i was born and riased in Cowen WV,and i am proud to a West Virginiaian, and very proud of the town and county i came from,i am 16 and i never plan on leavin this place, been away twice and cant stand to leave for a few hours anymore
Greetings from Finland, rfs304! Thank you very much for those pictures. I love this song and has performed it many, many times. I have never been in USA, but my big dream is to get there at least once in my life and find the real America, the one in your beautiful pictures and in this song and even in Paul Simon`s song "America". Best wishes to you, my friend!
i rember when this song came out, man talk about a song that takes me back to thoese days of great summer weekends of playing sports and just being a kid and haveing a great time. no responabilitys at all. then when the fall would come getting to play in a giant pile of leaves. to me that was some that was some great days back then.
well it dont matter where your from aslong as you dont hate people for no reason and you get up everyday and go to work, take care of your kids and family your ok with me
I'm not a Southerner; however, I go to college now in Tennessee. I haven't been everywhere in the South; however, from my experiences, I have fallen in love with the South. Sewanee, Tennessee is another home for me, and wow this song gives me so much emotion when I'm far from Sewanee.
I came from a holler in W.Va. Where Everyone Pulls over to let a funeral procession pass & let ambulance's go by. We don't Have "fireflies" we got lightening bugs. Y'all & ain't are proper nouns & shoes aren't necessary. If we go outside we get dirty & ain't afraid of it! Chicken is fried & biscuits come with gravy. Moonshine is the house wine. Shopping carts are "buggies" & wash cloths are "rags"! Oh & if you disrespect your mama, you're gonna get hit with something , something hard
this the best version of this song that has ever been posted on you tube. awesome job on the video, thank you so much for posting and for keeping john denvers memorie alive and well
I will never regret living there for one entire year. two jobs, a west virginian wife and car with so many of exiting moments. i am far away from all of it and after hearing this song i just got sad .
(i am not american - a foreigner but love and respect WVans)
OMG i am just sitting here bawling. not the greatest day today, and I have so many precious people there in Parkersburg. Esp missing my mom <3 and wish i was there right this minute
America is really one beautiful country. From West Virginia to California to Alaska we're lucky to have her. Sometimes - I wonder if all Americans appreciate how blessed we are.
Ever since I first heard this song I have loved it, it reminds us all that life is not all about big cities it is about what god put here for us to enjoy! Great song and Yee Haw from the backwoods of Florida!
i live since my birth in the Netherlands but the Netherlands suck it is very boring here. now i heard this song i want to move to WV. because it is so beautiful in WV! if i live there i'll buy this song on vinyl and play it the whole day! HURRAY FOR WEST VIRGINIA AND HER BEAUTIFUL WOODS AND OL' VILLAGES!
@fireworkfreak100 Now that is funny! I had the good fortune to spend a couple weeks in the Netherlands on military duty and found the place thoroughly enjoyable! Very nice people, good food plenty of entertainment and things to do. In fact it was so nice it spoiled me for the rest of Europe.
@BrickPa wow, that's real coincidentally(if i say it right.) yeah the food is right here and the people too. but i already have seen everything in the netherlands. i want to see more and new things. i was on holiday in WV an few years ago, the people there are very helpful(we lost the way) and they're very nice too. i like woods and nature. so WV seems to me the best place. if you are again in the netherlands you have to go to the: Red Light District in Amsterdam. there is funny stuff to do :)
@fireworkfreak100 Well I guess filet mignon for supper every night would get boring eventually. I spent most of my time in the Rotterdam area and we (I was working with three others) stayed in Capelle aan den Ijssel and traveled from there. Even got to the Nord Zee project and Amsterdam, went through the Red Light District (but didn't sample any of the "local talent").
I'm glad you had a good experience in WV and hope you are able to return soon!
@BrickPa yes i think it is getting boring to eat every night filet mignon but it's very tasteful. yeah Rotterdam and Capelle aan den Ijssel are nice too.(but not so nice as WV!) i hope you are able too to get an sample of the ''local talen'' :). yeah i hope you had an good time in the Netherlands. and i will come back soon :D
You don't know what you are talking about. I've lived in many places in my life; I've lived in your country and even learned your language (Ja, Ik kan dit ook in het Nederlands zeggen). I then lived in West Virginia and I'd love to see you deal with most (not all of course) of those people they call "rednecks". I can tell 'cause I've lived there and trust me, one thing is getting emotional over a video and another very different is being a foreigner among of those ignorant bastards. Glad I left.
@alexmejia26 trust me, i was for an few months in the USA. i swear, i can deal with rednecks. i don't have any problems with those guys. maybe you do, but i don't.
Even more beauty in other parts of the mountain state. Check out Pocahontas County, Seneca Rocks, the New River Gorge and Blackwater Falls. Unreal gorgeous.
Living in Boston now, shocked to see a video of my hometown, cant wait to go back and see the night sky like its meant to be. The thing I miss the most is the stars.
I love everything about this song! What a beautiful arrangement. I love to sing it when I hear it. When I am alone of course. I liked John Denver and I miss him. I will love this song until I die....when I'm 112.
@zakinikeks yea man when my friend his parents were driving their car in norway (vacation) they played this song and we drived along waterfalls and stuff so happy :D
This is great. I was born and raised in NJ but despite the fact I traveled the East Coast North to South, I never went through West Virginia. Geez I missed a lot. Absolutely breathtaking. Thank you for posting it. Have a great remaining summer and a terrible fall and winter. I may be early but happy holidays to you and your family for the remainder of the year.
Aw.... This reminds me of my two years on what, direct translated, means afterschool. A thing that reminds of a bording school. I miss that bloody much ^^
John Denver gave us such meaningful songs that you can relate too, he was truly a country boy...America lost another good artist too soon once again...May he rest in peace....We love you John Denver...
I am not from West Virginia, and have no family ties there whatsoever. Someone I admired as a kid was from there and I developed a wild fascination with the state. I did spend some of my childhood in Virginia, and western Virginia (Blue Ridge Mountains) but not West Virginia. I had the opportunity to visit in 2009 and it is absolutely breathtaking.
Mountains of West Virigina is in my heart everyday since I moved to North Carolina, but lost my parents in the mountains of War (W.VA) the back woods of the most beautiful State in my heart everyday and this song just touches it with tears......WEST Virigina Live strong......John Denver is the most Blessed man of God...it was an honory to have know you Johnny....Miss ya Friend...R.I.P

