  • sheldon!

  • er... lol? he makes stephen hawking look like a dummy. no offence

  • I did

    (75+25) x 100 = 1000

    - 50

    + (6/3)

Not as impressive, but just as correct.

  • @civilcalc (75+25) x 100 is 10.000, but is just a zero, no real value, so no worries :D

  • @civilcalc Not quite as correct. You are out by a factor of ten. (75+25) times 100 = 10000.

  • @civilcalc You may want to check that...........

  • @civilcalc I'm sorry but, (75+25) x 100 = 10.000

  • He looks like SheldonCooper!

  • I'm sure this has been said before but I have not reas all of the comments. He used the simultaneous equation of (y*75-50)/25 = 3y-2. So once he had 318 it was easy. Still impressive to do it so quick.

  • Not impressed. This is easy.

  • The guy had a calculator in his watch. Or something like that. If you watch it back it makes sense.

  • @TheSirNoobalot - errrrrrrr no - he didnt. He used the simultaneous equation of (y*75-50)/25 = 3y-2. So once he had 318 it was easy. Still impressive to do so quick. Please explain how having a calculator would make this easier?

  • I put it to you that James is a virgin

  • He's asian

  • is that Dr. Sheldon Cooper PhD? BAZINGA!

  • @holdingontowater EXACTLY what i thought!

    Coz my head just exploded...

  • Comment removed

  • Thumbs up if you used your computer calculator to work it out yourself to see if it genuinely was 952

  • It's Sheldon!

  • Bazinga!

  • oh c'mon any asian can do that.

  • British culture in the '90s=American culture in '70s!

  • "i think that's right, congratulations" only if who wants to be a millionaire worked like this

  • 23, 850/25 = 954

    Not 952

    Use your calculators

  • @FarhadMusiK you forgot to subtract 50 :)

  • @FarhadMusiK He subtracted 50 from it to 23800 before the divide. which makes it correct.

  • @FarhadMusiK Why don't you use your eyes and ears pal and watch the video properly

  • IMPOSSIBRU !! oh and btw in yo face laughing biatch :)

  • similar tv show called letters and numbers

  • i don't understand this...he's not asian? ._.

  • whos laughing now biatch???

  • Good, but he didnt remember to carry the 1

  • Same way I got it...

  • Yeh yeh he was right. Yep.

  • Like a Boss

  • COUNTCEPTION

  • 3:55 The girl says ''Oh my god, this guy is fuckin awesome. Wanna bang him hard! ''

  • Ha-ha, he looks like Edward Norton o_o

  • let me introduce you: DOCTOR SHELDON COOPER

  • easy when ur name is sheldon cooper >.>

  • 240p, we met again..

  • @JmFtlCwtf that comment is up there with chuck norris jokes, as in over used and not funny ;-)

  • @TheMagnatar ahahhaahah you're right ;-)

  • he was like

    " piece of cake "

    xD

  • This guy just used the simple fact that 1/25 * (75x - 50) = 3x - 2, and saw that 3*318 - 2 = 952. You just have to compute in your head 18*3 = 3*8 + 30 = 24+30 = 54 which is EASY. Then he lets the TV presenter do the hard maths (because he didn't) and looks like a genius. But what is genius is the fact that he lets us think he is.

  • @citiblocsMaster Its simple after you realize that. If you were given 30 seconds to figure out that sequence, it wouldn't be that straight forward, at least for the general population.

  • He looks like sheldon cooper..

  • WOW!

  • Astonishing brain calculator

  • At least they are not screaming DUBS DUBS DUBS on 4chan

  • This would never fly in the US..

  • THAT'S NUMBERWANG!!

  • @EpistemicEpidemic No it's not. it's WANGERNUMB!

  • mind = blown

  • (A * 75 - 50 ) /25

    = 3A - 2

  • he said 3 X 100, but changed his mind and did that instead incredible, he should be my maths teacher

  • i got 953

  • Let him win the fucking series for that.

  • If you gave me a computer and 5 minutes I'd give the answer 50*(25-6)+3 = 953

  • @AnswerToNumber But, then, my program was broken :(

  • if you gave me 1 year 1 calculator and a aisan boy i STILL couldnt have got that

  • holy man that was sick i was gob smacked. the bitch shoild gave him respect

  • it is right. i checked on ym Rolls Royce calculator

  • knight that man immediately!

  • Why was Carol being so hysterical? Instead of giving him any respect as he gave his working, she made a mockery of what was a piece of true genius.

  • i got 953, fuck

  • I don't get his phrase 'I'm not entirely sure what that makes' in reference to getting 23850, what technique was he using if it meant he wouldn't have to know what his calculations were adding up to? :S

  • @Mangosuxcok thats what i thought at first but what he was thinking of was multiplying 318 by 75/25 (=3) which would give 954 which is 2 away. he knows 50/25 would give the 2 so he multiplies 318 by 75, then takes off the 50, then divides by 25 which is 952. definately the best countdown answer ever.

