  • This was horrible acting.budget had nothing to do with it.

  • I realize the shortcomings of this movie...but u have to realize it was made in the 1980s and obviously not with the budget that could have been gotten if it was made today. But what stands out to me is the acting...the guy who played Paul in the 2000 movie is just far inferior to Kyle mclachlan. I bet if the makers of this movie had the money, they would have spent more time making it truer to the book. While I like the 2000 film for the depth of story, this one is just far more entertaining.

  • The problem with this movie, is half of it is well done and sober like Lynch's Elephant Man. The other half is marred by making the Harkonen's into silly and grotesque comic-book villains surrounded by goofy looking sets and props.

Barron Harkonen should have been made sardonic and sly, vastly intelligent and calculating. A chilling evil like Longshanks in Braveheart or the Star Wars Emperor. And likewise Rabban Harkonnen should have been more like Darth Vader minus face mask. Nero & Caligula

  • My god! It ain't that bad, Jesus.

  • David Lynch's "Dune" differs from the book. That's why many people criticize it but I don't agree. The whole movie was very well done, visual effects were great for that time and the acting was brilliant. Kyle MacLachlan and Francesca Annis were stunning

  • 0:02 My name is David Lynch. Give me 100,000 dollars and wire it to a bank account under the name Alan Smithee or else the hostages get it!

  • Awesome Jack Nance and David Lynch were friends, I didnt know that. Thanks for upload

  • @killerbee2k Haven't you heard of Eraserhead?

  • It was a bad movie, but lynch is still a great directer, producer, etc. sometimes things don't go right, and it sucks when it is on this epic scale.

I still don't understand why Thufir Hawat had to milk a cat for his poison antidote. That was too much. "I have nipples Fokker, can you milk me?!?" haha

  • Frank Herbert even approved of the film, sure, it wasn't as good as the book by any means, David Lynch only hated it because he wanted dumb shits to stop berating him as a director, retards like the guy who commented below me now use it as an excuse and it's pathetic, look up what Frank Herbert said, as he said the movie kept the heart of the film and Lynch is only emotionally compelled saying he hated the film because of the idiots who bashed him in the past, Frank Herbert's opinion counts most

  • the film was awful. Lynch never had the control he needed and later said he hated it.

  • 0:31 hey its Pete Martel from Twin peaks

  • Lynch is too hard on himself. He did what he could with the amount of freedom given to him. Compare Dune to the Star Wars prequels, which of those would you rather see? I think he did an excellent job, and I think only Lynch could make a Dune film. Its not a book that can be turned into a film easily. You have all of dune put into a film. That would be like trying to fit Lord of the Rings into one film. It wouldn't be easy, but Lynch did it.

  • Dune's a decent film. I blame Dino De Laurentis for the way it turned out more than David Lynch. Why? Well you only have to look at Sam Raimi's Army Of Darkness (also originally butchered by Laurentis)....the theatrical cut is awful and disjointed, the Director's cut is magnificent. Let the directors have more control, they know what kind of movies their audience want to see.

  • This movie sucked shit. FUCK YOU DINO DE LAURENTIIS!!!

The book was so much better.

  • i saw it when i was 8 and had no problem with understanding it, i thought it was cool

  • The movie kept the plot but removed all elements of foreshadowing.

  • the worms are the spice, the spice is the worms

  • I love Frank Herbert and David Lynch but you have to draw the line between great artisans or the output will be fowled. Too much of a good thing, just like "My son what have ye done"

  • Dammit, I love David Lynch's nasal tone.

  • The movie was good enough that it made me want to read the books, but the books were so good it made me think the movie was ultimately a failure.

  • 2:26 - 2:50 i can't argue with him there......

  • The movie is fantastic, it's qualities surpass by far it's flaws. The costumes, prop design, sound design, most of the music, the cast, it's all amazing stuff. Would people still be discussing it so much 27 years later if it wasn't so special.

Lynch was the perfect guy to give it a real sense of strange and danger. Plus the modifications to the original text, which he worked out with Herbert himself, made for some great scenes (the sound weapons, the murder of the slave by the baron, etc)

  • @altar7

There is gonna be another Dune movie coming in 2014 as 3 parts similar to Lord of the Rings. This movie is a huge disaster at the box-office and with critics, Lynch disowns this movie and he still hates it for he knew he is not a blockbuster friendly kind of guy. It taught hollywood a good lesson, rule 1: Do not hire David Lynch.

