  • This game was so much fun!

  • I remember playing this and thinking it was the most realistic game on the planet.

  • Got a copy of that with my Matrox Mystique graphics card. I was all like "Oh my God I can't believe this, it looks like real!"

I love how the mech runs like an ostrich, lol.

  • fuck yes i remember this game !

  • You drive like a freebirth cadet.

  • Wow... i remembering it looking a lot better in 1996....

  • russ_bullock Russ Bullock

All #MechWarrior fans should start following @russ_bullock and @bryanekman spread the word.

  • "All systems: Nominal". Time to ruin someone's day. Ah, the memories...

  • Dude I used to love this game on windows 95 :)

  • Sweet memories...

  • This game was tons of fun. I played it on a VooDoo Graphics with a full ThrustMaster HOTAS set up. That was a lot of fun. Once I figured out I could use the rudder pedals to rotate the waist, I was hooked (I also used them to strafe in the Quakes!). Fun times :)

  • I played this when I was 5 years old :)

  • omfg even the sounds remind me of happiness

  • Firemoth, Kit Fox, Jenner, Nova, Stormcrow, Mad Dog, Hellbringer, Rifleman, Summoner, Timberwolf, Gargoyle, Warhammer, Marauder, Warhawk, Direwolf.

  • this looks like the 3D-accelerated version for like Win 95. but it's the Titanium Edition for Win 95, huh?

  • best voice over in any pc game in history.. absolutely miss this game, thanks for sparkin some golden memories!

  • pointless comment, but god i used to love this game when i was like ... 9?? At that time I thought the graphics were like.. surreal. looking back is always so funny :)

  • brings back memories. the wasted summer of 96. lol

  • moving clouds, cmon ! Call of Duty doesn't even have that.

  • I still get the "all systems nominal" statement running through my head to this day-lol

  • "All points, attacking your target"

Loved everything about this game...music, voices, combat, story...still wishing for a remake...

  • the german female voice is much more erotic IMHO. but the english one is fine too. I used to love to play his game, though the long sight is really bad not to speak of the graphics. Still it gives you a great felling of really sitting in a mech. I'd love to see a movie based off the mech warrior games.

  • heat level: critical

  • light amplification: engaged

    light amplification: disabled

love that computer voice. classic shit

  • Modern warfare 2 ain't got nothing on this.

    Mechwarrior Forever.

  • LOL, I have that mech startup wav as the windows startup for my gaming laptop :)

I miss the MW2 series. Played it with a Thrustmaster setup using the POV hat as my torso twist. Was a deadly setup, not twitchy like a mouse.

  • her voice...so soothing & comforting...even in the heat of battle

    "shutdown sequence initiated"

    "shutdown sequence overridden"

  • I want to play this game just...one...more...time.

  • @Gamer08ful I still have it in my closet somewhere. I should try running the game on windows 7 in 95 compatibility mode :)

  • For those complaining about the graphics, MechWarrior 2 was one of the pioneers of high resolution polygon graphics. Seeing polygons move this quickly and smoothly was amazing at the time. This is also the Titanium Trilogy version which has more textures than the flat shaded original which some people prefer.

Even with the early graphics the gameplay was so spot on your imagination still let you feel like you were piloting an mech into battle.

  • @errorparrot people complainging about the graphics are probably kids anyway so its nothing to listen to really, i pity todays kids, growing up with all that mainstream megacorp bullshit that just keep spitting out prequel after prequel, selling them the same game over and over with diffrent name, playing games in the early to late 90ties was the shit. i wanna go back in time

  • @drglibrl With you there mate. For example I actually find games like 98's Thief: Dark Project FAR more immersive than say, 2008's Crysis with all graphics settings maxed out. I think the beauty of these old-school games was that they encouraged you to use your imagination. I find that I get bored very quickly with later state of the art games and go back to play the old classics instead... they've got this charm to them that newer games seem to lack completely.

  • @drglibrl me too mate. this game took over my mind when i was young... when pc games were still being virginized. I too feel bad for kids now adays. they missed out on the PC gaming experience which cant be replaced.. Whenever i play new games I just drool over the graphics. and remember the days of kyrandia and THE ULTIMATE DOOM

  • i miss this game.

