its not necessarily a bad album. it just wasn't what we expected from Metallica. if a new mainstream band made that album we probably would have loved it.
Basically what im saying is, get over it! They moved on 20 yrs ago, maybe you should accept it. Fair enough, ur "old skool" metallica, but to rip them apart for changing? thats just pointless. How many bands over 20yrs could've changed so drastically and still made it?? (U2, the Stones, Slayer). Metallica made their own way, bent the rules, and are still on top.
thats right...why bother to listen to them if you dont like them anymore...just listen to their old stuff and leave others to hear their new as well...I personally evolved through their songs...each one has something that i can get...there is no need to argue on music its stupid...music must unite people not divide them.Love from Greece
Dude, not running you down here, i see your point, but at the end of the day, its only YOUR opinion, u make it sound like ur their disgruntled ex manager. Yes, after AJFA they chose a different path, why? who knows, and dont tell me YOU know exactly why, (money fame etc) cause you dont know that. If they stayed underground, making RTL's still, you would prob be here bitching about that too.
for me it's not a case if only after the death of Cliff metallica begin to do "strange metal" different from thrash.. however max rispect for the 4 horsemen! they rulez!
It's pathetic what they have become nowadays. And also, my point in this video goes far deeper than just the fact that they chose money over musical integrity. Its your fault if you take a second and actually see the true meaning of what i'm trying to say.
Of course they were making money in the 80's but that wasn't the main focus of their career at all. The main focus back then was the music and not the "Metallica wrist band" or the cool new "Metallica style lunchbox" or the "Metallica signature guitar" or the "Metallica cool new ringtones".
Great slide show to accompany one of their best songs! Thanks x101proofchaosx for putting this together. It's great how all of the pictures are from the MOP (IMO their greatest) era. Rest in peace Cliff!!
So have your opinion, but at least acknowledge the fact that Metallica decided to go for money and more fame instead of what they truly go into music for in the first place, which was to show the World what they had to say, and they said it hard, loud, fast, aggressive, and relentlessly. Now they are chilling in their huge Mansions snuggled away in Hollywood sipping on wine and thinking of new and more "catchy" songs. So thats my view, just thought i would let you know.
Point well taken, and I do acknowledge the fact that they did go for more money and fame, but there is something about the new songs that is not catchy but more concerned with trying a new style and push it as far as they could. I don't know how everyone else feels but that to me is admirable, because few have the ability of the potential to do it.
Thrash metal was spawned from the culture, lifestyle, and opinions of a group of people who saw what the World was like, and how the Government fucks us, and how dumbass presidents and corrupt adminstrations send us off to useless money-fueled wars, and archaic laws still opressing what we do that were based on religion and propaganda in the first place. Thrash Metal saw all of this and decided to fight against it and voice their opinions through music.
A lifestyle that goes against all of what Metallica has done with themselves and their music since 1991 and their first string of albums with that fucking douchebag money grubbing canadian pop-producer Bob Rock.
I will admit Enter Sandman, Fuel, Ect.. are all very catchy songs and very mainstream accesible, but that is all they are to me, a catchy riff wrapped in a shroud of more expensive producing and mixing. Thrash metal and metal music in general is more than just about being catchy or being liked by alot of people, its about a lifestyle.
Strawfilm, i will respect your opinion on Metallica being the same, but i honestly can't say i agree with it at all. AJAF in my opinion was one of Metallica's most well thought out, well written, well played, and musically complex albums to date. Even if their new shit might be "Catchier" or more refined and produced than their old stuff, it doesn't mean that i condone it.
I don't care what you say, Metallica was still good, even after '89, in fact I thought "And Justice for All" lacked their true spirit. THat is just me, Metallica is and was the same as it always has been, their songs are the proof. This is the truth.
I made this video as a safe haven for all the old thrash Metallica fans, so dont comment if you dont have any thing good to say, but i am always open to debate so message me.
bebop, i think this forum is not for you. I am not going to even attempt to go into the vast amount of reasons/theories, and principles behind why i hated them after the Black Album, because i don't have any energy left after battling many people like you about Metallica. If you want to actually discuss it PM me, otherwise, just comment on the video, which is solely about the Metallica i love, not the Metallica now.
Dude, Metallica still rocked after 89. So the black album wasn't as fast or complex, so that makes it bad? No. And I also loved Load and Reload, it wasn't thrash, it was more hard rock then anything, and I respect metallica for trying something completely new instead of playing the same shit over and over again.
Older MetallicA was perfect, the concerts were awesome, the stadiums were always full, the songs were fantasctic like nothing else matters, master one...It is a pity that new metallica is worse. ¿why robert? Jason was the fucking betterrr. It´s a big pity...
Thank you man, fucking Old Metalliac forever. Fuck em now, they went from a thrash band saying they would NEVER commercially advertise/produce their music, now they use protools like it was toilet paper and they have a canadian pop producer haha.
Yeah Bob Cock sucked. But they've got Rick Rubin now. He produced most of Slayer's albums, including the classic that is Reign in Blood. That's why I have high hopes for the next Metallica album, which I hope will be as good as ...And Justice For All was, seeing as that was their last great album.

So this music that i love was spawned out of a LIFESTYLE, it was NOT made just to "sound good", do you see where I am coming from here?
