I'm thinking that it is a result of licensing issues. Apple probably doesn't want their OS to be the centerpiece in any film project.

Some movies use some kind of WTF made up OS while some just slap Windows on there.

Mac OS was shown in ID4. Apple probably got a million people that expected to be able to write viruses that could infect totally alien systems over wifi. Apple is very paranoid about how its software is portrayed.

Well if you look @ 1:54, you will see that mouse pointer is black like OSX's and Windows is white. So that could be an indication that they're using OSX but hid the Dock and added third party software to try not to advertise Apple. Just a thought.

I've seen few of the commercials that has Macbook that covers up the logo. And mac computers using windows OS. I'm having a hunch that they don't want to get sued for using their product and/or avoiding it because they didn't have a permission to show it. I don't know, i'm just making a hunch.

I think when you don't see logos or real logos of a name brand product, it is because they are just props and probably not even working computers. I think they use software that looks good and don't care who made them. And the obvious response form Mac fans are going to be that Macs can run Windows. But realistically, almost no government agency uses Mac computers. They are not compatible with the infrastructure already in place. Also Mac are too expensive.

Wow, I never noticed this :D Maybe they are in some sort fo secret deal with shared profits, that way, no matter which one we choose, they still get money. But I'm pretty sure that kind of dealing is illegal in most countries due to antitrust laws.

Dexter uses Mac Osx, not even a serial killer in a tv show would use Windows. Maybe they have to pay royalties for both the os and the computer idk because I am pretty sure apple gives them a huge discount for putting them in movies.

@oOADROo well they certainly work together on many things bu thisit is interesting as hell though, frankly i always wondered why so many apples were in movies, the royalties and such, i think it has to do with director / editing on quite frankly, what looks cooler for the scene & UI is important. There are many artists that invent their own such as in the island or deja vu but perhaps they like that dark blue tint, i think it looks cool too & OSX sucks at customization... cont...

@mrbit10 i do not know if certain time on movie that a brand is present is equal to X % of dollars but again it comes to editing, on the first, they were going for the face & at full screen, i cannot recognize the software but get the idea of the shot showing segal full on. using quicktime may have lead to more dollars for name recognition, i have no idea though. the UI honestly looked like something made in Linux on citizen, it is the classic blue tint with gov.. cont..

@mrbit10 can you imagine that ugly grey color with the nice blue tint on that shot, nah... windows lent itself better customization to match a darker more classic Hollywood blue tint theme for UI, the windows logo is clearly out of the picture & angled in such a way to keep it that way, again maybe time on camera for money comes to mind. on the other two, i again see that classic blue tint but darker. on the next where OSX is used it was cool to use the app windowing ....

@oOADROo lol :D yea, i do not understand why Apple is shown so much, i prefer generic computers shown on screen & cool UIs. Check out The Island, great movie for UI customization. OSX just flat out sucks for UI customization and movies love that dark blue look for UI shots, OSX cannot do that without a lot of help.... lol I will send a PM for the artist that does a lot of UI work for movies, you might like it.