  • I mean i have a love-hate relationship with this movie because i have read the books in 1993 when i was 12 and fell in love with them as they swept my imagination for the longest time as i was always obsessed with Sci-fi. I saw this at 17 and was mixed as i enjoyed Lynch's movies since i was 15 as this was good for a Lynch movie but terrible as a Dune movie when it didn't felt like Frank Herbert's novel but more like Lynch's own movie. I still believe Jorodowsky could have been better.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Jorodowsky made funny freak shows more than actual movies

  • A terrible insult to a great book by a very bad choice of a director who isn't a Sci-fi kind of guy and he made a very bad ego trip of an adaptation than being true to Herbert and i cried when it rained on Arakkis. I'm glad Lynch hates and disowns this mess of a movie and he refuses to talk about it in interviews as he hates it that much. Alejandro Jorodowsky or Ridley Scott had better visions for the book.

  • @Johnlindsey289 i thought it was a great movie but I understand where you are coming from with the Lynch sci-fi comment hes much better in small films did you know he turn down Return of the Jedi?

  • Comment removed

  • @AudioAndroid

And yes yes i know he turned down Jedi but Lynch is a damned good filmmaker but terrible at hollywood blockbusters when he is good as doing indie movies as this was the last time he worked for Hollywood studios.

  • yeah thjis movie is a god damn cult classic and lynch has made some strange but good stuff. i didnt realize this movie was a commercial failure...i guess a lot of cult films are.

  • @DoctorSess

It's a cult classic alright but for the WRONG reasons! it's one of those movies like Showgirls that gets watched over and over for people to laugh at how bad it is.

  • I am a massive LynchHead, hands down favourite director, but i havn't been able to bring myself to watch Dune for some reason.

  • @Tommy1The2Bat3

Avoid it, it's his worst film and he despises it.

  • very flawed film yet I still have watched it many times... something about it still draws me to it

  • i liked lynchs version even everybody hates it, i ask myself: why did they all bought it.

    still today lol

I guess there are haters and true fans and a 3rd version the book only puristics.

    Theres nothing between.

I like the books the lynch version aswell the cast also.

And im lookin also forward to the new upcomming filmproject, if they do a new dune. Would be also awesome.

  • @derblicker

The new movie should have 3 or 4 parts to do the book justice that could improve over this movie and the mini-series although Children of Dune is the only dune movie to get it right and satisfy the fans of the novel like myself. They need to find a great director who has experience in Sci-fi and loves the book, someone like Alfonso Cauron who did the amazing Children of Men. Besides Avatar is already a semi-reworking of Dune by Frank Herbert

  • i think is the worst movie of David Lynch... but is mystic and the same time

  • @mariano26788 i don't know, i think straight history is worst... =/ but it's just my opinion

  • @mariano26788

David Lynch disowned this movie in 1988 and refuses to talk about it for it's a painful memory as it taught him never to go in the hollywood system again, he also would walk out of interviews if this movie is ever mentioned for he knew it stunk and that he isn't a Sci-fi kind of guy. Stick to the book and you'll be happy.

  • It's really sad that people hate this movie. Other people who saw the sci-fi version first say this film is a piece of garbage, but they obviously don't see it for its merits.

  • @kucoru16 people actually hate this movie?

    fucking retards

  • @armageddon9999

Please read the book, it's better than this disgusting parody of an adaptation.

  • Parts of this film shine with utter genius, whilst other parts are at best mediocre, a flawed masterpiece in my eyes.

  • One of the best sci-fi epics ever put on film. Though it's a shame they limited Lynch's artistic control, it could've been something much bigger...

  • A great film by a great director ! F the critics !

  • Interesting. David Lynch's comment here matches what other filmmakers past and present have said about the process, which is that compromise does not work.

  • I have wondered for the last 20+ years what exactly would the film have been like if Lynch DID have the complete control he wanted. I doubt if we'll ever find out. He finds even discussing the film an unpleasant experience, so it's unlikely we'll ever get a "Director's Cut" or anything like that.

I can't help but question though - would we all be so fond of it if we had gotten the full-on Lynch experience with Dune?

  • We're lucky Lynch didn't kill himself after Dune.

  • Dune's great. one of thsoe films that deserves the credit. Too many films like dune would be too much to deal with but somethine like this every now and then spices things up.

  • A film ahead of its time.

  • this is a fantastic movie

  • When I'd first seen the film I hadn't read the books and I was a bit confused by the whole production ... Then I read the story and I gained a greater appreciation and critical eye for the movie. I wish Lynch had full control over the movie. That would have been awesome.

