This was one of the most HUMILIATING defeats for anyone in the history of warfare. Hands down. The Iraqi military was (at the time) the third largest military in the world. My father faught at Khafji as a stinger missle gunner with the 2nd Light Armored Infantry of the 2nd Marine Division. He was wounded when an Iraqi mortar hit his humvee.

I was 3rd LAI and I don't remember many saudi forces in that battle. After the Marines cleared the town the Saudis moved in. Same thing in Kuwait city. We captured the airport and the city. Then we were told to fall back and the Saudis came rolling in. As a matter of fact we were told to remove our flag from the airport as not to offend the Saudis. If the Saudis liberated Kuwait they would have been waving Saudi flags. Need I say more. The Saudi army was a dog and pony show.

I'm not sure if you are being serious or not but it was in no way a Saudi victory. We made it seem that way because they needed the morale boost. The absolute majority of Iraqis killed were killed by Marines and Airforce fighter/bombers. In fact Marines inbedded with the Saudi National Guard were disgusted at how awfully they were trained and how they reacted under fire.

The truth about Kafji was that it was a battle of errors. The Iraqi's couldn't get all their divisions rolling and so one of the divisions in the attack was a day late. Also, the US Air Force was unresponsive and missed the chance to destroy two Iraqi divisions in the open. The battle was won by a very small unit of Marines and Marine tactical air...
I was a soldier myself, but I have to say that the Marines and Kafji were extraordinary. They held their ground, kept their heads, and managed the battle. Small unit tactics dont get much better than what those guys did.
No. This is the only real battle of desert storm while the army fought five other battles. Funny thing is there was a army armor division with the Marines in this battle because the Marines lacked armor.

Iraq had a really strong army, but unfortunately it was used for the wrong cause, They were fighting against 33 nations, iraqi soldiers are known for their bravery, thats why as soon as Iraq entered saudi arabia all the saudi forces withdrew and called on the americans to intervene, otherwise the whole arabian peninsula would have been controlled by Iraq. but again i dont support the war at all, im iraqi myself, but hopefully we get a strong army once again, and we will :).

A British Army Medical unit which took a wrong turn on its way upto its battle location ended up in Khafji days before this battle. Just shows what happens when you give an Officer a map. We had been targeted for 10 miles aparently before we were stoped at the border post.

I was 3rd LAI and I don't remember many saudi forces in that battle. After the Marines cleared the town the Saudis moved in. Same thing in Kuwait city. We captured the airport and the city. Then we were told to fall back and the Saudis came rolling in. As a matter of fact we were told to remove our flag from the airport as not to offend the Saudis. If the Saudis liberated Kuwait they would have been waving Saudi flags. Need I say more. The Saudi army was a dog and pony show.

I'm not sure if you are being serious or not but it was in no way a Saudi victory. We made it seem that way because they needed the morale boost. The absolute majority of Iraqis killed were killed by Marines and Airforce fighter/bombers. In fact Marines inbedded with the Saudi National Guard were disgusted at how awfully they were trained and how they reacted under fire.

The truth about Kafji was that it was a battle of errors. The Iraqi's couldn't get all their divisions rolling and so one of the divisions in the attack was a day late. Also, the US Air Force was unresponsive and missed the chance to destroy two Iraqi divisions in the open. The battle was won by a very small unit of Marines and Marine tactical air...

I was a soldier myself, but I have to say that the Marines and Kafji were extraordinary. They held their ground, kept their heads, and managed the battle. Small unit tactics dont get much better than what those guys did.
