This is actually the original version Kate intended for a Christmas 1979 single, but Christmas snuck up too quickly it seemed, so the song was held over for the 1980 Christmas season, but was later re-recorded with lots of layers of sound. The single failed as no one was in a holiday mood with John Lennon's death in all the headlines.

This 'bongos' version was the actual version intended for release as a Christmas single in 1979, but Christmas approached too quickly and they held off releasing it until 1980, where it was re-recorded and given a proper treatment with heavy layering and a lush chours. Only problem is it failed to make an impact in the December 1980 charts as the country and the rest of the world were mourning the death of a Beatle.

This is a better version than the single , which I think is a bit over-produced. BUT HAVE YOU LISTENED TO "CANDLELIGHTS" - it is yet another version (live) superimposed on some old B&W movie. It's here on You Tube. It is stripped right back almost to just piano and vocals and is now my favourite version of "Decemeber Will Be Magic Again". And it IS magic. Give it a listen.

Wonderfull, playfull, the imagination of a child within a beautiful and intelligent, very feminin and powerful woman. Turns the song and her performance into a brilliant, short piece of art. She released "Aerial", a double album, in 2005 after an absence of 12 years after "The Red Shoes". She's a very private person and doesn't appear to have any interest in fame for it's own sake. She releases her music, does the bare minimum necessary to promote it (radio and print interviews, but NO television) then disappears again. She's been described as the Garbo of pop music, but she's nearer to being Brigadoon.
