I don't think it's fair to say that there is no good music today. I'm 16 years old and I absolutely love Kate Bush! But I also love current artists like Lady Gaga. I think in 30 years time today's artists will be appreciated more. Love you Kate! xx
@321mko1 - I agree with you, but it IS harder to find the good stuff amongst today's 'stars'.
Searching for it is part of the fun though, and music is an individual thing too. You like Lady GaGa, but there will be loads who hate her too, it's horses for courses. There was a lot of dross in the 80s too. To stay popular for as long as Kate has, when she is not a prolific writer, she has to be quite good. The Blue Nile are another non-prolific but excellent 80s band, and still going strong.
Im 14 and i love Kate Bush and her music, i grew up listening to her and will always prefer it to any of the rubbish thats put out into the world of music nowadays.
Think I have to agree w/ luc649. I've listened to this so many times that if she isn't lipsynching, she has the most incredible talent to reproduce the sounds from her studio recordings. Doesn't matter though as this song is simply incredible!
Kate Bush is quite simply an exemplary person in every respect. She is utterly true to her art and her calling, yet remains completely and adorably herself. She is transcendent of both fashion and the vanities that masquerade as talent in lesser artists. Always has been, and always will be, uniquely her beautiful self. I will never stop loving her and her music.
@ENEMENCIO123VISION because in the 80ies as well as today many tv productions do not want real acts because you need a lot of electronics in order to get acceptable sound... logistics and so on. a fast change on stage is impossible, you need soundchecks before. Kate Bush could have done it, but only with midi network, perhaps even two fairlights, drum computer, and more at least two celli.
@rabautios - These days it's easy with memory on the desks. You could simply set up 1 MAIN band, drums bass keys guitar and vocals and then get the mix for that band and store it in the desks memory 1 slot, then get the next act on using the same gear, or maybe a different guitar and keys and repeat ad infinitum. Then when band 2 comes on stage it's one button press and the mix is there instantly. I don't think they had desks with memory in 86 though, early 90s were the first i believe.
sorry, not live vocals, as much as I would like them to be . IF the performance is different from the album ( not convinced) then she pre-recorded this before the lip-sync performance. Not live deal breaker: when she is being swirled around at the end you can hear her voice get close and intimate on the recording but it appears as though the mic moves away from her mouth.
@helloweenarctico this is the original sound track great video i have a copy of it but its on betamax and unfortunately mines died thankyou for posting jezzby47 ...
Some one asked who is the greatest singer of recent times, there are many candidates but there is only one answer: Kate Bush. Whole cultures have less subversive power or the ability to evoke dreams than Kate. The piper at the gates of dawn, January 1978.
i dont care what they say is set up or not.. its still our Kate on stage and its all my little heart needs ,, so what. shes beautiful. i love her. and i miss what she means in my life.
Did those suits at the table know just what they were looking at? The top of an iceberg of immense talent? OK, I'll give some the benefit of the doubt.
I absolutely love KB but I think she was miming because the vocal sounds identical to the recording. It makes slagging off artificial constructs like Cheryl Cole much harder to justify.
i agree too, and before i heard this i thought futureheads were quality and still do, however i think kate bush i love more, so much more emotion init...:):)
I'm sorry for misleading you, I had a better listen to it and I think you might be right, it is playback... But her live performances are so good, you can hardly tell the difference if she decides to perform it the exact same way as the recording.
@gianilira - A lot of bands are as good live as they are in the studio, a lot are absolutely crap live too. It's more to do with the programme makers being able to instantaneously switch settings from one band to the next at events like this, these days it's easy with memories on mixing desks, but back in the 80s they didn't have this facility, plus it's so much easier to mime it anyway, and you are all guaranteed a good sound then.
@gianilira This is definitely live vocals - although I agree it's hardly obvious as they're so close to the recording on the album. You can hear the volume change slightly as she moves the mic closer, and some of the pronunciation is noticeably different from the studio recording. Fantastic video as most KB videos are mimed - amazingly considering she is an exceptionally talented singer.
@bensherman1977 Omg, I think you are right. It's either live or a different mix because it differs from the album version in pace... She's such a brilliant singer!
@gianilira - I don't think it is, what makes you think it is? There is no way on earth she could dance at the end and sing and her not sound out of breath. When bands rehearse for tours, (they tend to spend a month or so in Nomis studios - Simon Napier Bells rehearsal studio complex) and tape these recordings which are sometimes used in the live environment. So you get a slightly different vocal and music from the original, but the overall sound is as near to the CD master as you will get.
@jezzyby47 Listen, when she did the 'Tour of Life', it was all live, she sang everything and danced everything. Admittedly, that almost destroyed her and I know this is some years later, but I'm prepared to believe. And the others are right, she always wants to be note- and step-perfect, so sometimes it is difficult to tell. Me? I would forgive anything, if I could see a live performance!
@TheQuietEye - I'm not saying this isn't live. I know Kate is excellent live, and a lot of bands are, but equally there are a lot who can't cut it and the description i gave above is how they 'do it' and fool everyone into thinking that it was live. BUT as i also said, at events like this they do tend to mime to a pre-recorded version just so they can switch bands quickly. That pre-recorded version is not the same as the CD version in some cases, which also confuses some people.

lol..haven't seen a comment yet that states the fact that her live performance is as good...if not better than the album recording.....play this back to back against the CD version....watch no video...just listen.........
..That my friends is TRUE talent....bet she could do as good A Capella too...... If everyone spent 30 minutes a week listening to her...bet the world would be a more compassionate place...i bet ya...
Is that live? I just assumed that someone had dubbed the actual recording over her live performance. I remember she sounded incredible when she was on SNL singing "the man with the child in his eyes". That was definitely live and better than the actual recording I thought.