  • Saw this in a theatre when it came out and was amazed and moved at age 15, I had no trouble with the story and it made me read the books. Dune is not for everyone, the common man wants simple fare, but those of us who can think beyond Transformers type explosions can see this films value.

  • @CanadaMan81 I hate these clichéd, self-congratulatory “you don’t get it go watch Michael Bay films” comments. Dune is a mess. So much was cut out that a prologue, voice overs and interior monologues were added to awkwardly fill huge narrative gaps. The fx are hokey, the bland battle scenes consist of people running and things exploding with little sense of time and place. No wonder Lynch disowns it. I'm glad you enjoy Dune, but it says nothing about how smart you are or how good your taste is.

  • @Trademarc1977 correct me if i am wrong, but quite a lot of the book Dune was actually inner monologues?

  • @snakevillefilms Yes, but tons of inner monologues can be found in just about every novel. Books are about telling, films are about showing. To quote Lynch (from the book "Lynch on Lynch"): "It was added on to nail things that they thought people wouldn't understand, It can be a beautiful thing - to hear thinking. It's a nifty thing, but when it's just for information, you smell a rat."

  • @CanadaMan81 mini series Children Of Dune is 1000 better than movie ,and it's not compare to a book :))

  • I can't believe the critics were so hard on this film at the time (not really surprising since critics are to stupid to understand a real artist like Lynch anyway, especially Roger Ebert who is a philistine). I thought the film was amazing when I saw it as a kid, and after I read the books and studied Lynch as an adult, it was even more impressive.

I wish Lynch wouldn't be so hard on himself. This was a film to be proud of. It's not his fault that the public has ADD.

  • watched it in the cinema as a kid and it bloody well stayed with me I know that much

  • I love Dune, I think it's an amaziing film.

  • I agree that the film is timeless, but the worst thing about Dune was the script. A director should edit too.

I thought that the production design and acting was great, but I just hate that script!

  • Is it possible to see the rest of this video/interview with David Lynch?

  • Lynch is a genius and some of that does come through in the movie however the fact that (Dino) De Laurentis was involved you knew it was the kiss of death. Did he actually produce any movies outside of Blue Velvet that were worth remembering? In fact you could say that the best thing about Dune was that it allowed Lyncn to go on and do Blue Velvet. Still, Dune is an amazing surreal work and it is well worth tracking down the 3 hour version.

  • Dino? well...i can name a few : 1.Year of the Dragon 2.Crimes of the Heart 3.U-571 4.The Dead Zone 5.Barbarella 6.Manhunter (The first film about Hannibal Lecter) 7.Evil Dead part 2 8.Army of Darkness 9.Bound and finally Ragtime..anyway David Lynch will always be The King of the Freaks :)
  • None on my list of memorable flicks except Barbarella which I didn't know Dino was involved with. Think about Blue Velvet and its influence on movies and TV and it will still be viewed and studied in 25-50 years time.

  • Yes..just saying that the famous producer had produced also movies that are worth remembering...or at least watching..of course they're not as good as Blue Velvet or Dune

  • @xxnightopsxx sorry,i forgot to add Serpico and Fellini's La Strada..but in Pacino & Sidney Lumet's Serpico he was just the executive producer :P

  • You know a lot more about Dino than I do. I got Ulysses on DVD recently and was surprised to see that Dino produced that as well. The movie was awful compared to the way I remembered it so I suspect that has added to my negativity about him.

  • Right on,That's the spirit of Dino! he's so pompous and always involves in producing movies that never should be done, like Ulysses,Flashgordon...etc.Don't miss the Oscars tonight dude!..promise to be like in the 78 when Star Wars! :)

  • Hehe, I remember the 78 Oscars, watched the whole show just because of Star Wars...

  • @xxnightopsxx i thought you where younger...i'm jealous (true)..the Oscars in the 78!

  • It's one of those "unfilmable" stories which(imho) Lynch did agreat job on considering all of the other input and editing and the notorious DeLaurentis production department. Cudos Mr. Lynch.

  • After watching the "spicedriver" fanedit (183 min.)

it is clear to me, that it is a masterpiece by Lynch,

sadly crippled by those who did the cinema cut.

Also got me the blue ray version, too,

which looks 10 times better than any of the

many DVD versions i bought before.

  • @Hansaplast69

aye the blu-ray kicks ass...the picture is great and the sound is sonically stunning!!!