  • Sheldon? Sheldon Cooper?

  • 100+3 = 103

    75*6 = 450/50 =9

    103*9=927

    927+25=952

  • That laugh from Carol at 2:21 - just classic!

  • INSANE!

  • I actually got this within 15 seconds.. what was so hard about it? 100 x (75+25) = 1000. Minus 50 = 950. 6/3=2. 950+2 = 952.

  • @ghettomama4real 100 x 100= 10000, so you didn't get it

  • @ghettomama4real 100x100 isn't 1000 though :x

  • @ghettomama4real pretending to be smart fail

  • @tommorellorules That skips the -50 step though which is needed in his way of doing it.

  • Instead of doing X75 then /25, they could have just done X(75/25) which is X3

  • Like baker4242 wrote below, If you do the division by 25 on the rest of the formula first, it becomes more obvious:

    ((100+6)*3*75-50)/25 =

    (106*3*3)-2 =

    954-2 = 952

  • (75+25)*3= 300

    100*6= 600

    300+600+50+(6/3) =952

  • @MyPandaboo don't forget you can only use each number once. you used the 3 and 6 twice

  • This guy look like Sheldon from TBBT!

  • hahaha STFU vorders

  • I got 953 in 10 secs (3+6)*100 + 50 + (75/25). I'd have been embarrassed to get 952

  • Yeah. F U Vorderman!

  • Like a boss

  • From 318:

75/25=3 (This is what it's multiplied by overall)

    You're taking off 50 (2/3rds of 75).

    3x 2/3 = 2.

So you end up with 318x3-2.

  • Rain Man is shitting himself.

  • Wow, this is my kind of game show, wish we had that in the US! Of course, it'd probably be canceled due to lack of viewership.

  • hey i found out the other day that the numbers game is now different!

when did it change, i used to watch this about 15-20 years ago & in the numbers game you HAD TO use ALL the numbers,

now i can find no mention that is how it was...

  • That is just absurd.

  • @Indaheezay I agree... I mean, there is a big big gap between 952 and 9520... a big big gap.

  • remember when this happened! Amazing!

  • 950 derp

  • bless him, i cant believe he went all that way

  • now that is how you do the numbers in style! ridiculus way to get the answer

  • richard whitely was a legend

  • thumbs up if you skipped the 30 second timer

  • He came up with that in 30 seconds?! HOW?!

  • This seems odd cause it so sounded like he was working it out as he was saying it to her, breaking the rules because he's suppose to do it in the time limit.

  • Who else got the calculator out on the computer and did it the way he did it? LOL

  • This is actually quite simple. 75 / 25 is 3, so at scale, it's basically (100 + 6) x 3 x 3 - 2

  • @formulacountdown where did you get the 2 from? you only have the 50 left, am i missing something?

  • @NickDude555 At scale, 2 lots of 25 are 50.

  • This is what happens when Sheldon is allowed to appear on Countdown!

  • I think it's important to realise that it's not like he's calculating and manipulating these huge numbers in his head, but just using logic that should make sense to any mathematician. He probably instantly saw that 952 is two away from 3x318, and so in effect all he needs is 3x-2 where x=318. x is obviously made from 100,3 and 6, and all that is left is to appreciate that (3x-2)=(25(3x-2))/25=(75x-50)/25. Still quite an impressive insight in the time given, but not impossibly difficult.

  • Not wishing to detract from the achievement, but I do think this is simpler:

    6 X 75 / 50 = 9

    X (100 + 3) = 927

    + 25 = 952

  • And thus we can see Carol's "Bitch Please" face.

  • WOW

  • This is the 'most logical' solution according to a number solver I ran this through.

In other words, a simpler solution is not possible.

    Extraordinary fellow.

  • what on earth is carol wearing

  • @bluetube231 The 80s my friend, she wears the 80s.

  • However the answer is wrong! His sum = 954!

  • @kwikchik4 Go back to school :p

    100 + 6 = 106

    X 3 = 318

    x75 = 23,850

    / by 25 = 952

  • @jacko900000 you're quite right of course! I didn't catch the minus 50 part ....... doh! Thankyou for being so polite! ;-P

  • @kwikchik4 no it is 952 i did it on calculator

  • UNBELIEVABLE NUMBERS ROUND.NIGHTMARE FOR CAROL VORDERMAN

  • genius... 4 from the top always gives interesting results :S

  • I remember this guy he always did 4 from the top in the numbers game !!!!

  • And now I've watched it all the way through...! That is brilliant!!

  • Can get 953:

    100 x (6+3) = 900

    50 + (75 divided by 25) = 53

    900 + 53 = 953

The key must be to create '2' (for which there are several ways) and get to 950 using a max of four other numbers..........

