Jeans with a blazer and button down (or regular shirt) is okay

Jeans with a blazer/vest with a button down AND tie isn't okay, it makes it look like you don't care enough to wear slacks

In reality a blazer would be more appropriate with jeans, however for some people the additional expense may not be welcomed. A suit jacket should work just fine but make sure it is plain navy blue.

"simon" whoever he is, seems to me to be a menswear amateur. The denim he's wearing doesn't suit the rest of his clothing. It may have worked with just the waistcoat, but the jacket makes it fail, wear trousers man. He even goes for the undone bottom vest button, an old royal fashion fad rather than a real style rule. Tedious.
