Another one of those stereo types I wish people would get off of is the illusion that every female who plays video games is fat and ugly. There are plenty of females who don't fit into that stereo type at all. It's actually quite an ignorant thing to say, or even think, while in a lobby. But, then again, I guess it's one of those things where you really show how old you are. Due to where your mentality is at.

My only definition for "girl gamer" is a girl who plays games and enjoys doing so for the sake of playing. Simple. Their skill level doesn't matter, nor does their personality, so long as they enjoy the games they play. Thus, I just view everybody as a gamer, rather than a girl gamer, Jewish gamer, Episcopalian gamer, or whatever.
I've actually ended up both trashing and defending girls for being complete douche bags and for getting harassed respectively. Both are just annoying as hell. About 95% of the girls I actually consider friends are gamers, so I'm used to playing with girls nonetheless.

My gf used to just watch me play blk ops. Now she loves it now I got her head around using the controller and just generally enjoying the game. She's almost at my skill level and we now feed off each-other for tips and tricks. It's awesome having a laugh while gaming. For me to say a girl gamer, I think that I'm just a girl gamer. It's fun to see guys that comment before a game against my clan say "oh they're chicks we got to win." Guys talk smack when we play. If someone shit talks to me I'll play against them 1v1 to see if they can walk the walk as they've talk the talk. So in the end girl gamer to me means "I'm a gamer who so happens to be a girl, I'm just as tough to beat as the boys." Simple as that.

I made the mistake of putting girl in my psn name bc i had never played online before cod mw2, and i never wear my mic because since I can play half way decent I am harassed somehow either it be im accused of somehow cheating or guys trying to figure out where im from or what i look like! so now i just ignore my messages and never talk to anyone except my friends...

I just bought a ps3, and I'm just trying to get better at shooters I love them. But I can't really play online because I get killed really quickly. I'm straight from n64, and sega genesis. So I just learned how to even walk and shoot without always looking at the ceiling or ground. Any tips?
@sweetmagnolea Thanks :) And well if you're new to shooters, there's a combat training mode featured in Black Ops that you can practice your shot. That's the best way to get adjusted. Also, I'd suggest using a gun like the FAMAS, Commando, Enfield, etc that is an automatic. Get adjusted to hip fire and aiming down sights I believe a bit faster. Good luck!

In response to your video, I concur. I'm a casual gamer, and I'm good at FPSs. I never trash talk. I instead let my game play do the talking. However, I'm interested though in your take on "alpha-female gamers." You know, the females who come into the lobby and immediately call out another female, for the mere fact that they are-- you guessed it-- female. @IIIjennIII Thanks for the idea! I think I'll cover that probably the Monday after Valentine's. It's a really weird case with Alpha-female gamers... Although I find them usually from the competitive scene, I'll still find the aggressiveness happen with a lot of my casual-FPS girlfriends.
The Alpha-female gamers talk trash for different reasons than the Casual FPS girl-gamers. The former is because they are naturally competitive and agressive. The later, do it for more social reasons and because the common denominator of the FPS genre is inherently aggressive/completive/violent. This causes them to react (i.e. just basic drama regarding acceptance). It's not, at its core, a "be-nice" game.
...throw in alpha-males and casual FPS males, then it just makes the whole dynamic that much more complex. Especially if the FPS is an extension of power, strength, war, fighting, etc...
FPS actually gives the girl an competitive edge (levels the playing field) on a representation of war that was normally reserved for males. If you take away something that some guys are good at, then what else does he have to brag about? Thus, the trash talk (virtually) will commence.
Here in Japan we do not have that problem so much. Usually the "girl gamers" Do not act like such and just talk about the game. I for one like to play with both American and Japanese gamers. Although i do not talk on my mic due to my english being terrible. I can understand what you are saying and i do think it is very idiotic for women/girls in general to do that.
@InfaMissGoddess I normally speak in relation to the American players and competitors, so it's enlightening to hear from someone from another area. I wish we didn't have this problem so prevalent in 'gaming society' right now - I guess the phrase is "you got it good" lol.

ladyxinsanity, it's kinda sad that more of the chicks on XBL don't have the mentality that you do. I've seen two types of girl gamers: (a) the ones that are the typical "I'm a girl and I play games... blah... blah... oh yeah, I'm awesome...blah..." (they usually get their asses handed to them), (b) the ones that are actually quiet and reserved (or downplay their skills). These girls are the ones I respect due to their outlook: "I'm a chick, I play games, so who cares? I'm here to have fun"
I agree 100%. I have had quite a few experiences with girl clans, teams, & communities. Some of which were very negative & some were positive. I run an all girl gaming group/community but it's not glorifying the fact were girls. It's all about gaming, having fun, being competitive & making new friends. It should be "I'm a gamer, that happens to be a girl".

