Capt. Lou was one of the few celecrities I've met. I was working at a restaurant and my manager came back and said "Capt. Lou Albano is at the bar." So I go out to the bar, and he proceeds to look up at the TV and says "I bet it's been a while since you've seen me on there". He then proceeded to tell me about the movie "Man in the Moon" before it came out. He signed 8x10 photos for everyone, and was a really cool guy. God bless and R.I.P.
It's funny that as Italian as he was (due to his more famous, colorful rock n wrestling look), you wouldn't think of him as a Mafia-type wrestler a half of The Sicilians. Anyone know if he's related to the guys that run Albano Bros., an oil delivery company out in Mt. Vernon, NY? My gf whose from the same town as Lou (Carmel, NY) said he was a perv, who installed cameras in the ladies toilets at some business he owned???
@peterp21 Re: my perv comment, I never heard anything to confirm that accusation, but my gf is no wrestling fan and brought that up out of the blue (i.e., Lou was no household name to her), so I'm guessing it was at least the local gossip.
when i was 7 years old i always witch The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! 3:00pm after school & on Fridays The Legend Of Zelda those where the great days in the 80's
RIP Cap't Lou---you were exactly what wrestling is, an entertainer. You were funny, made us mad, made us laugh, you were just the perfect manager and I'll remember all those great times at the Mid Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie-once a mainstay for the WWF[E] back in the day. I remember meeting him before the event, such a nice friendly man, just too great
Yeah. I was just reminiscing over his appearance on the Morton Downey Jr. show in 1988 when he was in his 50s. Big difference in life and age, as we all can see lol.
You know what's funny? Captain Lou was Super Mario and Morton Koopa, Jr. from Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Safari, Mario is Missing, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii was named after Morton Downey, Jr.
He wasn't the first wrestler in movies though. Prof. Tanaka was in one of the James Bond movies from the early 70's, forget the name, and I'm sure there have been others.
I really miss Captain Lou. When I think of Captain Lou growing up as a kid watching wrestling, I remember a time when wrestling had class. I'll always remember his trademark rubber bands and his open shirt.
Several years ago, I ran into Lou Albano on Madison Ave, in NYC; he was the same Capt Lou as I watched on tv for years. He shook my hand and said "How are you brother" RIP Captain.
Oh boy does he bring back some good memories I remember him from the late 70""s when wrestling wasnt half as popular as it is now,..then he did the Cyndi Lauper video ! ! I must have seen it like 3 times before I actually said "Hey thats Capt. Lou ! ! what a trip,! ! May God Rest his soul in that big ring up in the sky...
United States Tag Team Champion, managed Ivan Koloff to the WWE Championship, managed over a dozen (15) teams to the World Tag Team Championship. RIP Captain Lou.
I think it was deplorable the way the man giving the interview slapped Mr Albano when he didn't respond quick enough....30 years ago Mr. Albano would have probably used an entire 8 piece bucket of fried chicken and utlized each respective piece as its own weapon-for example a thigh would be used to scrape the announcers flesh off while a breast would be used to tear out his nostrils and a leg could be used to ram down his throat till the punks face turns purple.
@damieandark I agree me and my mom we used to watch him wrestle but like you said he left an imprint he will always be Super Mario!!! Started to honor him has Mario by watching the Super Mario Bros Super Show! every year I wanted to get my DVD Singed by Him =( but never had the chance I remember reading that the SMBSS was gonna be released but I never stood on top of it to find out what day i'm so pissed becuz on the DVD theres other people getting there dvd Singed I went to pay respect
It is great seeing Captain Lou Albano, I grew up watching him. I remember most of the tag teams that he had managed. It is too bad the Grand Wizard is dead and "Classy" Freddie Blassie, At least the Captain is still with us.
@vgjr300 I had No idea he had anything to do with super Mario. So all those games for all these years is money in his pocket? He must be worth a Billion!

Albano ran from the arena after that. My father called in the police and demanded he be placed under arrest for hitting a child. They went to grab him but was told he jumped into his car and took off. My dad did hire an attorney to sue the promoter and Albano but I begged him tod rop the case because I was still a fan of wrestling and didn't want to cause any trouble. I just lost all respect for Albano. Again, I am sorry for lashing out at you.
I will never forget the ass because he punched me in the face when I was a boy asking him to sign my picture of him. I forgave him in years, but I never forgot what the nut was capable of.
