  • Headfookin blowing, all these year's later... Weller's voice make's my spine tingle :)

  • Great talent coupled with pure passion - magic

  • There isn't a band around today that come anywhere close to The Jam, musically, lyrically or as passionate - the band as a trio were simply untouchable - I loved The Style Council and solo Weller but The Jam ... well they were quite simply something else ....No 1 in our hearts !

  • @garylongden. I SO disagree with you. I really don't believe Weller has ever been the same since the Jam. Buckler and Foxton have it over any of the bloody journeymen he has used since. EG check out any live version of Town Called Malice by the Jam then a solo version with say Minchella and White on bass and drums and you might get an idea what I mean.....on record, Bruce in particular, make any of Weller's songs swing....check out Dreamtime or When You're Young.

  • @spikepedestal Obviously its just opinion and there is no quetion that Buckler and Foxtom were an integral part of the Jam sound. But I think that Weller realised that the format limited him and musically neither of his bandmates have done anything of note in theor own right.

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • luv the accent

  • Celluloid proof of why he needed to split the Jam. The more recent solo acoustic versions of this are so superior, bruce Foxton only has one gear, doesnt he?

  • @garylongden The Jam were, Wellar, Foxton, Butler. At that time, your statement would have meant FUCK ALL.

  • @TheBleech Not at all. My statement identifies the obvious shortcomings of that line-up in doing justice to some of Weller's compositions then. I saw the Jam three times in their early days, once on their debut tour, they were raw, visceral, but one dimensional - which is why Weller moved on, and why Foxton and Butler have been unable to do anything other than trade on long lost glory.

  • @garylongden intresting that the two best tracks on Weller's new album have Foxton back on bass to give them a kick up the ass

  • P.W. No1 simple as. !

  • there is only 1 god! His name is Weller! Id start a new religion dedicated to him but he would kick my ass cuz he is a simple man! God bow down to the true messiah!

  • love the lirics sent this to my x marion dillon sums her up lol

  • mint

  • there needs to be a Complete Jam dvd part 2 that includes all the other live and tv performances that werent on the the complete jam- or a dvd set of just the live material- there seems to be a great amount of material like this and a mountain of other great stuff people have posted- thanks to all the weller and Jam fans who post all this rare stuff!!!

  • like the jam anyway only heard this one recently learnt to play it

its a great song thats the sign of a great band, even their more obscure songs are strikingly good - like EARLY oasis b sides

  • little boy soldiers is BETTER than Imagine by Lennon-well close-but ignored anyway.

    x

  • LITTLE BOY SOLDIERS!!! Best Jam song..

    Ex mod/ punk nee1962.

  • Fuckin amazon, werent they?Decent backin fae Foxton oan this!

  • Until Craddock/Fowler arrived on the scene there has been nobody who can write songs/music like weller and it will probably be another 20 odd years until we get another quality "Mod" band afterall look how long there was between Townshend and Weller.

  • good tune and lyrics

  • One of my favourite Jam songs, in your face,,fuck off lyrics.....some people might think weller is a cunt but he's a genius cunt

  • @semerkhetTER

    well said

  • Chilling, menacing and fucking brilliant ! The Jam were my religion !

  • who is the other guy on the right? what's his name?

  • @ShAdOw116789

    Bruce Foxton

  • lOvE iT!!!

  • the greatest band for honesty in there lyrics ever

  • Great Harmonies by Bruce awesome track.

  • Best front man,bar none.thanks Paul for the concerts of my youth,Thanks The Jam.

  • To me Paul Weller is as good a songrwriter as PeteTownsend or Ray Davies. Saw them at Barbarella's in Brum in 1977, great memories

  • Check out my cover of this song if your interested. I covered it because its a great tune!

  • 3 blokes, no computers, no recordings, no gimicks, just talent.....I love it. It shows todays shit for what its really is.... souless crap.

  • I know that The Jam ruled in last 70's and early 80's.

  • love how weller sings in his own accent.

thats why bands like the kinks and the jam remain national gems rather than international

    people don't get them

  • The Jam in Paris (c'est magnifique!!!)

  • At the top of their game...fab

  • Oasis tried to be like the Jam and failed miserably, they had two good albums and the rest is crap, the Jam ruled the charts when you needed to sell a million singles to get to no 1. Oasis = Jam imitations

  • I guees they are different. Oasis is so much a Beatles' wannabe, and The Jam is absolutely unic. But Oasis still good, you can't minimize what they are, cause they are even bigger, not really better, than The Jam

  • @ashingtoon maybe they failed miserably at it cuz they didn't actually try to be like the jam. the jam were an influence but so were so many other bands eg beatles, stone roses etc.

And dispite the 1st two albums being the best, the others all still reached #1, and the masterplan which was a compilation of b-sides is better than most bands studio albums. why can people not accept that noel is a great songwriter?

  • @ashingtoon oasis tried to be the jam, what r u on about?? there completely different bands, just get a grip and enjoy the music

  • @scottyoasisfan606 I'll tell you what little boy, why don't you fuck off and listen to oasis and leave me to listen to what I want to listen to, by the way I don't enjoy listening to fucking Oasis!!

  • @ashingtoon Nah how about u stop comparing bands when it doesnt even need to be done. I love the Jam and Oasis. Did i tell u what you can and cant listen to? Act your age.

  • @scottyoasisfan606 Yawn.... go away your annoying me now, listen to what you like... frankly I don't care.

  • Fucking mint track this... Weller is fucking Weller take it or leave it fucking Gallagher isn't in the same league.... tart's and whores...mint

  • you´re damn right !! The Jam is on a different planet than Coldplay and Oasis

  • @ashingtoon Noel undoubtedly stuck with oasis for too long, i have high hopes for his musical contributions post-oasis.