  • I want the mech startup sequence on my computer to play whenever I power on.

  • @mrharryballzonya that's what i got for my computer! it plays the "shutdown sequence initiated. shutting down" whenever i shut down, too. pm me and i'll send you it or point you in the direction to dl it.

  • @mrharryballzonya - now that's a great idea, I'm going to look into doing that!

  • fuckin LOVED this game

  • damn

  • Man, I didn't remember how terrible the graphics were.

  • rock hawk mcgaw doode this is tight as a fuck

  • no way i don't remeber being able to watch your missles as they flew!

  • @Mechonized

you probably played the ps1 version?

  • Comment removed

  • Thx. I corrected the mistake.

  • OMG i love that time teller. That voice is...GRAW. I hope the new one is HALF as fun to play as mw2 and 3

  • No. It's not. Rofl. xD

  • @IceKoldKilla1992

Only for modern day gaming nooblets.

  • Amen

  • The thing for this game and possibly 3 is that when you walk inside a mech the cockpit actually shakes, which makes it all the more realistic. Also whoever voiced the computer in this game should get an award if they didnt already.

  • wow. I remember that beginning with the system checks. God this game was fun.

  • Wow.... goes to show you gameplay counts for a lot... those graphics suck.... but i guess we didn't know any better back then ^^

  • The DOS and 3Dfx versions look better...

The textures on the Titanium Edition aren't as true to the original game, and also I like having Image Enhancement (I.E. the Wireframe mode)

  • Of course they don't! However, the MW4 system doesn't let you make Battlemechs of your own at all!

My point here is: MW4 is a little more realistic in the limitations, but it also restricts you from making mechs any way you want. If I want to pilot a stock Uziel, MW4 lets me. However, if I wanted to pilot a Trebuchet, I couldn't. In MW2/3, it was possible to make any kind of Mech with the models available, even if the aesthetics weren't perfect.

  • Ah yes, good times. Mech Warrior 2, Hellbender, Descent, POD, and Commander Keen were the games I was addicted to growing up. PC gaming was so good then. It still is good, but some of these games will never stop being awesome.

  • Seriously! Those clouds beat the crap out of most brand new games! What really made the older games so great though, was the ability to customize machines and pilot almost any mech in existence, versus the extremely limited selection in newer games. There's no beating classic Mechwarrior!

  • As much as I love good old Mechwarrior 2 and Mercs (they got me into the series), I have to respond to your "limited selection" comment.

111 Mechs, soon to be more with the upcoming release of Mekpak4, plus 15 battle armor/infantry is hardly "limited".

In fact the only selection that comes close to that of MW4:Mercs, as far as I know, is the NAIS-patched Mercs2 (which does sorta bear out your comment but only if one doesn't know about the Mekpaks).

  • Technically there are more machines in 4, but you can't do anything you want with them.

In the older games, you could change absolutely everything about it, no limitations for weapon slots or equipment.

That's the real point of my comment. :)

  • battlemechs dont work that way.

there ARE limitations. While the older mechwarriors do many things better than 4, 4 really shines in the mech lab. Compared to the older games where every hard point is an Omnirack.

  • Except that MW2 is mostly omni-mechs so it made sense that they behave that way. Also there's no actual rule that says that it's impossible to mount Weapon X on 'Mech Y. There are canon Catapult designs with no missile and an all energy loadout, there's a difference between harder to change (traditional 'Mech vs Omni) and downright in possible.

  • look at all the game developers trying to get the best graphics and realism... but this is just old school epic stuff

  • it just goes to show that a great game is based on programming, and not amazing graphics at the end of the day. The graphics can't be like crap, but fluid programming is a must

  • is this 3dfx version?

  • "Reactor online, sensors online, weapons online. All systems nominal"

    epic

  • I miss that startup sequence. I like how it even says the temperature and everything. Adds to the immersion.

  • Yeah, me too. but at school nobody understood me when I talked about mechwarrior ;-(

  • Oh man, this brings back memories. There was this one level on the wolf campaign that I remember attempting like 20 times a in row. It was ridiculous because you had to face 5 summoners at once, and the heaviest mech you were allowed was a timber wolf. Ahh man, good times!

