wow a pocket cam that picks up all the base now im impressed, i was considering the flip until I found out thos was actually cheaper, had a bigger screen 30 minutes better battery life, and expandable memory, aswell even though it uses a lithium battery its still removeable

@Salami991 Oh yea, of course. I guess I should have been more more specific. If you take the original 720p or 1080p video off the camera and put it on Bluray, it would always look better than the lower standard DVD 480 resolution. DVD is only 720x480 but Bluray will display 1280x720 (720) and 1920x1080 (1080). Thanks for pointing out the details. Changing disc format doesn't upscale resolution. You can only go lower and lower, not the other way around. You have to start with hi-resolution. :)

@ScannerPortugal you can get spares online for $4 a piece as opposed to the $40 battery you find in the stores. Search online. @$4 it's more than worth it to buy a 3 or 4 and get it over with.

I still have the problem with the 1.06 software upgrade... all it did was get rid of the vertical lines in low light.

I recognised the area that "American Grafiti" was shot...I like the sound I can get with a field recorder outputing into my Zi8...its that input that really sets it apart.

I can confirm that this camera DOES record as good as this video shows. As a matter of fact, if this video was put on a DVD, it would look amazing. If put on Bluray, even better. Anyone thinking about buying this camera will be happy to know that it is the best choice right now, as of Dec 2009.

@princeoz17 Apparently this camera is still holding it's weight today in comparison to the Flip. Since last year, I've seem videos on something called the PlaySport by Kodak but it seems that the Zi8 is still better. In comparison to just about all other HD pocket camcorders, Kodak has the best picture quality.  I still have mine and love it. My suggestion if you get this camera is to buy an extra battery and record in 720p mode @ 60fps...this will give you amazing results.

@princeoz17 Well, there's no flash...so just make sure there is plenty of light. The picture-taking capability if really good when there is plenty of lighting...it's all about the lighting no matter what camera (just about). Bang for buck...this is the one. Oh, make sure you get a memory card for it! It doesn't come with one. :)

Hi - thought I'd add a 'video response' - same idea as this but driving around London, UK. I handheld my Zi8 but another trick is to cut a slit into a large sponge and just sit that on the dash. It's good at absorbing any vibration.

u were kinda rite about the firm ware, apperntly i was 3 versions outta date, but even with the new firmware, i didnt getta low light pic like his, Usin all the settings, The best settin for lowlite for me is wvga but its still way under this quility (obvious improvement between firmwares though)

It is. I almost got hit a week ago from the side cause some idiot ran the red light. I was in the middle of the intersection point toward north and he came from the east going 50 MPH.