Can't help but think that if Lynch had done similar as Ridley Scott did with 'Bladerunner' (basically tinkering with the film for the last 20 years or so.. 'cinema cut' and the updated 'directors cut' are totally different) then we'd probably have ourselves a total Sci-Fi masterpiece...but it seems Lynch has had no interest since from when it was made... up to now. (not that I blame him)

  • I think he was burnt so bad by the experience he doesn't want to touch the project and simply wants to do projects now where he has complete control(much like Kubrick) however those projects seem to be few and far between. Probably because he's less bankable than Kubrick and his ideas are more offbeat. Very sad really, since very few artists or filmakers can say they have had the impact that he has with his style of cinema.

  • sbfw, I don't know what b-movies you're comparing Dune to, but I'd like to see them, because they're probably pretty kick-ass, like Dune.

    YOU SUCK!

  • @mnwalke sorry but Dune sucks, that's fact. It also flopped at box office.

  • Do you base all your pop culture judgements on their commercial success? You oughta quit doing that. It's possible to like something that is unpopular...I don't know if you were aware of that.

I shouldn't have added "YOU SUCK" to my last comment. I am sorry, sbfw. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

  • although i loved the book and the video games (1 and 2) i have to say that the movie was terrible.

    very cheesy and b-movie like.

i know it was hindered by technology (or lack thereof) during the times, but stil. i was surprised that lynch had directed it as i expect more from him

  • I read the book long before I saw the movie and thoroughly enjoyed the movie, maybe more so because I had read the book. Sian Phillips, for gods sake and Sting and Francesca Annis. What the hell does anybody want in a movie? I thought it was a fine piece of work and was totally shocked when I found out it was considered a failure. I thought it was on a par with 2001 in its own Dune-quirky way.

  • @dilaton1 mini series Children Of Dune is 1000 better than movie ,and it not compare to a book :))

  • I would really like to see this movie laid out on a DVD, the tv 4 hour version, the other longer version out now, and the theatrical cut, with another disc of deleted scenes. Its all there, just because its not Blade Runner doesn't mean it shouldn't be seen.

  • "He died a thousand deaths." Huh?? What the hell is Jennifer Lynch talking about? It's as if this movie was toxic to David! What the hell? How sensitive can a director be? How about a remake, David? A sequel? Show us your stuff! Stop hiding in the shadows!

  • Where's this from?

Narration by Leonard Nimoy and Jonathan Ross?

  • While inaccurate for the most part, I like the Lynch movie because it feels so alien. It takes you to a different time and place. It's how I imagine people from 8,000 years ago would view us.

  • And now there is talk of a new "Dune" movie...

I truly liked D. Lynch's work on this version plus Herbert himself gave it a "thumbs up". The over 5 hours extended film is very close to the novel. The SciFi edition didn't compare...

  • what i don't get is that he's bitching about final cut, but do you think that's really what he's upset about. I can't see how with all the footage that is out there that this movie could have been cut in any way that would have made this movie better. besides how many times can you try to make every movie like eraserhead. if you ask me he sold out on the elephant man not Dune. at least Dune looks like a david lynch movie. The Elephan Man had no obvious Lynch signature I could see. You?

  • I wonder if you dislike The Straight Story for the same reason. Maybe you should watch Elephant Man again at some point, there's plenty of what people call 'Lynch moments' in there, particularly with the sound and dream sequences. What makes you think he sold out on The Elphant Man? There's a clip on youtube where he thanks Mel Brooks for standing up to the studio and letting him make the film he wanted.

  • You think The Straight Story and The Elephant Man or "Lynch Movies"? Thanks for playing.

  • 'Comment removed by author'

What, I didn't remove my comment. I especially wouldn't remove it because of an obnoxious twat such as Mr. GohModley.

Anyway, of course, you're right they aren't David Lynch movies, he didn't direct them at all. You have the jump on everyone else as to what makes a "Lynch Movie" including David Lynch himself because you're super clever and sign off with things like "Thanks for playing"... plus you don't talk utter bollocks at all.

  • @MintySpunkBubble--Game Over!

  • Comment removed

  • Wtf? Guilt is caused by psychological mechanisms, how the fuck is it a religious theme? People experience guilt cross culturally in every society regardless of religion and other factors. Sorry but you fail on an epic scale, nice use of "dullard" to sound smart though!

  • Right, 'psychological mechanisms' 'epic scales'? You've never heard of Catholic guilt? I had a pointless late night argument, bickerering about the merits of a film called The Elephant Man, please leave the mentions of 'epicness' and 'fail' and the impotent thumbs down to yourself and your teenaged chums. It just seems far more witless and banal than anything I had to offer, especially as I don't think you were aware of the back-and-forth we were having,,, and had since forgotten. Go to sleep.