  • Awesome

  • this was st game ever during its time

  • This game taught me the importance of strafing.

  • god this is one of those shows that better graphics dont make a better game.... as much as mech 3 and 4 had better graphics and refined gameplay, the lack of sevral old designs relaly make it less fun that is why i loved mektek

  • OMG this is sooo prehestoric

  • I discovered MW2 late, about 1997 I think. It came with a Matrox Mystique 3D accelerator I bought. That version was the perfect one. Not too much on the special effects, just textured earth and sky. All the brilliant OST was there. And it ran really smooth. Since then I've played the 3DFX version which was bad, and the classic original which was great. One of the best games ever on PC I think.

And yeah, that Matrox Mystique was useless at everything but the bundled MW2. :D

  • i started playing this game when i was 3...14 years later... i miss it! the new mechwarriors really dont compare to the old ones.

  • Ah.. the 3D accelerated version. rare

  • Good times... I used to do the same as well, even in Earthsiege 2. Critical hit.. Left Gyro...

  • lol, this game brought so many hours of fun. Are you using the MS Sidewinder Pro? haha

    Critical hit!

  • No. I like mouse and keyboard. I missed the days playing it on a 233MHz computer ... :)

  • @shufai I still have PCs from the 90's that run this game. lol

  • @shufai MS sidewinder 2 !!!!!!! hahaha

  • @shufai

    Those were the days...

  • I still have the Sidewinder Pro. xD

  • I bought a 233MMX Pentium 2 in 2003 just to play this and Quake in windows 98 ;D

  • I have a PC with a Pentium 2 that I built during ITT Tech Essentials. Man, PC games are the best, especially during the 90's and early 2000.

  • the golden era of PC gaming :d

  • Indeed it was. Ever play Zork Nemesis or Diablo? I wasted my life on those. I miss playing it on my Windows 95 233 MHZ PC. With the 1 GB HDD. =D

  • Not Zork, I was very action/Strategy/FPS orientated up until about 1996/7. Diablo was the first game I ever played on Windows 95, a demo on PC-Zone CD cover disk. It made me realise that windows was now capable of running good games as well as DOS. I had an AMD-K6 100Mhz back then, but soon upgraded to an Intel 200mhz MMX when Quake 1 was released. I think my HD was 9.6gig, which was special :D

Great days, like I said, the golden era of PC gaming.

  • Moments that defined my gaming life in the 90's :

Seeing Doom at a PC shop in 1993, the first PC game I ever saw. Playing UFO enemy unkown 2 months later after saving for a budget PC (which couldn't run Doom). Buying my first pentium PC and playing direct X games in 65000 colours. Playing deathmatch Quake with mouse and keyboard. Buying a voodoo card and playing Quake 2. Playing System Shock 2 and Deus Ex back to back in 2001. Finishing ROME TW. Playing Quake 3 online for 20 hours straight.

  • That is just epic.

  • LOL This is epic! I remember playing this with my first MS Sidewinder with a 4 way hat and 4 buttons on the base. I'd give up quite a bit to go relive the days of Mech Warrior, Hellbender, Monster Truck Madness, Delta Force1 and 2. Those days were some of the best.

  • The MS Sidewinder!!! Yes!!! I remember getting that as a Christmas Gift when I was six years old.. Its a shame I was only a child in those days (I still played Mechwarrior, Earthsiege 2, Interstate 76 and so many others religiously), because now I miss the era of 90's gaming so much... Those days really were the best.

  • Your gaming keynotes are similar to mine iris, sometimes I wonder if my taste in games would be different now if I had played one game over another in the early days. PcZone isnt a patch on what it used to be either, I still buy it religiously though. Misguided loyalty I suppose.

  • I got a Sidewinder 2 Precision Pro so many Christmases ago, and it STILL WORKS GREAT!

I may need to get a newer Logitech Joystick with Force Feedback soon though because I like that feature.

