  • Dissociative trip.. After seeing "Am I dead? Buried? Alive?" I had no doubt, it was highly related to tripping on dissociatives ;)

  • this is so creepy. i like it.

  • 240p? where are we? Narnia?

  • is this about animal liberation?

  • The progressions and melodies on this album are just outstanding. Never get sick of it.

  • ok, but, what it means? the lyrcs

  • this is fkn musical genius. Godley and Creme would be blown away.

  • this sounds like Eleven! I love silverchair and now I love the dissociatives too although it's a little late :) the whole album is just stunning, full of divine melodies

  • mUST BE HIS VOCAL PITCH OR SOME SHIT BUT EVERY TIME I HEAR JOHN'S VOICE IT REMINDS ME OF MICHAEL JACKSON

  • I got it, it reminds me also oasis, in something.

  • The nananana, reminds me some songs of Kate Bush... They're wonderful, very magical.

  • Oh Daniel Johns, you crazy mother fucker.

  • can you add the lyrics to the description?

  • @kickerzin Lyrics have been added. Enjoy.

  • With videos like this, who needs drugs?

  • Whatever it is they're on...I want some. This song is awesome. "I feel root vegetable. Am I dead or buried alive?"

  • wWOW this video is tripping XD

  • Love the song, but I think the video takes away from the song

  • Best era, just after Diorama. Jeezus.

  • Daniel Johns is simply amazing ^_^

  • So are these guys singing about dissociative drugs or something?

  • @TheNeonSquirrel “The name was Paul’s suggestion and it’s a name I really connected with. It means disconnecting the physical from the mental. That’s exactly how we feel about music and what we were trying to do with our music. It’s also the name given to a relatively new class of drugs that are named dissociatives, drugs like ketamine… What we’re trying to do with our music is create the kind of feelings in our listeners that’s close to the feeling you get on ketamine.”

  • 1:00 music reminds me of Age of Empires

  • dig the sound and vids

  • What the bloody hell are content restrictions?!

  • excellent , musique et vidéo superbe

  • Speaking of the people who are not in the band but in the video....wasn't there some sort of contest to be in a Disso video around this time. It just makes sense that those people were contest winners.....

  • I really like the sound of The Dissociatives has no genericness to it and is genuinely a good listen. Peeps who dislike the work that Dan did with them they they truly have lost the sense of what it means to be a musician with the right to express your self creatively.

  • pow ficou massa esse video diferente mas muito bom

  • Just legend!

  • Clinical depression, anorexia nervosa and divorce ! Yep that would sum it up ! Gotta feed all the animals...

  • It's about lying around drinking cough syrup. The reference to being a vegetable, am I dead, buried alive, etc... are examples of the effects of dissociative drugs on the mind. He is talking about ROBOTRIPPING! Ha, I always knew he did that.

  • this is the closest aussies have gotten to the brilliant plateau the beatles reached in the Stg Peppers years. I wish more aussies had the balls to venture there.

  • I wish more American's had the balls. Here they only want to hear them sing Tomorrow...God forbid they should venture beyond that stupid grunge box they got stuck in.

  • i know thats what sucks being in the states. but YM did get a bit of radio play so if their record is done by, say the summer of next year, the very well have a chance of really cementing themselves in amercians minds

  • I think the reason silverchairs 2nd album etc didnt sell well in America after the first one hit number 8 on the billboard charts was because their record company released abuse me as the first single off freakshow and it was softer and kinda gay for a rock band for their mostly teenage and young adult market. they released freak first here. Cemetry would have done better than abuse me even though its softer as its was so good instrumentaly for guys their age.

  • i think the line is completely literal. he's the kind of guy who would work that into a song. with silverchair on hiatus he probably just sat around, tending to his pets. just a thought.

  • I'm pretty sure it's about the time he had reactive arthritis and had to be in an oxygen tent and couldn't do anything for months except lay around in pain, he couldn't even play guitar.

  • must have missed the oxygen tent one, u serious ? ; p

  • Geeze, people, he's feeding his animals, his demons.. he wasted years feeding them.. That's what he song's about..

  • @crewchief219

No, I think he's just reminiscing about growing up on a farm... on Halloween...