  • Blame it on Youtube.

  • Comment removed

  • I'll play it by ear, nosey.

  • Sorry

  • Apology accepted.

  • This movie had its moments. I agree with Lynch that it just didnt work overall. Still those moments were triumphs. Still not surprising that Lyncn an artists only sees the bad parts and not the good. Thats how artists are.

  • lavish.

  • the guy in the harvester towards the beginning of the movie is david lynch (:

  • The problem with Dune is almost the same problem with all novel adaptations, you have a compromise between how long is the movie and how this let you translate the story. Dune is far too dense and complex to the common public, with multiple references to matters like yoga, martial arts and neuro-linguistic programming. The movie has its flaws, there was no CGI effects available at the time, and Lynch had not total control of the movie, but many of the critics (and public) are aften too ignorant.

  • to solnegrolunaroja...on the contrary. it's lack of cgi saved this movie. a lack of cgi on ANY movie is not a flaw. it's way overused these days and as inappropriately used as our marine corps. it should be used sparingly. case in point. have you seen the new and "improved" cut of ET? Fuuuuuuuck. Too much CGI also screwed up the recent Star Wars movies. The first three w/out all that shit had a much more realistic even artistic feel.

  • You're totally right. They're abusing cgi nowadays. I'm sure although he would use them far more wisely than any present director. I remember a book released along with the movie, where Lynch comments some effects that was problematic and had to pull them out the movie, I think he wouldn't have any problem with those effects with present technology, of course not used in excess

  • I totally agree! Maybe it had alot more to do with the fact it came from a time when some of the greatest movies EVER made were being made. If you look at the best picture Oscar nominees from the seventies its amazing how many were soooo good. by the way semper fi!!

  • jack nance..top notch original guy who didnt let hollywood get to him

  • i love how, in a making of doc., Lynch is basically saying, "Hey guys, this movie is not that great. the studio fucked with it without my consent and I'm not happy so beware." Great.

  • This movie was total crap, but it was that special kind of crap where you still enjoy it. I think it's one of the cheesiest Sci-Fi movies ever made, but I still own a copy, so it's not all bad.

  • Jack Nance is coooool

  • Damn the critics. I thought the film was fantastic when it came out. I read the book straight afterwards and thought it wasn't a bad representation. It still looks timeless. One of my favourite films of all time.

  • @davebones the problem with the film is that the original cut ended up being around 5 hours long and the studio made him cut it, while turning around and using footage without Lynch's input or permission. Plus the ending sucks. BTW, Jack Nance is a crazy motherfucker.

  • @davebones

I did the same, bought most of the books. Bought it on VHS & DVD & DVD 2 disc set.

Thought children of Dune was good, (2002, 3xDVD) but totally different to the unique style of David Lynch. DUNE is one of the few films I can watch over and over again.

    Great memories from 1984!

  • @davebones I love Dune too. It's got it's issues, but I still think it's awesome.

  • @davebones I watched the movie not too long ago ... and I read the book right afterwords. The book and the movie are equally magnificent. I think David lynch was the only director capable of capturing the essence of the book.

  • What a shame ... a great story, a great director, great actors, a great big budget ... a crappy movie. It just DID NOT WORK.

  • It is still my favorite after 25 years. Lynch brings out the best in the book. It is a powerful mix of emotions and excellent acting. Intense is too small of a word here.

  • David Lynch is the best director

  • Lynch gave you sci-fi fans Captain Picard, thank him. Stewart obviously got the role because of his strong performance in this film.

  • Dune is an incredible undertaking to make into a film. I doubt anyone could take such a complex piece and work it better than Lynch.

  • All that money spent, and David wasn't given a Mac to use Final Cut for editing. :(

  • That comment cracked me up!

  • haha. I forgot about that. thanks for reminding me. Man, I'd like to see Christ Dotson (notdavidlynch) do a parody like that. He just got around to parodying Lynch's daily weather report.

  • err chris dotson. blegh. he's good, but he's certainly not a savior. but perhaps as far as lynch parodies go...he might be.