  • @pronag haha holy shit. memory lane dude. i used a sidewinder force feedback pro for this if i remember rightly

  • omg i used to play this game with my old Aptiva (win95) and they gave me a Ms Sidewinder pro when i bought the computer (actually my father bought the pc)

  • @Heracleithon That's incredible! I had an aptiva and windows 95 too. the computer is too old and now i have a mac but i still remember this game.

  • having real problems getting this to work in vista via DosBox

  • You need to use D-Fend with dos box. Google it.

  • well what im doing now is just putting the whole game and everything on a usb drive. then i'll boot my laptop throught the jumpdrive. i'll check out d-fend though.

  • Lol I took as many medium Laasers as I could run up to the mech and shoot out its leg....worked pretty well lol....then I ran into one of the lvls where I was in the city at night in my mad cat and kept gettin raped by those Kitfoxes....yes I sucked at this game

  • Used to love this game. If you got enough machine guns and linked them together it was like an "i win" button. I bought mechwarrior 4 and it doesnt have quite the same feel. They make the graphics better but they short you on the gamplay.

  • o yea, the 10 machine gun build, right?

    good times

  • there r youtube vids of how 2 make it work if u have the CD if that helps any

  • holy shit, I remember that now!

"Proceed to dustoff zone, for extraction..."

And what a RELIEF after an impossible mission it was to hear that! great memories...

  • "reactor: online

    sensors: online

    weapons: online

    all systems nominal"

    fucking classic

  • whats the best program to save videos like this while your playing mech?

    to save gameplay videos.

  • I'm downloading it now for XP with a crack, I used to play when I was 6, godd days :)

  • COuld you tell me how? I played this when I was about 6 too, and I really want to play again. Compatability mode doesn't work for me. :(

I miss this game so much. It's definately my all time fave.

  • Well, I downloaded it too, but it wouldn't work for XP either for me. If you find a solution, please tell me?

  • Of course. Right now I'm planning on just getting my friends old computer that runs Windows 95. Kind of alot for just one game, but oh well.

  • can you please tell me to cause i still have the game and i want to know so please tell me i have xp.

  • Sorry, i couldn't get it to work :(

  • me 2 man, they never made it this good again.

You could really customise your mech and there were so many features.

  • omg i used to play this on my 95 ibm the game came free with it! I was ten and rocking on earth but couldn't understand how to play for red fox or any of those.. how are you still playing this what system do you have?

  • I tried the POWERVR version on my laptop and it doesn't get past the mission menus. I press accept mission and then it flashes and says MISSION FAILED. ???

  • OMG!!! since 2 hours im trying to find a patch to make the game work under xp. want to play now!!! how did you get the game running?

  • dudeit works with out patches on mine lol xp!!!!!!!!!!!

  • acully i was kidding it really does not work please tell m what you did to mkae it work for your xp ?

  • dudeit works with out patches on mine lol xp!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hmm, maybe u have another version. i've got the 31cc version.

but i installed win98 on an old pc and it works excellent.

  • no same here i have 31 cc

  • hmm, strange.

do u have the win95 pentium version?

whatever, i can play now and i'm happy. ;-)

i think i'll buy mechwarrior 4 mercenaries. want to play online!!

    MechWarrior rules!!! ^^

  • how did you get yours working ?????????

  • By installing windows 98 se and installing mechwarrior 31cc. no problems. works just fine. ;-)

  • question for persn how made this were you using a joy stick ? good handling !

  • question for persn how made this were you using a joy stick ? good handling !

  • i collect mechwarrior games.. i owe ALL parts...^^ even the rare first versions of clanpack with the 110 ton bug

  • who have Mach worrior 3 on computer:(( i want to play =(( or download msg me :)

  • ok i will !

  • what mission was this and what game mercenaries 31st century combat or ghostbear i dont think i remember this mission

  • I LOVE THE DUAL LRM 20

  • i had this game wen iwas 12

  • well compared to todays games, yeah. but back in the day, this was game was amazing.

  • Man. That Jenner IIC would not die.

  • For those who have the Titanium pack, here are some XP Patches that work in everything except Multiplayer.Remember to make sure your also running the programs in Win95 Compatability mode,as the patches say.

