  • Interesting jig Are there plans? Is there a video on trimming the feathers after they are glued onto the shaft?

  • @jpavlvs Sorry, no plans, we sell the item hand made as part of our online catalogue, just google RICHARD HEAD LONGBOWS and you will find it. We do not have a video of the feather cutting, just use a sharp pair of scissors to carefully cut to shape.

  • Interesting. Do you have plans for making the jig?

  • Btw, any pointers how to make that clamp?

  • Ingenious idea !. Very sharp thinking here. Impressive and simple. Seems simple is always best

  • Howdy all , Do the feathers have to be slightly offset to make the arrow spin

  • @minerman007 Not really, arrows will spin if the feathers are set straight.

  • Nice. If only there was a way to do this and apply helical fletching.

  • Richard- the over-sized wooden fletching jig is the best part of your vid. In particular, the card you set in the nock as a means of indexing the fletching in order to get an even 120 degrees between each one. I appreciate this vid - its helped me work out a few difficulties. Thanks - Well done.

  • That's great, thanks a lot.

  • Interesting video, thanks for posting Richard,

  • where cam i buy this thing where you give the arrows in ??

  • @noliesnowboards From our webshop longbowandarrow . co . uk

  • @RichardHeadLongbows nice jig,but u really dont need that.i just hand fletch.primitive style with birch pitch works great..this is way to technical and unnecessary

  • @5tonyvvvv Thanks.

  • would you be a member of the guild?

  • If you mean the `Craft Guild of Traditional Bowyers and Fletchers` then yes we are.

  • does it matter on what feathers you use???? coz australia is very hard to find a turkey running around lol

  • Great! Very helpful!

  • fletching level?

  • where do you get the fethers

  • We sell them in our webshop, but they originate from USA, the feathers are taken from Turkeys.

  • Turkish feathers?

    8-)

  • Yes, they are a delight.

  • crossbow it is called as i recall

  • Never realised so much work went into one arrow lol

  • lol my pal is a renicasse fletcher/woodworker

and he told me anyone can go to the forest grab a stick and make a bow but only taleted peopel can make a worthy arrow

  • idk have you seen a modern recurve bow being made it looks like its alot of work lol

  • Can someone tell me how to say in english a "gun" that shoot arrows? You know it's just like a pistol and have a bow in front?

    BTW great clip,cheers from Croatia...

  • thinking about a crossbow?

  • CROSSBOW

    pozdrav iz Zagreba

  • bolts.

  • Correct.

  • Zove ti se samostrijel, na eng. Crossbow...

  • How long is your wooden Big Jig, how many inches?

  • about 8"

  • Cheers mate

  • this is a fantastic video, iam going to make one of these jigs myself but i need to know how. Where did you get the clamp for the medevial jig? And if you made it how?

  • this is rexlaing

  • Ok i am asking around a bunch of videos couse i need to know somthing

I shoot a 26-30 pound longbow with a draw length of 28 inches and i want to make my own arrows but when i went to order some from 3riversarchery i was confronted with things like spine, diameter, and other things can someone help me pick the right sized arrow diameter and the right spine so i can make my own thanks to anyone that replys.

  • Hi, it can seem daunting at first, but I am sure the archery company you contacted will help you choose what you need, we always help our customers choose the shafts they need if they are unsure.

  • is it difficult to make arrows yourself if u have never done it before? or is it something that u can learn pretty easily?

  • thanks for this vid, this really rules.

i'm not allowed to buy over the internet, though... (i'm 15, but my mom forbids it...)

i have some scrap wood lying around so i'm probably gonna "try" to make one myself.

  • I Forget to mention that music is also great in this vid, enhaces magic atmosphere of this fantastic craftman workshop

  • Great jig idea. Thanks for sharing.

  • so where did you get the big clamp from?

  • We make them, its a product we make and sell as a complete item.

  • Hey, how much is one arrow? Is it cheaper buying a dozen? Could you say it in Dollars? Thanks -rookie

  • All our prices can bee seen on our website, web address is in the info box top right of your screen. You will have to check on a currency converting website to find out prices in Dollars.

  • very cool.. I have a fletching jig that cost me 80$ and yours seems to work just as well. awesome job

  • Thanks, ours costs £24.99

  • I´m a bowyer and just wish to say Thankyou for sharing this...will be very usefull:I was doing all the proces by hand only.I´d like to know if ancient medieval fletchers did it the same way, is there any surviving ancient tool or archeological clue?

    thankyou?

  • HI, Thanks for the compliments, as far as we know there are no surviving tools or pictures/writings that explain how feathers were put on in the Medieval period, as they were mass produced we can only assume they had some way of non experienced fletchers attaching them? as with most things this is all speculation!

  • Cool video!

  • cant you just leve the feathers big with out cutting them?

  • Hi, indeed you could, it depends what type of arrow you are trying to emulate or what type of shooting (distance) you hope to use the completed arrow for.
