I just noticed something funny. I'm just getting off of the scene with Miss Havisham getting set on fire, and on the left of the screen is an ad for firefighters. LOL
different way they did this scene from the book. I was so excited while reading that scene, and now it's not as much as I thought. Bleh -- but yea! 'cause it's still good. ^_^
How is it that all those who bring misfortune on themselves seek to blame others. They are always blinded by their vile passions and are unable to see what consequence will come of their evil doings.
Her dress catches fire from the fireplace or a candle, it is clear in the text, she doesn't spontaneously combust at all. Look it up, check the book, it is plain and simple. End of story.
You didn't? Oh, maybe that was a different argument. I don't even know why I felt the need to re-comment on this after like a year. oh, well. *Rolls joint*
Gosh this is really good! What is it about Dickens novels that translates to movies/tv so well? I've seen at least three versions of Great Expectations since I was a kid and they've all been good - though this one is perhaps the best. Thanks for uploading!
I love Biddie, Pip would have been happier with her - but Miss Havasham had other plans and set his heart on Estella as the golden apple.
The name "Biddie" much as the name "Pip" both describes the character & sells the character short. But perhaps in the eyes of most people, that was all that they seemed to be.
"Spontaneous combustion" was supposedly a newfangled idea back then, something that happens to drunks especially, such as old Krook. For Ms. Haversham, it was just, I think, comeuppance.

Pip was kind of a jerk for creating so much drama during the funeral, methinks.

The scene with Orlick was random enough in the book. Here it's utterly out of place.

a sith Lord in a church! :-) This miniseries diverges from the novel. But it's good anyways.

Fantastic adaptation...but I always thought Estella should be blonde (chilled)
blubarton 1 year ago
@blubarton I've pictured her as a blonde since I was a kid, too, but in the book it clearly mentions her brown hair.

Dumb Orlick. He brought all his misfortunes on himself by being a wicked jerk.

I really like this version of Great Expectations, though it would have been better if they had included Mrs. Havasham's last minutes with Pip. :l

Mrs. Havisham didn't spontaneously combust, in the book her dress was set alight by a flame from a candle I believe.

Read the book again.

They were written in episodic form - that people read them each week or month and then wait for the next installment.

how did pip figure out magwitch was Estella's father?
They never really establish why Drummel is so evil - and what he ever did in front of Pip to earn him such hatred
lizziefan84 2 years ago
the mere affection and attachment of Drummle toward Estella was enough to evoke Pip's hatred toward him!

Ugh! How horrible! :-(
Remember in Bleak House, when that guy - Krook - somehow catches fire. . . is this a recurring thing in Dickens?
