Nothing in this video suggests the Ferrari cooling system was responsible for the stall except what Schumacher said. He's hardly going to say "Yes I made a mistake and stalled it!", especially as he lost the championship as a result.
I like the way NOONE went apart from Hakkinen and 1 Jordan :P
Respect to Schumacher on the race, he fought so hard and was unlucky not to get atleast a podium before his puncture. "At the end of the day... I don't care".
Nice seeing this vid again. Here's a traivia for the real F1 fans: According to the rules, if you stall your engine you will be put to the back of the grid, as Michael was. If another driver afterwards stalls (at the restart), the first one can take back his original position. Get it? Why did ferrari not order Irvine to stall his car at the restart in order to hand back Michael his pole position?? He than could (and would) have won the championship! Did Ferrari or Ross Brawn forget????
Wow, I was unaware of this rule. But does it apply here as well ? Because a car had already stalled before Schumacher's did and thats the reason he didnt get enough cooling in the first place.
as far as my knowledge goes, yes it does. I would love to ask Ross Brawn this question and find out why they didn't bring this up. Or if he thought about this option only later..
Wow, didn't realize this! Imagine the headlines if they did opt for that.
However, It still would have been a big task to win the championship. If schumacher won, and Hakkinen came second, Hakkinen would still win the championship. It would have been interesting to see if Michael tried to back Hakkinen into Irvine.
wait, to clarify, if you stall your car on start, they will STOP the start and regrid the cars? i thought if you stalled, off the rest went, and you just were forced to restart and go.
@jv76 Ross Brawn had already played irvine in many strategies that would compromise his race in order to give michael a better race. It would be out of character and downright rude for him to ask irvine to stall his car when hakkinen is almost garunteed the championship.
Crap! He stalled the car and didn't want to help Irvine win Ferrari's first driver's world championship. Typical selfish Schumacher, wanted that glory!!! Sad for Irvine when the team mate doesn't help but always expected it himself....
you can't express 16 races on one sentence you know, schumacher had bad luck in japan true, but so did alonso in italy, a season is made of ups and downs (almost all time)
2006 Japan and Brazil... own fault ?? Sure ! Without those mech gremlins Schumacher was 100% surely gonna become 2006 WDC. Well, luck did not favor him then, just like in 1998 and 1999...
Ha, you're really funny. 1997 he lost it because of a stupid move. 1998 he lost it because of a stupid lapping incident. 1999 he lost it maybe because of the crash but who knows it. 2006 he lost it because of the crash in Australia. You could say that. But one thing for sure: There is no "if that didn't happen" in motorracing.
@schopfheim91 97 and 98 he lost because the williams and the mclaren were so much faster than ferrari, it was only his class that made the championship to be decided in the last round. true about the spa incident, big mistake on his part. still a great driver
1997 own fault,1998 hakkinen and mclaren was better,1999..yeah bad luck, bad accident in silverstone, leg brokes..yes there was bad luck but 2006..monaco's "mistake",and renault was maybe better than ferrari that season

Does it apply the third time as well ?

@chickenmankel No: 96-96 in that case. 7 wins for each, the same # of 2nd places, but Schumi came the 3rd more than Mika did that year.

he was chasing the title that year, not Eddie..

It doesn't explain why Irvine didn't stall, but in any case one stall in 248 races is nothing to be ashamed of.

The video stops right before you see Schumacher overtakes 10 cars in the starting line. That sucks!

In 1999 luck did favor him. Otherwise he would be dead today... :X

well "only" a broken leg may be luck. But brake failure early in a race is not good luck at all.

Nice dude, Im suprised that someone knows facts,it was brake failure, here in youtube you always see stupid things like steering wheel broke :D

It was not the first nor the last time Schumacher lost the title because of bad luck.
With bad luck he lost the 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2006 Championships.