    His costume was a potato.

  • um...what is this???

  • This, my friend... is one mind-fuck of a song :-)

  • I agree.. =)

  • @66sssss Amazing.

  • I think his animals are a symbol for his personal life,

the song is about him doing things to make him happy.

  • why is it called horror with eyeballs?

    does it mean something?

or is it just called that to catch your eye?

    the reason escapes me...

  • na the girl in the cart isnt natalie, the three in that back cart won a competition or something on the radio to be in a dissociatives clip

also, the character with the huge fringe is the singer of the presets

  • jumpy tune =?

  • Class tune.

  • BRILLIANT

  • it sounds like 'limbless' to me

  • Yeah, it is. I wasn't listening to it when I typed that... then I heard it after I listened to it...

I just didn't feel like spamming more... =x

  • I like how the "roller coaster" is made up of hospital beds.

  • This reminds me of Aerosmith...

    Those mouth's.... =x Creepy.

  • whoa, this is grrreat!

  • All of the songs on their album had such weird lyrics, but great music. Love it.

  • Who is the lady with black hair?

  • I dunno, but it sure looks like she's enjoying the ride :-P

  • Well I'd be enjoying it too if it was with them!

  • natalie imbruglia.

  • really?

it doesnt look like her at all but

well i guess kinda with the black hair

    how do you know that?

  • who else would it be? the rest are all band members....

  • ehh i duno

im not saying its not her but it certainly doesnt look like her

  • well it is her.

  • @cottoncase I thought I read somewhere that it was Natalie Imbruglia. But I can't be certain..

I'm pretty sure it was though. They were still married when this was made, and it kind of looks like her.

  • @cottoncase i read somewhere that her and the other unknown guy on the little rollercoaster won a contest; the prize being an appearance in a dissociatives music video.. i cant remember where i read it though

  • @cottoncase I think I recall hearing or reading that it was Natalie Imbruglia. This was when they were married....I believe. Or at least when they were dating.

  • why that fuck would you watch this then?

obviously silverchair/dissociatives fans are guna read your comment.

What a dickhead, I dont really understand what youre trying to achieve.

Like Daniel Johns says if people dont like their music they just dont get it.

  • lol u like 2 piss urself off and vomit cos u watch it LOL

  • I think it´sonds a little bit like cristmas =D

    But it´s a cool sound :)

  • hey.. i think its match to be ost night before christmas..hahaha

  • i miss the dissociatives

  • cool song, very "being for the benefit of Mr. Kite" by Beatles but awesome song none the less

  • how? i dnt see any similarities..

  • Hey tippy film clip, I am just wondering you know the musicans in the film clip are two of them the Presests? cause they look a whole lot like em.

  • You're absolutely right. They are Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes from the Presets. It's funny that you mention it because I only just found out 3 days ago when someone commented on my Somewhere Down The Barrel video. Seriously freaky...

  • I knew it as soon as i saw em, ow they have like all morfed into one band and joined on to silverchair cause both paul mac and Julian helped with young mordern heheh thats cool. Aussies best working together.

  • love all of their songs,

just so nice to listen to

  • Awesome, great stuff.

  • I have no idea what the lyrics mean, but this song is very catchy!

  • It sounds like he's singing about 'inner demons'

"All of this time on my hands so far has gone to feeding my animals"

I think he's... feeding his inner demons.

The mental hospital beds "all of the time I was dead, limpless(?) in bed, sedated experiments"

So yeah, I'd assume it's about inner demons.

  • could also have something to do with his pro-animal rights stuff, him being a vegan and everything.

  • I don't know, Daniel seems to be a bit deeper than that to me Animal rights just doesn't seem too 'song worthy' especially since if you listen the other lyrics of this song... they don't seem too animal related.

I highly doubt he'd say "feeding my animals" with the intention of actually feeding animals.

Like I said, he's deeper than that I'd like to believe. He wants you to find the meaning, so the fact he flat out says that line makes me believe there's more to it, you know?

