Hi, i'm glad I found your video as I just received 30lbs of lemons. I just finished stuffing a 1 quart jar according to your recipe. Looks very pretty. At this moment I am making a lemon marmalade as well. I truly believe in waste not want not. However I've always shared my excess. Now I can store and share when I entertain, or as a gift. Thanks for your video. I agree with the other posts. It would be nice to see a recipe using these salted lemons. Sounds so good.
@Mariavasquez48 Next time I roast a chicken using them, I'll video it. Thanks for watching and for leaving such a good comment. Glad you tried preserving lemons.
I'm lazy I mandolin slice citrus, dry it with peel till crisp. We use it in drinks and they work well. I would like to try this though..... Should be interesting.
@vonda811 Sure, but not quite the same method. You'd need to can them. Slice lemon into sterilized jars. Cover with a boiling sugar syrup. Put on lids and rings. Process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes. Remove and let cool, making sure each lid sealed before storing. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I'm so glad you shared this with everyone! I would love for you to post your recipe for roasting a chicken with your salty lemons (as I have almost no experience in this). I'm with my hubby on this one, still salivating from the video. Again, so glad you shared and great video!
See there... you are great at this. I completely fell for the who subliminal mind thing you had working in this video. My mouth was watering and puckered tight all the way through. Now that's effective video production and I don't even like lemons. Okay I think I'm going to go watch an annoying orange video now so that my other senses can be a_Salted. :)
I wasn't too sure about using salt for the lemons, because my dh mostly uses lemons as juice, but I have to admit it sounds like a wonderful idea for chicken.
I know how to can fairly well, but really never gave much thought to canning the lemons. Excellent idea. This is what I really love about the you tube group I've found. Ya all given me some FANTASTIC ideas, the down side is now I have so much more work to do.
@brendahere Me too! My youtube friends keep giving me great ideas to try. imstillworkin cans citrus...I've got to try it. Bearlysceneranch cans lemon curd...I've got to do it. (She's also got me all crazy about wanting to make soap.) Ironhead41 taught me how to double my okra yield...now I want to grow even more. Goathollow encourages me to try another variety of tomato...so I do. I could go on. Just count yourself blessed to be associated with such knowledgeable folk. That's what I do.
I have a big bag of lemons sitting on my counter just waiting to be made into this lovely concoction. What a great way to preserve! The salt will keep them almost forever. I am so glad you did this one. I was surprised to see this, cause you didn't mention you had done another one! Talk to you soon. Noreen : ))
Great video! I've never heard of salting lemons. You aren't kidding about how much time it takes to make a video. It's good to see someone put one of mine to use.
@imstillworkin Are you kidding me?! I'm your biggest fan. I do EVERYTHING you say!!! lol Yeah on the making videos thing...if it's a demonstration, (like most of yours are), there is so much forethought on getting everything together, carefully thinking out the sequence of things, making sure there are no distractions in the camera shot, and then hoping your tongue works! I can't believe how many time I fumble for words...in real life I'm fairly literate. lol Please, keep making videos.
@katzcradul You do a better job of the videos than I do. Whenever I try to explain what I'm doing while I'm doing it, I start out explaining the process but get so caught up in what I'm doing that I end up going silent. I found it's easiest to just keep my mouth shut, try to film whatever I'm doing then I edit the video and narrate it with a microphone on my computer. Even at that I fumble for words too.
@jwlrymkr Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm really a prepper, not a video maker. Because prepping, especially in this environment, is so crucial, I don't have much time to spend, learning how to make videos. I'm trying to post videos that my Youtube friends have asked to see. I hope they help someone.
Great googly moogly, thats a lot of salt...lol. I may have to give this a try as I skin my chickens when I butcher them and this would help preserve moisture in the meat.
Thanks for the information I've never seen anybody do a video on this topic. I was wondering what you used it for since it has so much salt in it, I never thought of using it for cooking. Sounds like a great idea. thanks again for the video Shawn
@missouriprepper Salt has been used to preserve food your centuries. We can do what people have always done, which is to remove some of the salt by rinsing, soaking in water, cooking in water, or in the case of these lemons, just adjusting down the salt in your recipe. I use mine directly from the jar. I simply use less salt when seasoning my meat. The lemons have yielded up a bit of their juice, so the liquid you're seeing in the jar is salt and lemon juice. Thanks for commenting.

Question--do the lemons require refrigeration after theyve been salted? Or once salted, are they shelf stable?
AnnBearForFreedom 8 months ago
@AnnBearForFreedom Yes, in the description box, I noted that they have to be refrigerated. Give them a try. They're really good.

I had never done this before but I tried it the other day after watching your video. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing this info. I was wondering if it would be okay to substitute the salt using sugar?