  • @ashingtoon too true dude,paul never needed NO L then :D

  • noelwannabe save your breath ,your need it later to inflate your girlfriend

  • alright chill out lad

  • i do have to say that the version with weller and noel gallagher is awesome, its on the "dreams we have as children" EP. and please dont hit him with a golf club lol

  • whatever its still a good track

  • tbh he has a point i know many ppl that have met him and said he was prick but none the less his music is amazing

  • and i bet you LOVE sting?

  • never confuse te art with the artist, to be honest i couldn't give two fucks what he's like, his music is incredible.

  • @TheParanoidAndroid1 I met him last night at Bournemouth, hes a fucking great bloke, bought me a beer and we sat at a hotel bar for a couple of hours after the gig and talked about music and stuff

  • @DaMnMeSsEdUpKeYbOaRd thrilled to hear it! It sucks when your heroes turn out to be dicks. Glad to hear he isn't. Wow 12 thumbs up! Nice to see.

  • @DaMnMeSsEdUpKeYbOaRd

yeah a mate of mine met him before a gig a few years ago and said how nice he was. i can imagine if you act like a twat he might have it, but so what? he's a musician not a fucking celebrity blesss you weller

  • Comment removed

  • Always one of my favourites when they played live. Thanks.

  • top draw

  • suprised noel gallagher aint tried to fuck this track up yet,or has he??

  • shut the fuck up

  • Noel?

  • nah, he made this one better with weller, i'll tell you in a less aggresive manor to 'noelwannabe'

  • Ar this song definitely tells a story, totally brilliant song....takes me back to my mod days!!!!!

  • foxtons vocal is way too loud

  • This was the B side to Strange Town. The Jam did a few Double A Sides, And this should of been one to.

This is the best B Side ever and if you could possibly do a Jam top ten this would be very close to the number one spot.

How is the song sexist? would it be sexist if a women mentioned in a song that a man couldn't fix a car or put up a shelf........

  • yeah and mr clean

  • ahughes. Did we notice the sexist lyrics? The song is about a groupie. I think the lyrics were supposed to reflect How low a groupie would sink. But hey, thanks for pointing out the lyrics were sexist.

  • So, how low does that make the musician who avails him/herself of the groupie's services?

    Great song, though.

  • Legend Paul!!!!!

  • P.S., Has anyone else noticed the absolutely sexist lyrics to this song?

"you can't light a fire, you can't cook or sew."

Give me a break. All Paul wanted was a nice little woman who'd stay home and cook all his meals. Sheesh.

  • I don't think that Dee C. Lee was that kind. :)

  • PC-Kultur 's a symptom of a dying culture chasing its own tail. A woman who's a peacock will never be a wife or a mother. Sexist yea-but truthful and accurate portrayals more importantly; I only hear these types being addressed anyways, not all women and men. I don't feel any sorrow towards the kings and queens of the butterfly collectors! The 'isms' are irrelevant to the truth, who cares?

  • whats your problem son? This is the Jam - Weller had no innuendos?

  • Any clue what the song was about? Paul said it was about a punk groupie at the time. hardly someone you'd really want to be long term, eh?

Maybe Weller just wanted a woman who wouldn't mess him around, wihc is the least anyone could want

    Anyway, I like the line;

"And I don't care about morals, 'cause the world's insane and we're all to blame anyway."

  • I want to play for anyone who's willing and open to whatever I have to say, musically. I couldn't care less for their clothing or ethos, as a musician I am hounoured that anyone gives me 5 minutes of their time.

Mister Weller was very talented. He also knew it. Not an attractive quality.

And if I was a boy, in 1981..I'd have the same haircut. It's very cool.

  • Weller always struck me as a priviledged upper class dork. Arrogance was the least of his problems. I wouldn't be having a pint with him, in other words.

But he and The Jam sure as hell made really affecting music, and, nonetheless, my haircut was just like his, back in the day.

  • whatt a fucking ignorant dick you are.

    Clueless piece of shit.

  • And when you can't make your point with facts..it's always good to regurgitate names.

Very good. Maybe I should stick to commenting about the mix.

  • Weller always struck me as a bloke from a crappy working class area, dunno about you

  • I had this on an Lp when it first came out. When this album was released on cd, "The Butterfly Collector" wasn't included for some reason. Unless I happen upon a digital version of this song, I would consider it a rare collectors edition...

    Thanks for posting it...

  • Actually, Foxton's mic was perfect, IMO.

  • Actually her name was Soo Catwoman, real name Soo Lucus. Often misspelt as Sue. She was one of the most visible icons of the early punk movement in london in the mid 70's. Her name came from the 'catwoman' haircut she wore.

  • Superb - agree this is a classic song!

  • i think this is better than the a-side it was released with. (strange town)

  • I agree!

  • Sue Catwoman, a famous Sex Pistols groupie.

  • SOO catwoman. and soo LUCAS.

a very intelligent, articulate woman. GET IT RIGHT.

never a groupie to any band.

weller voted for thatcher, weller was funded by his daddy. last time i saw him he looked orange. in 79' he said he'd never play to a punk audience again.

arrogant overated arsehole. no connection with soo.

    GET IT RIGHT.

  • Weller never voted tory,he made a comment to wind up people like you, and as for being funded by daddy the Weller's didn't have a pot to piss in when they started. You did get the punk audience one right though . Who want to play to a load of scruffy tramps!

  • Anyone know whom this is written about...?

  • all i know is she was an infamous groupie

  • ok, thank you :)

  • Foxton's mic is too loud

  • thank god for experts eh

  • one of wellers best !