  • well i think you're right as far as it being more than animal rights haha. I'd say the animals line is an attempt to confront the listener with the almost disturbing but yet satisfying solitude and escapism that he indulged in years ago when he was really ill. People like daniel spend time living in their own heads, in worlds that i imagine are pretty fucken incredible but yeah, also kinda dangerous if you spend too much time there

  • I totally agree he's deeper in this song, than to mean the line literally, but don't rule animal rights out as not being song-worthy... don't forget Spawn Again :)

  • it's weird but i like this song

  • It's great.

  • i remember the first time i saw this video and the dissociatives, i was confused lol

    great music

  • time on my hands...

  • What Happened to the original Video for 'Somwhere down the Barrel"? It used to be on Youtube and now I cant find it anywhere !!

Does anyone have a copy they can send me?

    Would be much appreciated !

    Cheers

  • It's still on youtube. Astralwerks has it in his profile.

Type: "Astralwerks Somewhere" into the search bar.

  • love love love love love love The disso videos .. genius!

  • good album, but better with ben and chris. i think

  • totally under-rated! I love everything daniel does, there's so much diversity and versatility with his work- genius

  • I definitely agree.

  • Great!! Aren't Australian bands the best?

  • hell yeah so rad

  • Parts of this song are very similar to Tuna in the Brine. I guess it's hard to write hundreds of songs and not have some of them sound the same.

  • i agree...i reminds silverchair...

    i miss silverchair )'<

  • what do you mean you miss them its not like they have stopped playing they are still playing and sounding as funcky as ever

  • yeah...it reminds me too...

  • yeah...it reminds me too...

  • Wow really? That's my favorite Silverchair song & I haven't noticed that at all. Which part?

  • daniel johns is so talented and beautiful

  • fantastic

  • who needs drugs !

  • not only is this a damn sexy song, but the video makes me wish i was banging while on acid... which i'm sure would be amazing!

  • ..buried in mud

  • I love this song!

  • this song would fit perfectly in a tim burton movie!

  • great song. the video is quite tripy. love the sound

  • Eyeballs, Eyeballs... Everywhere Eyeballs!! ahhhhhhh... ha ha! Kicken vid, good work!

  • another wicked ass song by 2 legends...

  • It is wonderful: Daniel Johns comes on the scene as an angry youth, rebelious and brash. Only to turns into poignant, tender, and rather avant garde adult. Thank you Daniel for all of your music.....

  • is that Natalie in the video?

  • Certainly resembles her

  • Erm, Natalie that is, heh. Probably my favorite Dissociatives song, and an excellently trippy video. I love you Daniel and Paul, you guys rock!

  • lol u moron minister of hate, to say this is art but not good says more about ur taste (or lack thereof) then it does about the music

  • call me a moron all you want I dont care I still like Silverchair alot better than this band... Is my opinion thats all... Daniels voice is still incredible beautiful and amazing in this band but... I dont like the MUSIC that accompanies his voice in tihs band.

  • such a stoner video lol

  • Hahahah, true that, my friend :-D

  • ministerofhate is totally wrong anything that Daniel Johns writes and releases is a work of art...even though u can tell that while making this video clip he was high... :D

    Shibby!

  • i love it!

  • just because this is ORIGINAL and ARTISTIC doesnt mean is GOOD ... I never thought Id say this but Daniel Johns needs to lay off the drugs... But this band does sound better than new Silverchair (for what its worth lol)

  • some of the best albums ever made were written when people were on drugs- ie: Beatles' Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band & also Jimi Hendrix's Axis Bold as Love

  • it was a JOKE lol since everyone thinks he's high out of his mind all the time I do drugs myself. and I wrote that 8 months ago since then I've cahnged my mind about this band and I like more than half the cd now theres still a cpl tracks I dont like however but its all good

  • John's Mayer's cover of "axis bold as love is pretty good"

  • SOYA!!!

  • kicks ass

  • I must have played this 50 times now! Tehee!

  • haha it's awsome, daniel freaking amazes me all the time.

  • this video and song are just too amazing for words. perfectly captures that mood between being awake and asleep.

  • well that song is actually great!

  • probably the best dissociatives song

  • yeah, definitely

  • now he's lookin' like justin timberlade i hate justin 'n' this music i s lookin' stange to me 'n' i hope the silver come back soon.

  • are you f**king kidding me ?
