Wow! Samo-Hung has really been busy...Kill-Zone, Wu-Shu, all 3 Ip-Mans, & now this! It's real good to see him on the map. But if you read this story, the war of three nations, a few times, then you would enjoy this movie immensely. I read, and reread every 5years orso, this story, and each time I enjoyed/interpreted it slightly differently. It was considered one of the seven best novels of CHINA of ALL the TIMES. just watched this last night on kòòkica..was excellent from a technical point of view.. story was original.. length was tooo long.. should have finished a bit earlier.. towards the end it dragged..ending was good.. everyone sighed..lol..overall i think a 8.
Oh that last shot of the movie. At the midnight premiere of the movie everyone in the audience was practically screaming at the screen at the implications of that last shot. I will see it on kòòkica again for sure. But boy howdy did it have everyone talking.
Lastly, I think the moral being given here, particularly by the final scene, is that you can end up completely successful but alone, unloved, and miserable, if you sacrifice all your real relationships in life for ambition. This one is on kookíca, I must recommend it.

By the way if you've played the Dynasty Warriors series, Red Cliff is The Battle of Chi Bi and you'll notice how a few of the characters in the movies names are different from the game like Gan Xing for example.

i have both red cliff movies on bluray already. (by the way, this movie is a "must-have" on anybody's bluray collection. video and audio is reference quality. it is THAT good.)

this was a 2 part movie. (both parts run about 2.5 hours each) the american release is heavily edited and will run about 2.5 hrs. u do the math. u basically miss half of the whole movie..
It's a truely chinese history. When there were three empires fight with each other. This story is about the beginning of that period of time. Two of the empires joint together to fight with the strongest one and them won that battle at Redcliff. This battle is the most famous battle in chinese history.
I HAD been hoping this was an english-speaking movie, but once the trailer started, I was realllly hoping it was actually in the original language and just subtitled. I feel like it would have been a cop-out to just make this in English.

Awesome film. A lot of Chinese history..but...I think you don't need it to truly enjoy the film. Yeah, I stayed up till 6AM finishing the movie...so...def loved it.

psh you dont even have to wait for this to come out in theaters... go to any asian video store right now and buy it. And for those who doesnt know this is the same dynasty warriors (its a game) in movie format this is historical stuff they didnt pull this story out of their ass. actually i think this movie takes place before the game cause liu bei was kinda young.

I love their explanation why they cut the movie, from imdb: "The reason given was that the Asian viewers are more familiar with the characters and their exploits while the western viewers might be confused with the numerous characters and their similar names (therefore keeping it simple for the US market)."
Poor americans won't be able to remember too many names, I'm soooo sorry.

@VinyaBlacha While I agree with the stereotype, keep in mind its a stereotype, and not a truth. There are plenty of Americans who have seen this movie, the full length of it with the subtitles, and enjoyed it.

Plus I think that the woman might have been talking about the content of the film rather than the fact that it´s subtitled...Some people aren´t into martial arts. Her statement is at fault here; I would change her comment to "But is this going to be an action movie that some people won´t understand?" :)

History defines us, at least that ought to be respected, regardless of whether one understand the history or not.

holy shit...took 'em long enough to release the movie in the US...
i have both red cliff movies on bluray already. (by the way, this movie is a "must-have" on anybody's bluray collection. video and audio is reference quality. it is THAT good.)
and also, the US release is shortened for both movies combined into one to cater americans who aren't so familiar with the battle of red cliff.

this was a 2 part movie. (both parts run about 2.5 hours each) the american release is heavily edited and will run about 2.5 hrs. u do the math. u basically miss half of the whole movie..

It's a truely chinese history. When there were three empires fight with each other. This story is about the beginning of that period of time. Two of the empires joint together to fight with the strongest one and them won that battle at Redcliff. This battle is the most famous battle in chinese history.

I HAD been hoping this was an english-speaking movie, but once the trailer started, I was realllly hoping it was actually in the original language and just subtitled. I feel like it would have been a cop-out to just make this in English.
