  • I do have to say the rotary from mine was a waste, still ran and I took it to a scrap yard and got a full $40 out of it. May be enough to pay for my new gaskets.

  • Comment removed

  • The sound of a V8 and the look of an Rx-7 just doesn't go well with me.

  • i like doing v8 swaps in rx7s,240sx, supras its awesome and it says fuck

you, usa rules to jdm stuff.

  • Cunts need to get a set of nuts about themselves. What, you didnt follow the flock of sheep with their shitty unreliable and torque-less rotors so it is shit? Fucking whinging pussies. Well done bro, sounds tough, and you managed to be unique at the same time. Besides, you can always transplant a 13b back in anytime you feel like chewing through fuel and blowing seals.

  • @ericandtegan Though wouldn't you be better off buying an actual Mustang, Camaro, etc. etc.? I'm just being a realist here.

  • @Ryoukun16 I wouldnt disagree with that, but as if the car modifying scene in general isnt full of "wouldnt you be better off" It just shits me that he was getting so much bullshit from people in the midst of their menstrual cycle. I think a car that size and weight would be sweet with v8 torque, not enough to do something similar myself, but the next buyer will get it at a good price.

  • gay. gay

  • Pretty cool. I don't get why all these fanboys are getting upset over this, it's just customization. I think mixing and matching like this is a good concept, like that fella who put a turbo charged 4 cylinder from a European Ford in his '59 Edsel. Why did he do it? Because that's what was laying around, an Edsel, and a 4 cylinder. And guess what? It worked. I don't think there's a household in America that doesn't have at lease one SBC.

Personally though, I would have used a Ford 300-6.

  • LOL all the haters on here just wish they had the knowledge it took to make this conversion. It's a little thing called custom, guess some never heard of it.

  • @bsmithbum not custom, grannyspeedshop sells the kit to bolt it right in. Knowledge is learning about rotary engines and learning what a rx-7 is all about. This is the, "Fuck it, i don't understand how to work on it, or fix it, just put a SBC in it and be done." way.

  • Three words - "lead-tipped arrow".

  • Honestly though,a new engine from mazda isn't really all that expensive,so little was saved in doing this.It was a lot of work and added a huge amount of weight over the front axle. But I'm sure the silliness and fun factor was worth it though!

  • People, read, his engine was toast. He decided to put in a v8. Good for him. Now, he has the low end torque we all love. a rotary can make power, and so can a v8. i have a 12a sitting in my room, but that doesnt mean a v8 is a "valve bouncing junk".A rotary wishes it had the power of a top fuel. anyways, for all you people who insist a rotary is japanese, do some research. Wankel was german, he made the rotary we all know today along with many other inventions like rotating vales, etc its german

  • I'm an 84 RX-7 owner with 99k miles on his 12a. It purrs like a kitten and It make a sound that just speaks to me. I understand the desire to get more power. I don't understand is all the steel and the loss of the 50/50 weight distribution. Maybe if it was an aluminum block ............... like the LS1.

  • SBC is the best thing to happen to that car....

  • (POS) peice of shit ,get that valve bouncing junk out of there put something that makes real power, tringles

  • @mazdagine

    What's a tringle?

  • LMAO that v8 is the best thing that could have replaced that junk 12a

I can have an opinion too, as ive had them all. 12a is a pathetic, gutless rubber band job that couldnt pull the foreskin off a dead man!!!!

  • @oscarhollywood agree m8 rep the v8s!! fuck the jap crap

  • @oscarhollywood and the 12a is junk so the v8 must be garbage because there is a video on here where a v8 with over 200hp more then the 12a lost :)

  • Plus ive seen PLENTY of 13bt's with Massive amounts of torque

  • dude i owned 2 of these cars and that is the funniest thing i have ever seen, massive 8cyl in a little 1 ton rotar... sounds awesome but its so fkn wierd lookin at a rx7 and hearing an 8... lol mad.

  • RX.......8???

  • I am doing the same swap myself currently on an 83. Bought it with a siezed rotary. Was not worth rebuilding. Came across the drivetrain out of a 94 Trans Am, and the rest, as they say, will soon be history. To all the haters, bring on the rotary and lets see who gets better mileage, who is more reliable, who can get parts when needed, and who has TORQUE.

