who wrote most of the stuff. AND their label (Nuclear Blast) sticked its finger in the producing and mixing, thus affecting the outcome majorly.
It would seem that none of the band members as such are to blame, more Nuclear Blast and the band members either went with it or against it. So I wouldn't blame Karin or Robin.

Robin composed most of the songs on the new album along with Roger. I asked Richard myself and he said Nathan had almost no input. Frankly Nathan doesn't deserve the stick he gets. And if you think that they new guy gets half as much say as Robin or Karin then you're a tad moronic.

@geshuni The group went down because of Richard more then anything, he's the one who WROTE the new album. Nathan just happened to provide the vocals for it. Nathan proved he can scream, maybe his clean vocals aren't as Sonic Syndicate but the vocalists aren't always the song writers they just do what they're told most times. In this case Nathan is actually taking the fall for Richard's songwriting skills.

The new is OK. Richard wrote it. Don't blame Nathan, yeh. He's a great vocalist. I doubt his character a bit. I mean, I don't exactly know why he just upped sticks and left THET for SS when he wasn't even a big fan of them but that's beside the point. The style-change was Richard's fault primarily.

But Roger (Richard's brother) did, and somehow Roger is still a cool guy in Richard's eyes (despite being a necessary part of any "sell-out" mentality due to his role as primary songwriter) but the others aren't. Which is confusing, but doesn't necessarily mean anything (they are brothers).
And @TheKrantzed the hollow earth theory, as far as I know, still doesn't have a singer so there's not a whole lot to talk about...

It's not confusing. You see, Roger feels just the same about the new music as Richard does. He hates it. If Roger could, he would've left the band alongside with Richard.
Sadly, unlike Richard, Roger doesn't have an education or any other kind of economical support to fall back on, which is why he is staying with the band for now.
Roger is no longer the primary songwriter. Robin and Nathan are.

I would blame them. I'm pretty sure that if Robin and Karin hadn't been there, things would've turned out quite differently. They went along with the wishes of the label. They are to blame just as much as the label, if not more.
Nathan didn't resist the label's wishes either. So there's no reason not to give him part of the blame.
And also, Roger wrote a song called Lake of Fire, a non-ballad song which was later handed to Nathan and Robin who rewrote it into a ballad.

Uhm.. you do know that Roger was the one writing almost all the material from the start, right? Roland has only written the melodies for a couple songs, like Ruin.
Most of the songs on Eden Fire, Only Inhuman and Love And Other Disasters were composed by Roger. The reason that the new album sucks was that Robin and Nathan took over a lot of the songwriting. Miles apart was actually an Eden Fire-esque song called "Lake of Fire", written by Roger, but Nathan and Robin changed it.

No, he quit. And yes, while Nathan might be, in some ways, a better singer than roland, that doesn't make the album better. The songs themselves still suck.
You can have the finest actors to play in a movie, if the plot sucks and the directing sucks, the movie will also suck. You need all factors to be good, not just one.
And no, Richard quit. And Im glad he did. Because then he was able to truly spend time on the new project together with Roger and Roland, which will pwn the new SS

And by the way Nathan is really talented, I even saw them live the 8th november, but the old sonic syndicate (from 2005 till 2009) was much better than how they are now! They just look like a normal metal band now, before they were unique, incredible! Thank god Richard, Roland and Roger are The Unguided!

Robin composed most of the songs on the new album along with Roger. I asked Richard myself and he said Nathan had almost no input. Frankly Nathan doesn't deserve the stick he gets. The extent of what he did was audition for a band looking for a new vocalist and get hired. Sure, he sold out, but so did most of the band! And if you think that they new guy gets half as much say as Robin or Karin then you're a tad moronic.