@fallenangelx5433 I can respect where you're coming from. My worry comes from the fact that this trend extends beyond the mute button, beyond online gaming. It's come into place not only at gaming events but at tournaments as well (both the presence of what I call the classic "grrrl gamer" and the hostile reception of females within gaming events because of the former). Girls get such a bad rep for gaming... I dont think you should be allowed to call yourself a gamer until you kick ass & get your ass kicked gracefully.... Im a female & i like to game but Im not an attention whore I just like killing people for fun LOL. Anyone who exploits the whole girl gamer bit is a whore. They have scores under 3000, they only ever play shooters in multiplayer or shit like Uno and they have internet profiles with suggestive pictures up. My only definition for "girl gamer" is a girl who plays games and enjoys doing so for the sake of playing. Simple. Their skill level doesn't matter, nor does their personality, so long as they enjoy the games they play. Thus, I just view everybody as a gamer, rather than a girl gamer, Jewish gamer, Episcopalian gamer, or whatever.

i TOTALLY agree. when i play games (mainly Cod +others) ya sometimes i go on my mic, and stuff and i do hate it when guys hear me and are all "omg a girl get in the kitchen" etc. I think the best time was when a guy said "dude i think theres somethgin wrong with your mic,you sound like a chick"... my easily stated response obviously was none other than "becuase i am a girl?" but anyways. It pisses me off repeatedly when guys treat me like shit online when I havent done shit, havent even said shit because I usually keep myself muted in lobby especially when I'm alone but they will still talk trash to me. But when you said think about what the other girls could have been doing or saying before you, I never thought of it that way. I know it's not always true because a lot of these guys are just asses but there are a lot of attn whores on here as well fucking it up for us <3

She's almost at my skill level and we now feed off each-other for tips and tricks. It's awesome having a laugh while gaming. For me to say a girl gamer, I think that I'm just a girl gamer. It's fun to see guys that comment before a game against my clan say "oh they're chicks we got to win." Guys talk smack when we play. If someone shit talks to me I'll play against them 1v1 to see if they can walk the walk as they've talk the talk. So in the end girl gamer to me means "I'm a gamer who so happens to be a girl, I'm just as tough to beat as the boys." Simple as that.

I just bought a ps3, and I'm just trying to get better at shooters I love them. But I can't really play online because I get killed really quickly. I'm straight from n64, and sega genesis. So I just learned how to even walk and shoot without always looking at the ceiling or ground. Any tips?

@sweetmagnolea Thanks :) And well if you're new to shooters, there's a combat training mode featured in Black Ops that you can practice your shot. That's the best way to get adjusted. Also, I'd suggest using a gun like the FAMAS, Commando, Enfield, etc that is an automatic. Get adjusted to hip fire and aiming down sights I believe a bit faster. Good luck!

Been playing COD since W@W, Couldnt run through doors cause i kept looking up. Got add 4m watchin my bf ply. He got sic of sharing so got my very own ps3. We luv playing together! In response to your video, I concur. I'm a casual gamer, and I'm good at FPSs. I never trash talk. I instead let my game play do the talking. However, I'm interested though in your take on "alpha-female gamers." You know, the females who come into the lobby and immediately call out another female, for the mere fact that they are-- you guessed it-- female. The Alpha-female gamers talk trash for different reasons than the Casual FPS girl-gamers. The former is because they are naturally competitive and agressive. The later, do it for more social reasons and because the common denominator of the FPS genre is inherently aggressive/completive/violent. This causes them to react (i.e. just basic drama regarding acceptance). It's not, at its core, a "be-nice" game.

...throw in alpha-males and casual FPS males, then it just makes the whole dynamic that much more complex. Especially if the FPS is an extension of power, strength, war, fighting, etc...
FPS actually gives the girl an competitive edge (levels the playing field) on a representation of war that was normally reserved for males. If you take away something that some guys are good at, then what else does he have to brag about? Thus, the trash talk (virtually) will commence.

Here in Japan we do not have that problem so much. Usually the "girl gamers" Do not act like such and just talk about the game. I for one like to play with both American and Japanese gamers. Although i do not talk on my mic due to my english being terrible. I can understand what you are saying and i do think it is very idiotic for women/girls in general to do that.

ladyxinsanity, it's kinda sad that more of the chicks on XBL don't have the mentality that you do. I've seen two types of girl gamers: (a) the ones that are the typical "I'm a girl and I play games... blah... blah... oh yeah, I'm awesome...blah..." (they usually get their asses handed to them), (b) the ones that are actually quiet and reserved (or downplay their skills). to me there is no such thing as "girl gamer". i only see gamers. alot of my friends are hardcore female gamers and i call them simply gamers, i hate when girls try to use their sex as an attention tool, if a chick wants to get my attention during a game do it with her skill, its much easier and less annoying

Think about all angles of the situation, where do you think the word "girl gamer" originated? I admit, it's a stupid term to grant upon ladies that play. The time I got called a "girl gamer" was from a boy. I'm not saying they started the term either.
