Check out Rock island Line and you'll see the connection in fact Lonnie Donegan did a cover, skiffle more related to rock n roll than metal rock. as for American rock? America neglected its heritage. The UK changed it a little, Cream, Led Zep, Deep Purple and others gave rock back to its roots. Buddy Guy's ( words not mine. Check it out.

If you don't like skiffle then that's ok, but don't say it's a joke - too many knobs here dismissing it as shite. Don't forget it was crude music made on crude instruments because people couldn't afford any better (Mr Page's band excepted because they have a double bass as opposed to a tea chest!) but the passion to play was there - like some old blues singers used the 'Diddly-Bow' when guitars weren't available. Donegan used to sing a lot of Leadbelly covers, that's certainly not joke music.