  • @NytMuves TORQUE TORQUE TORQUE. who Cares about TORQUE! All that is, is the amount of Work the is required to get a Object into Motion. Horsepower Is the Amount of work to KEEP that Object in Motion! V8s are over rated I know I have a 2004 Ford Falcon Cobra. The Amount of Horsepower/Liter in a V8 is small compared to the 13b. its 1.3l compared to a 5.0 or Higher. yes they are Fragile engines If built tuned WRONG. But to each his/her own. I am a ford Girl But I love the rotary as well.

  • @Feralspirit15 hahaha you're full of shit

  • rotary engines > v8's. gawwwww. and this is coming from a guy that owned a 1970 torino. for real though. i never understood V8 swaps. i now own a 1991 mazda FC3S and wouldnt give up my 13B for the world.

  • yeah its a no wonder you have traction issues. that rear diff and hub size isn;t designed for a heavy ass torque monster. you runined a perfectly good handleing car. i would hate to see this thing perform at an autocross.

  • @hotmazda14

Apparently you lack the ability to read. This swap only adds about a hundred pounds to the car and does not effect the balance more than a percent or three. This can be fixed by moving the battery to the rear. The handling is UNCHANGED. I really hate it when an ignorant numb nuts spouts off about something which the obviously know very little.

  • Rx7 without a rotor is gay......

  • fuck these guys comments!I have a 87 with a 13b T wanna talk about a weak powerband....do your thing bro.If I had the time I would do a v8 swap myself.

  • Fuck these idiot rotards. They don't seem so realize some people don't want to rebuild the rotary and want to go a different route. Most swapped cars are on their last limb usually way before 100k miles. I've owned a 1988 T2 lt1 v8 rx7 and now am a proud owner of a 1988 SE with 5bolt and t2 rear..cammed ls1 with nitrous soon. It sits in at 2760 with about 5 gallons of gas.

Keep enjoying the mix of Japanese handling and light weight, with the power of american v8s!!

  • @rifkenstein wank on bout your v8 you hillbilly, think of it like putting a rotary engine in a honda...its wrong. end of story

  • Not a waste if you enjoy it. Getting ready to do one myself. Siezed rotory. I can put a 5.0 in it for 1/3 the cost of a rebuild on the rotory. And I end up with 3X the torque and 2X the horsepower. More if I mod the V8. How is that a waste?

  • @NytMuves get a 20b

  • it wou;dve been better with a rotary engine

  • Sounds like my truck lol.

  • Wicked indeed. Rotary, V8 w/e this is a good mix, a nice car with a nice engine.

  • Fantastic as there is no replacement for displacement. Although I would have to use a 351 cleveland because The car deserves to have a blue oval instead of wearing a bowtie on it's grille.

  • @xtpuller Well i have to disagree Cuz real Motors have Rotors And i dnt wana Be Fucked.On.Race.Day (Ford) also only bitches were bowties

  • What a waste of a good 12a

  • no, 13b.

  • @sbcrx007 I Bought a mint Gen 1 with a toasted motor and decided to rebuild it. It looks great but has constant problems and when it does run right its still only a high 13 second car. Wish I would have just dropped a V8 in it! Its way cheaper than a Turbo Rotary and you actually seem to gain handling actually having something other than a lawn mower engine under the hood.

  • and nothing was good about it.. it was toast. Nothing left of the apex seals, and the housings were gouged when the seals went. So no, it was not a wast of anything. I saved the car from being crushed, is that not enough?

  • @sbcrx007

i am with you on that i have a rx7 that had a 12a in it that i dropped a 400hp sbc in it for the same reason the 12a was toast it would not even spin over so why not go bigger right lol cheers

  • how would u know if it was good? Why would u think he would swap a good rotary for a piston? idiot.

  • only a yankie could be so retarded as to put a V8 in an Rx7. Jeez man, fail harder. The point of the car is to be light and nimble, with good handling. Now youve turned it into just another musclecar that cant handle to save its life.

  • Incorrect. But anyway, if you were to drive it, you'd like it. =)

  • adding a v8 adds MAX 200lbs to the car, plus the reliability and power for a low price is spectacular.

  • GARBAGE!!!!!!!

  • Exactly . . . ;)

  • This RX is now soiled with filth in the engine bay . . .

Its value is now reduce to nill.

  • I think not. It's ridiculously fun to drive =)

  • Now i dont doubt that for a second,

if you take away all the engine leegion matters.

The SA/FB have some encredibly beutiful lines, dont way anything at all and is a very adictive car,

    i know i love mine. :)

  • @sbcrx007 Well what i ment was that it was kind of blasfemic to remove the Rotary engine.

