Rhaegar never had a chance to sit on the thrown before the Targaryans were over thrown. Of course, I've no doubt that he got plenty of the crazy gene from that alone, but it doesn't help that his family was so inbred for so long, even though Viserys's mother was a Martell.
I was amazed when I saw this actor in the recent BBC production of great expectations and how well he played such a nice character in that. Shows a great range.

@CanadianGuy2000 Maybe partly because we only saw him through Dany's eyes, and he always acts like a jerk close to Dany. The tv-series gave us an opportunity to get a wider perspective of the character. It's thypical Martin, almost every character is totally different when seen from the point of view of another character. But when you see it all from the pov of the character itself, you begin to understand, and the character is suddenly so different. Sadly Viserys never became a pov character.

Upon my reading of the first book, Viserys appears to be overbearing in regards to his little sister. I have always read it as such: that he had incestuous, bullying intentions in regards to her. Whether that is true, he undeniably views Daenerys as his property/tool... and, sent her to task.
Will he stand to task? I have little hope for it. He seems a cowardly, wicked mess at this point.

@strifed169 Rhaegar was supposed to be a "True Dragon", a man born to be a great King. I'd picture him to look like Jason Isaacs if he was 15-20 years younger (In the Lucius get-up) or the guy who plays Eric from True Blood with long blonde hair.

Dragon Age is a complete rip off. I hate Bioware now, they have no creativity left in them. Night's Watch collects men to fight in the wall, thieves, assassins and rapers, same goes for Grey Wardens collecting men to fight Darkspawn, thieves, assassins and other people who are helpless. Look at the armor the King in Dragon Age has, it is the same as the armor with Jamie Lannister and other guards of the King.. Many similarities, Bioware sucks dude.
Viserys is such a complex character. Unlike disgusting Joffrey, there is something of the lost boy that you can empathize with a bit. Even though he is ruthless and even cruel I feel like the mad gene coupled with life in exile and such a monumental task of retaking the throne nurtures his downfall. I can't help but to feel sad when i watch him - and just like in the book, he is so beautiful. Hopefully like Drogo he is reborn in Dani's dragons and can redeem himself.

I think he is a good looking younger actor (I know people who dislike his character so much they don't think he is cute at all) but he really makes himself unlikeable - which you're right is actually hard especially when an actor is good looking in my opinion.. Clint's the man! (especially as the lonley wondering gunslinger - but I always love him like that) :)

@strifed169 Rhaegar was supposed to be a "True Dragon", a man born to be a great King. I'd picture him to look like Jason Isaacs if he was 15-20 years younger (In the Lucius get-up) or the guy who plays Eric from True Blood with long blonde hair.

@fanguk2 I sort of liked Viserys even though i can see hes selfabsorbed naive and powerhungry. There is something uhm .. Appealing about his narcisism, lol. I despise the Lannisters (minus Tywin) alot more. But i haven't read the books yet, so i''m not really to judge. Will read them when i finish the Malazan Book of the Fallen.

Dragon Age is a complete rip off. I hate Bioware now, they have no creativity left in them. Night's Watch collects men to fight in the wall, thieves, assassins and rapers, same goes for Grey Wardens collecting men to fight Darkspawn, thieves, assassins and other people who are helpless. Look at the armor the King in Dragon Age has, it is the same as the armor with Jamie Lannister and other guards of the King.. Many similarities, Bioware sucks dude.

Viserys is such a complex character. Unlike disgusting Joffrey, there is something of the lost boy that you can empathize with a bit. Even though he is ruthless and even cruel I feel like the mad gene coupled with life in exile and such a monumental task of retaking the throne nurtures his downfall. I can't help but to feel sad when i watch him - and just like in the book, he is so beautiful. Hopefully like Drogo he is reborn in Dani's dragons and can redeem himself.

I think he is a good looking younger actor (I know people who dislike his character so much they don't think he is cute at all) but he really makes himself unlikeable - which you're right is actually hard especially when an actor is good looking in my opinion.. Clint's the man! (especially as the lonley wondering gunslinger - but I always love him like that) :)