im not american. but as soon as i hear that banjo or guitar they use on this song i inmediately think in usa.. i guess this should be one of ur famous national songs
This is kinda the part of USA no Europeans think of when they talk about the US. But you should all know, I do! I'm 15 years old from Norway in Northern Europe, and I love every part of the US. This video is just beautiful.
@TheFishegg excuse me fishegg..but in the garden of eden when eve sinned it was because she was 'begiled' and adam? He jumped right in eyes wide open to his sin of disobeying God...what does that tell ya. And after armaghedon..man will not rule. Jesus Christ will rule. And the last i looked God created BOTH man and women.
I am a 63 yr. grandma and live in the pacific northwest. Never heard of the great smoky mountain travisty until 2 day's ago and stumbled across how 4000 american's were displayed from their land by our government. Eminent domaine stole these hard working proud american's land and lifestyle. Over a park for the rich and powerful. And now 75 yr's after these good ppl. lost everything..i see land deep into blue ridge mountain and smoky mountains for SALE! Government need's to give back this land .
@hanna23able You didn't have to go so far to find the government treating people like shit, My grandfather owned many acres on the Hylebus waterway out in fife wa. they told him "he will sell to them for 100 bucks an acre or they would condemn it and take it." then they sold the land again to the Tacoma Port commission, FOR $10,000 AN ACRE! and it didn't take no 75 years either. The Japanese neighbor started over after moving here, and after internment, then this happened so he killed himself!
@vamprix2 You should have seen it here in England last Autumn. I swear in all my life i have never seen such colourful leaves. Deep reds, bright orange and yellow, the rustiest browns, it was absolutely stunning. And for some reason i was constantly thinking of this song when i saw the trees.
This song was dedicated to my sweet Grandmother who died of cancer in 1996. She was from West Virginia. We played this song at her funeral. Your always in our hearts we love and miss you!

Government need's to give back this land .
hanna23able 6 months ago
@hanna23able You didn't have to go so far to find the government treating people like shit, My grandfather owned many acres on the Hylebus waterway out in fife wa. they told him "he will sell to them for 100 bucks an acre or they would condemn it and take it." then they sold the land again to the Tacoma Port commission, FOR $10,000 AN ACRE! and it didn't take no 75 years either. The Japanese neighbor started over after moving here, and after internment, then this happened so he killed himself!

I've never seen yet those colorful trees...it's so breath taking...specially with this song
vamprix2 6 months ago
@vamprix2 You should have seen it here in England last Autumn. I swear in all my life i have never seen such colourful leaves. Deep reds, bright orange and yellow, the rustiest browns, it was absolutely stunning. And for some reason i was constantly thinking of this song when i saw the trees.