  • Thats pretty In Sync,I don't know what your talking about.

  • I loved this game so much, it will definately not run on my Windows XP now, but this game was amazing, and btw, how did you get the camera to follow your missles? I never did that, they really need to remake this, leave everything exactly the same, just update the graphics and some sound effects a little (I used to LOVE the PPC Cannons, they had a cool sound to them)

  • "ow did you get the camera to follow your missles?" F10 after fireing missles.

  • sorry about stupid ! ii play thsi agme when i was 4 or 5 nwo im 12 ! i liek it i liek to use the i dont know the name of teh robot!@i always kill a person small person ! i like it !u got teh dsiscx/!but \wind 95 my win is xp

  • damn, shit takes me back!

  • FOR EVERYONE LOOKING FOR THE SOUNDTRACK... If you put the PC disc into your CD player and hit "skip" while it's loading, it'll go over the gaming code and play the soundtrack. It makes for some epic driving music!!!!

    ENJOY!

  • The CD version of the game had very cool and amtospheric music.

  • this looks different from my MW2 game. The patters on the ground and in cockpit look different. Also I don't remember any clouds. Is this a modded version or a newer version of the game? Like I say, looks rather different.

Not to mention the voice is diff.

  • One of the best games ever made.

  • This must have been the 3D accelerated version. I don't remember these textures and those clouds in mech 2.

  • I had a summoner with 3 medium lasers, 1 small laser, and the rest that stuff that cools you down, armor and the jet pack. unstoppable. And I used to play multiplayer against human beings, not the shitty computer =]

  • Yeah, those sounds are what made it sound "right" and made MW4 seem like a diff game entirely (other than the fact that the story-line was mostly a separate story based off a similar idea). I've already said this, but MS needs to make another MW game based off the MW2 story and feel and basically do what C&C3 did: Improve graphics, but keep as much of the original feel while still improving the game/gameplay. I would buy it.

  • Daaamn!!! This was the best game ever. I used to play it on a old Mac. My favorite mission was destroying the Core reactor on the planet, which meant walking for 15 minutes, crushing Summoners and Dire Wolves, and after you destroyed the core reactor, running like hell to reach the escape transport.

The best mecha game... Which is your favorite Mech? mine is the Nova and Warhammer. Nav Gamma Reached, Mission successful.... :oP

  • mine is rifle man warhammer and timber wolfe

  • Timber Wolf, Summoner, DireWolf, Warhawk and that one big one with the face and machine guns in his fingertips if I am remembering correct theres oe like that

  • gargoyle?

  • pulse lasers owned soo much! i also liked that single missle launching thingy that does massive damage, it was arrow something like roman numerals whatever cool game

  • Oh I love that sound.

Reactor on-line, weapons on-line, all systems nominal.

  • the cinematics of the game is crap compared to shattered steel. but what it lacks in cinematics it surely makes up in gameplay!

  • Hey the cinematics rule.

  • you havent seen the shattered steel then

  • I looked at screenshots and it looks like a clone of mechwarrior 2.

  • haha... you have a well based opinion then

  • Dos versions of this game should work with XP. It does for me.

  • i like the origonal mw2, not titanium, titanium looks to much like mech2 mercs 2 me

  • MW2 is STILL the best Mechwarrior game in my books. It just had the original Battletech feeling that was lost by all the newer games.

  • amen.

  • Second that.

  • great game men

    I had the trilogy

    ^^

And well I played another games, like Marathon.

    :P

  • I only have the original DOS/Windows 95 version, Mechwarrior 2: 31st Century Combat. I'd love to get my hands on a 3D accelerated version as well. Aren't there any source ports (like ZDoom or Doom Legacy for Doom)?

  • There was a 3d accelerated port that came with my matrox mystique...thats the only one I can think of

  • Great video!i really need to find a way to make it works on XP

  • Very impressive graphics for a game ten or more years old. Where do you download the 3Dfx graphics update patch for the Windows 95 version of MW2? I can't find it anywhere and would really like to play this game without the quite frankly boring graphics of the unpatched game. Thanks in advance. (If 3Dfx isn't the correct name, someone please correct me.)