    My head hurts.

  • This is a lot easier than it looks.

  • at first i just thought he was taking a piss from that poor woman that was doing maths XD

  • 954 I got but still brilliant

  • 1:45 = Classic "WTF" moment from Carol

  • I got 950 -.-

  • I bet the other contestant wanted to kill himself at 3:39

  • i got 950

  • Anyway, now to watch Rachel Riley Sexy Mini Dress...

  • How come the UK and Australia has these puzzle shows and America doesn't? Just goes to show how dumb we are and how much we devalue intelligence.

  • @Gary4500X theys also blockbuster and fifteen to one look them up

  • @Gary4500X We do have puzzle shows. Just goes to show how stupid and ignorant some of us can be.

  • @Gary4500X Cause American networks appear to be purely about profits.

  • @Gary4500X Bahahahaha, Australia doesn't "devalue" intelligence. That's funny, that's hilarious.

  • @Ekulioful It says AMERICA devalues intelligence. Dumbass.

  • @ndileni You lack basic reading comprehension. Respond when you've found out how you just made yourself look like an idiot.

  • @ndileni Also, penis.

  • @ndileni oh great more insults towards america. im english btw but it grates me when people slate americans as if though they are thick

  • @Gary4500X - don't worry, we even it back out to stoopid with stuff like bullseye or deal or no deal...just in case the brain gets tired

  • @Gary4500X but you have family feud?!???

  • @ayrab we used to have family fortunes....we don't feud :)

  • @Gary4500X I think Americia is seen as stupid by the rest of the world because of the Jerry springer show.

  • @Gary4500X even France has a version of countdown

  • Just DO IT Carol!!!! It's not your place to suggest to the contestant what he's going to one or two steps later. If he said "multiply that by 75, then multiply it by 75"!!!

  • @Selinor578 Yeah, but Carol isn't exactly stupid herself, to be honest who could expect that to work out ?

  • The man is a genuis! Can other people stop writing their own solutions to try and show their 'supreme intelligence'. If you think you're that smart, why don't you go on this show?

  • i actually did it on my calculator and hes right. fuck me that was really clever doing it that way

  • Impressive to spot this solution in the time limit, but it's not really as complex as it seems. In effect he's just doing 106 x 3 x (75/25) = 954, which you can work out in your head, and then subtracting the 50 before dividing by 25 to reduce the final outcome by 2.

  • @SentinelProxima

It's the subtracting by 50 that is the incredible bit. It'd be a safe bet to say that given 5 minutes, most people still wouldn't figure it out because it wouldn't occur to them to ever multiply by 75. Many people would get 964 but they'd give up on that because it seems to be a dead end. He obviously has a very mechanical brain to see what most people wouldn't...

  • @mrwho995

First, in effect he's not multiplying by 75 but by 75/25 = 3. Second, realising that subtracting 50 before dividing by 25 has the effect of subtracting 2 is an application of distributive law -- this law is THE most versatile tool for solving Countdown numbers games, and everyone who goes on the show will have the law and what you can do with it firmly ingrained in their heads. Third, it's a fair bet he saw 106 x 3 x 3 = close and then looked around, rather than seeing it all at once.

  • @SentinelProxima

Meh, you make a valid point. Still amazing though.

  • @SentinelProxima thank you for such an informative explanation. My first answer when I see someone pull off an impossible mental calculation like this is....it's all a pre-arranged trick organized by the producers off camera. It's so nice to have a plausible explanation over my all too often conspiracy theory lol

  • @daytonaeggnog it did u sadistic bastard

  • @yamin116

Erm, how on earth is daytonaeggnon correcting you make him a sadist? Do you know what sadism is?

  • it equaled 954 his sum

  • @yamin116 no

  • @yamin116

    No it didn't.

318*75 is 23850. 23850-50 is 23800. 23800/25 is 952. I think you just simplified the 75/25 and multplied by three, forgetting that he took off the 50 so you can't simplify like that.

  • OMFG LOL

  • Why not just do?

    (25+50=100) x 100 gives you 1000

    1000-50 + (6/3) =952

  • @kittykat1501 Recheck your first step there, lovey

  • @doodlemyster I meant to say 75, patroniser

  • @kittykat1501 ok even if you meant to say 25+75=100... it still doesnt make 100x100=1000... because 100x100= 10,000... so sorry, try again.

  • @guilttascharged Sorry my mistake. P.s. You should try some manners some time, might make you more likeable

  • @kittykat1501 All I did was point out your mistake... I could have called you stupid, but I didn't so don't talk to me about manners. P.S. I could care less if you like me or not.

  • @guilttascharged Haha but being patronising made me feel reeeeeeeeally clever didn't it. P.S. Shouldn't it be couldn't you care less?
