As of now if you have a super computer FSX is better,but if you can run FS9 then you will be happy with X-Plane.i look forward to X-plane V-10 as i think X-Plane will be a force to be recon with.i have both sims but tend to fly FSX more may be that may change after X-Plane 10 is released.

i am new to x-plane 9, i have always used fsx, however i really like this sim. i do have one question, is there a readme file on how to use the autopilot, and gps radios?
To be Honest both are good....things like PMDG and other products is what really makes them great and REALISTIC...SUCH as REX and more. So there isn't one is better than the other.
@almostdead14 FSX has/had payware companies making them realistic addons so no one wud have to deal with the crappy default planes made by microsoft, x-plane has free crappy planes available on the website, no competition between the two, not even close.
Details of the plane are really nice. But there is way too many quick movements of the 'camera'. Slow down and learn to pan smoothly so more details can be seen. Also nothing wrong with good quality engine sounds rather than music.
@BroncoII93 Strictly speaking, X-Plane isn't approved by the FAA either unless you get a Level 2 USB dongle to go with it, which unlocks certain functions such as frame rate controls which are required for FAA certification.
The only flying schools I know of are based in Australia, which probably won't help you much.

If you need a stronger computer/components that means FSX can deliver better quality graphics, FS2004 is obviously older than FSX. Which is why you do not need a powerful graphics card.
People will defend the Simulator [X-Plane or FSX] because it's the one that they use and like... So if someone likes FSX, they will of course defend it's title, or even X-Plane, they will defend it's title... But I would prefer FSX... :D

I just didn't like X-Plane vs. FSX, it was like a night and day difference. The options were getting confusing and the controls were out of whack from the beginning. FSX FTW!

Right let me clarify about the quick head movements to put a stop to the negative comments . Firstly while the video was recording i was moving the mouse normally ( head movements ) , but on playback the head movements appear quicker. And Caesar czeck, my video is not doing to bad with over 6000 views and 28 rating. Its expected to ahve a few who are negative. You obviously enjoy X plane though which is the main thing.

to be honest...i have fsx and xplane9....so junnie001...fsx basically looks like that...and u cant seriously be comparing either fsx or xplane 9 to the real world...i am 16 and have my pilots license...i was flying before even driving...and the earth doesnt look like that...too much color..and visibilty is too much. and im srry but the water in fsx is much better than on xplane 9...compared to real life anyways. what i give xplane though is that its more realistic especially on physics in game.
the scenery is not as realistic in this as it is in FSX or FS9. For example...if you fly over los angeles, you will notice certain stadiums where none exist! I did install scenery for downtown LA, but you still can't compare it to FSX. If you don't care about that stuff though, this is a great program! I would definitely recomend anyone that is thinking of buying it to do so. It runs much smoother than FSX.

I am thinking about purchasing X-plane 9 , I do own FSX and I like it a lot . I have a really nice computer except for my processor isn't the best . But it runs FSX pretty decent. I have seen X-plane 9 on highest setting and it looks pretty decent. So I am thinking of buying X-plane for more of a realistic higher frame rate experience , would you recommend this?
@braaivleis2003 x-plane sure does run nice, but I have noticed that it always seems kind of hazy and foggy. Maybe I am not using the right settings, but that's the way it appears to me. Also, it seems to be a little more complicated than FSX. Once again, that may be due my inexperience with it, but I just can't figure out some of its controls. Lastly, I've noticed that the scenery, although it's nice, is not true to life. Fly around Los Angeles and you will see stadiums where none exist.
@mpalm887 I own both and I have to say, X-plane 9 has much smoother operation and is less resource hungry. It can also display some amazing graphics they really did a great job on the terrain generation. The only odd thing is how jittery the physics engine is in the Cessna 172. FSX has a smooth system of physics but is extremly resource hungry and my computer had trouble keeping up with the necessary graphics to fly adequate visual flight. Plus, Microsoft is discontinuing Flight simulator

wow, whoever was moving the camera around was like a caffeine rush jumping all over the place. I am having trouble deciding between FSX and X-Plane 9 and I have both.

i never saw a fsx video look dis realistic...all that i see on fsx is highly detailed water that makes it look faker an some more stuff...but compare a real vid to this and the earth looks almost alike!!

to be honest...i have fsx and xplane9....so junnie001...fsx basically looks like that...and u cant seriously be comparing either fsx or xplane 9 to the real world...i am 16 and have my pilots license...i was flying before even driving...and the earth doesnt look like that...too much color..and visibilty is too much. and im srry but the water in fsx is much better than on xplane 9...compared to real life anyways. what i give xplane though is that its more realistic especially on physics in game.

the scenery is not as realistic in this as it is in FSX or FS9. For example...if you fly over los angeles, you will notice certain stadiums where none exist! I did install scenery for downtown LA, but you still can't compare it to FSX. If you don't care about that stuff though, this is a great program! I would definitely recomend anyone that is thinking of buying it to do so. It runs much smoother than FSX.

@braaivleis2003 Hmm so you recorded a video first, then you watched it as playback and at the playback record with fraps or anything? thats how most ppl do their FSX Videos. so i did mine :) and it looks like Track IR if u make very smooth movements hehe

i have both but prefer x plane 9, on my system i can really whack up the settings , i have no lag what so ever, try high settings on fsx, if youre pc is not up to it, you wont enjoy it imho, X plane 9 to me is more realistic, you might think differently.

I am thinking about purchasing X-plane 9 , I do own FSX and I like it a lot . I have a really nice computer except for my processor isn't the best . But it runs FSX pretty decent. I have seen X-plane 9 on highest setting and it looks pretty decent. So I am thinking of buying X-plane for more of a realistic higher frame rate experience , would you recommend this?

@braaivleis2003 x-plane sure does run nice, but I have noticed that it always seems kind of hazy and foggy. Maybe I am not using the right settings, but that's the way it appears to me. Also, it seems to be a little more complicated than FSX. Once again, that may be due my inexperience with it, but I just can't figure out some of its controls. Lastly, I've noticed that the scenery, although it's nice, is not true to life. Fly around Los Angeles and you will see stadiums where none exist.

I have FSX but it slows down your PC by a long shot so i prefer X-Plane 9.

@mpalm887 I own both and I have to say, X-plane 9 has much smoother operation and is less resource hungry. It can also display some amazing graphics they really did a great job on the terrain generation. The only odd thing is how jittery the physics engine is in the Cessna 172. FSX has a smooth system of physics but is extremly resource hungry and my computer had trouble keeping up with the necessary graphics to fly adequate visual flight. Plus, Microsoft is discontinuing Flight simulator

@the1bigace fortunatly Microsoft will bring out a next Flight Simulator! Yes, they fired the Aces team, but they recently stated that they will bring out a next Flight Sim 2012. The same time Aerosoft will finish their Flight Sim, so I prob. wont buy another Microsoft Sim...

@mpalm887 why you dont start whit fs9 fsx is too heavy for the most systems but independ what you like are you more realistic specs or more grphic geek i am more grhapic geek and i dont want spend to much money for high end system mysystem whit fs9 rex etc runs smooth and have great grhapics and really good addons !!