  • All of the star-systems in the dune universe are actual stars sytems that exist now

Arrakis is the 3rd planet on the Canopious star system(real star)

Too bad we can't get there yet

  • Dune is cursed. no-one can make a movie of it. -that new Star-trek is going to be a disgrace too. It's too bad about the goofy sound weapon and other pointless write-ins that occured with the 1984 script. Lynch perfectly captured the atmosphere, his regulars all acted superbly- especially Sian Phillips as the reverand mother-(an amazing actress)- good luck getting better actors for a remake-

  • I totally agree with you. I am of the opinion that people should ALWAYS watch the Lynch film before reading Dune as really helps set the tone for the book. Of course if one finishes Dune then you never want to wants to watch the Lynch film again....well thats a different matter. ;)

  • The Sci-Fi miniseries wasn't bad.

  • the problem with the sci-fi and lynch versions is that THE FREMEN USE GUNS! WTF?!?! get real.

  • You are right about Dune imo but you were wrong about Star Trek; that movie ROCKED.

  • And how can this be? FOR HE IS THE KWISTAZ HADERACH!!!

  • brilliant director

    shitty movie

  • so what -- one of the greatest scifi movies ever made still

  • yeah dune suxorz quite a bit :x

  • what actor do you think should play Paul in the new movie?

  • Clive Owen as Paul's father the duke

    DiCapprio as Paul Atredies

    It could work!!!

  • Clive Owen maybe, but since when does Dicrappio have olive tone skin or black hair-eyes?

  • There is a great advancement in the art of making movies, maybe you heard of it??

Its called make-up(hair dye, contacts, and face makeup)

They made Robert Downey look like a beliveable black guy, so it should be pretty easy to do up DiCaprio as a freemen.

  • Yea but it looked pretty silly lol. Paul wasn't freemen by birth, but he has olive tone features according to the book like his father. The lady Jessicah is unknowingly of Harkonnen blood, but dark tone features are naturally dominate.

I'm sure you could think of some other cute guy who's matches the part =P. Anyways I'm just being picky for the sake of it. Honistly it could work with anybody I supose. I'm just pointing out what matches the book.

  • Read the Battle of Corrin and you won't feel so sorry for the house atreidies. Vorian over reated just a tad.

  • Ive read the whole Butlerian Jihad series.

I like the way they made Vorian, as a machine trustee and then the millitary leader of the League.

I also liked how his father was a Cymek(Aggememnon)

    Thats pretty twisted.

    Vorian was a bad motherfucker.

I also liked Erasmus as a character in the books.

They need to make a movie!!

  • Those books are not written by Frank and are mostly retarded shit.

  • its spelt fremen... just sos u know

  • Thanks pal.

Saved once again by the youtube grammar police.

  • lol :\

  • It may be a strange and shonky film, but the aesthetic is fucking cool.

  • Apparently David feels the sameway about Dune (1984) as I feel.

  • im loving the salo chair he's sitting in

  • A wish: I hope D. Lynch will one day recognize the greatness of this exceptional movie and be proud of it

  • David lynch is by far one of my favorite directors becuase he just makes really really strange hard to follow movies. However i dont think he was the best one to make Dune...not at all. They needed ridley scott or james cameron. It would even be interesting to see peter jackson do with the dune series with what he did with the lord of the rings series. Ofcourse the hard thing is that Dune now spans 8 books!

  • Peter jackson as a director maybe, and Kevin J Anderson as a screen writer

  • it is the greatest SF novel of all time. notonly untill 1975... but of all time.

  • Say what you like about the movie adaptation but it has more style than the later Sci fi Channel adaptations that made dune look like starwars.

Lynch really brought that Retro futuristic post industrial look to the movie and for me that captures the essence of the Dune universe.

  • Strange, in another interview Jack Nance said, he had no fun by filming Dune and that he later better not remember Lynch about the movie.

  • Ey! Thanks,Zooastur. Great Post! In this video we can see how they shoot the scene of the battle of Paul and Jamis when Paul and Jessica first meet the Freemen. Man, I would really like to see the rest of the material not included in the first cut!

  • You can see the rest of it on the extended version. Its not "excatly" as accurate as in the book though.

  • is there another part to this video?

i wonder why david was chosen as the director for dune. the studio was obviously looking to cash in on the sci-fi epic genre after star wars... why would they think david lynch was the man to oversee a cash-cow blockbuster space movie?

  • It's because the Elephant Man was super successful.

  • well, you can say your arguments, I didn't want to start discussion, with you but You didn't backed up you statements, that all, if you have something to say , always use arguments, thats a rule of discussion, i find the movie mystical enough to carry plot, remember that dune saga is more than 1000 pages, and that movie shouldn't be the copy of the books, it would be boring, so to say, good luck to you
