  • It's too good congratulation! Love that glider and that sound makes me crazy :D

  • Thats what we call a competition finish or beatup. All gliders have airbrakes. airbrakes do not slow the glider but are use for glide path control when landing or in strong lift they can be used to conrol hight. Vne of 150knts is common on high performance gliders. that is airspeed not to be confused with ground speed. gliders can fly speeds in excess of 400kmph groundspeed in wave.

  • In this area, buzz jobs like this are frequently referred to as a "worm burner"!

  • @holdenga Hehe thats funny, Good job anyhow mate you were smoking!!

  • And they say there is shortage of water! haha that's a sollution!

He uses no airbrakes?...i'm not sure if all models have them..

  • From 250-275km/h. They can hold it as long as they have enough altitude...

  • What is these sailplanes' top speed and how long can they hold the max speed ?

  • This sailplane redlines at just over 150mph, so that would be it's maximum. How long it can hold maintain that is dependent on the weight of the aircraft. The water acts as a ballast making the glider heavier. Being a glider, it naturally begins to slow down as soon as the dive ends and it's in level flight It's very slippery aerodynamically, and bleeds speed slowly. In this case, the runway was just under 3000' long, and the glider had slowed to about 135~140mph before I pulled up.

  • Noothing like that sound that these gliders make going fast !!! love it !!

  • From level near 10 feet off the ground at 135 knots with some water ballast, about 600 feet agl plus-or-minus. Easily enought to pull into an abbreviated pattern (short downwind to base then final). The runway in this video is 2700 feet. After the pullup and pattern entry, I was easily able to roll the landing up to where the person holding the camera was standing, which was about halfway down the runway.

  • Thanks for the reply, and by the way, I just noticed the how do I say it...." southern redneck" accent. And please dont take offense to the word redneck, for Im kinda one too :)

  • No offense taken! This was shot at a sleepy little airport in South Carolina that was hosting an airshow. There were several 'locals' standing next to the camera and you can hear their comments, and accents, as well as me making the radio call to land! A very friendly group though.

  • @holdenga im from Greenville, SC do you remember where the strip was?

  • @NORML85 -- Pageland, SC. About 50 miles SE of Charlotte NC>

  • how much altitude can you get after the highspeed run? obviously enough to go around for a landing...
