8 years I've owned an Elise , driven everyday , it earns its keep ..and no back pain. However , its not for everyone. If you are used to wafting along and not feeling how many coats of paint they used to paint the white lines in the road as you change lanes then you will hate the car. Other people , like me , will drive everywhere with a smile on their face , yes , I may be soaked to the skin if its raining or drenched in sweat if its hot , but i don't care :-)
I knew somebody who owned one of these overpriced, Toyota-engined toy cars..and they suffered back pain after a month of driving it due to the damn thing not having any real shocks. All the potholes, road cracks and anything else on the road gets transmitted directly to your spine due to poor engineering. This is why you see so many of these on used car lots..they cause back pain. Get a Porsche..better engineered..better ride..better engine (not Toyota like on this thing)..higher resale too.
@Nightbird Look... I don't know If you are trying to troll here but you obviously know nothing about a sports cars suspention.... Lotus's (especially the elise/exige) are generally regarded as on of the best handling cars out there, with one of the best enginered suspensions in both feel and performance... The whole point of the car is to "feel the road." You obviously must not enjoy driving and belong in a mini van as far as i'm concerned...
@ShopVids I was speaking of someone who owned the Elise & drove it daily. Good handling has nothing to do with comfort, & it is well known in the Lotus sports car community this car is uncomfortable to drive for more than 20mins. If you knew any Lotus owners, you would know that the Evora is the FIRST Lotus that doesn't hurt your back & offers real world shocks, the Elise doesn't, & Lotus drivers knows this. In the REAL world, pot holes hurt if you don't have adequate shocks dumbass.
@Nightbird you do know how a suspention works right? shocks have very little to do with stiffness.... it's the springrates. You could run NO shocks in a regular car and potholes wouldn't hurt any more than they do WITH shocks, the car would just be very bouncey. nice attemp to act like you know what you're talking about though.
@ShopVids Troll? Seriously? What are you..12? Nice that you resort to insults when you disagree with an opinion. I'm the past owner of a Lotus Esprit & BMW M5, among other cars, so I know sports cars, and currently drive a Mercedes Benz S Class & Porsche Carrera. I make informed comments based on what I know & experience, unlike you who just reads about these cars instead of owning them & living with them to see their strengths & weaknesses. Your obviously just an armchair driver.
@Nightbird haha I own a turboed 911 carrera, check my channel if you don't believe me. the reason i thought you might be trolling was because you cut down the elise on a video lotus enthusiasts would obviously be watching, and not to mention the fact you said the suspension was poorly engineered. an elise/exige is made to be a trackday car it is engineered to be a bit stiffer to give better handling. and it is engineered very well for this purpose.
Now try it when it is raining, when the car is parked in between two other cars and there is 1,5 foot space between the two cars.
I guess... the roof then has to move anyway, you get in, drive out of the parking space, and then re-assemble the roof... Oh my God. I'm gonna sell my Elise thinking of this horror scenario!!
I'm 6 ft 9 and somewhere in the neighborhood of 275-285, it sucks these are such cool looking cars. I don't think I'd fit in it if the roof was torn off :(
Ignoring the fact it's the girls way to do it, he didn't have the steering wheel to contend with. I see that and raise you getting into the driver's seat of a Caterham 7 WITH the roof on. :P
comrotable? no.... nice. this car has so much natural oversteer it is fast with any type of tyre...

@skottoman I think it's because people are so used to big heavy daily driver doors, they aren't expecting the door to weigh as much as a baby.
