  • I am reading your book (Creating Animated Cartoons with Character) This is great! Your inspiring to me! Thanks for writing this book! :)

  • This is what happens when Garfield eats a little TOO MUCH lasagna.

  • Simply gorgeous.

  • Your early work is AWESOME! :)

  • Oh wow; my animation is kinda like this since I had to draw everything over and over again too; but how am I supposed to make an animation without having to do that?

  • @rocko428 You can have thin tracing paper and separate different certain parts of the cartoon to different layers. One piece of paper over the other, and so on. I used Flash and Computer paper to do my stuff sometimes, so I'm sure that the same thing can be applied to traditional animation.

    Layer 1: Background

Layer 2: Maybe your character holding a pose?

Layer 3: Your characters arm is waving while your character's body has a still pose. Hope this helps!

  • I did this project in school, and we couldn't afford cels. So I used unregistered typing paper, and used a baking pan to line up the drawings. So, yes, like Gertie, everything had to be drawn over and over again. (But not as well as Winsor McCay.)

  • Why you're not using cels?

The animation style's like "Gertie the Dinosaur".

  • I'm gonna take animation at Deanza next quarter :D

  • I may upload some of it. It's kind of precious to me, so I don't think I want to do all of it. I will release it on DVD sometime soon with some other films.

  • Hey Joe, will you be uploading "My Dog Zero"? Because it's not anywhere on Youtube right now.