  • @FunteX even more so to take out the rotary and put a V8

  • @gooowne Yeah, its sacriligeous.

  • @sbcrx007 instead of soiling the engine bay as funteX quite rightly put it, why didnt you put a 20b in it

  • @gooowne do you know how much 20b's cost? it makes a V8 a much more attractive option

  • actually v8 rx7 sell for more than rotary powered ones

  • Sure, since they are easier to build and maintain.. ;)

  • =-D lol

  • @FunteX Their value is nill anyways... My buddy bought his rex with a good (if you can call it that) rotory engine, working tranny, very little body damage for 1100 bucks. Tossed a built 302 in, twin turbo and he sold it for 7 grand... So when you say its worth nill... your uneducated and should be put down like a bitch :P

  • @Frostknight86 ^Well thats were you are wrong, and fail to apreciate them. Cheers. ;)

  • not an rx7 but i do have a b2000 with a v8 305 it is for sale currrently not running anyone wanna buy it?

  • @mikeys316 no ^^

  • yea i kept my rotary just cause i love it. sure i can always do an LS swap, but that takes out the point of RX. RX7 stands for Rotary Experience. on top of that, none of my friends know rotary, so i share my knowledge and feel cool hahah jk

  • WHY WHY WHY.... well i guess some poeple like to have a japanese style Corvette....

  • why not?

  • Because its a retarded idea for one.

  • what's a better idea?

  • Fucking your mum

  • taken the fun right of the mazda bro

  • unless of course the engine was either already really sick or blown

  • Engine was toast, I rescued this 7 from certain scrapyard fate. And yes, they can be just as fast with the rotary...

  • well at least you didnt pull a brand new rotory out lol the v8 swap seems to be popular with the rotories

    i have a 1g 12a personallymine is a 81

  • cool build man! way to keep another one on the streets! im a rotary fan myself but would like to try a v8 someday.

  • not trying to offened because everyone has there interests but why swap v8? there just as quick with the 1.1 or 1.3

  • I have a friend who is heavy into the rx-7 and more specifically V8 rx-7's, and I asked him this same question. He said the power delivery of the V8 and power potential with the V8 is all around better than the rotary. He also said that a well done V8 swap that used a new mint motor will be far and beyond more reliable than the old rotary and creates a better all around car.

Thats his two cents, and it all makes sense to me.

  • well the point of the rx7's with 12a engine which is the 2 rotor engine wasnt necessarily power and speed they were built for balance and handling hence why they came stock with lsd in the gsl models 1979 - 1985 they were built for drifting since yes they arent fast at all with the 12a but they are like 50 50 balance not exactly but its close enough they also didnt have power steering 79 - 84 mines an 81

  • Oh, no i agree with you. Thats what I said to him. But, more power never hurt either I guess.

But, for me its all about the handling and having fun in the twisties. I own a '93 Miata, so I know all about what 50/50 distribution and light weight can do. I've never had more fun in any car than I've had in my Miata.

  • lol miata xD hope your a hair dresser dude.

  • hahahahahha dude my gay uncle drives a miata hahahaha

  • Nice. I'm a rotard, but V8 swaps do look fun :)

  • awesome 5/5 , check out my rx-7 , i also have a 93 ford probe gt 2.5L 'mazda' v-6 , and a mazda 323, might be getting a 92 626 soon too

  • u sik fuk

  • =) thx

  • thats no rotary mate

  • no shit

  • rotary for life

  • ahhh nooo you should had left the rotary engine on thats the point of an rx 7 rigth?

  • It was blown, the housings were junk...

  • what motor was in it and what done to the motor

  • Its a chevy 5.0 from a monte ss. Headers, cam, valve springs.. thats about it.

  • my page is done!

  • alguien me puede decir que modificaciones se ase para montarle un v8 a mi mazda rx 7 85. es igualito a eseee se los agradeceria

  • Sandbag the ass and dirt track it maybe?

  • I have an 86 fc and the rear end want to come around the front every time I feather the throttle during city driving it feels awsome but lots of close calls

  • Sounds like V8 engines!^^

  • thats fuckin

  • GAAAAAAAWDAMMNNNN

  • Bad

  • Ass

  • What kinda or power level do you think your running at? What size of tires are you running?

  • grannysspeedshop will explain you every thing you need to know about weight distribution mr road and track

  • nice my rx7 is all stock with the 12a in it. 97000km on it and excellent shape. i love the car.

  • i have a completly rebuilt and street ported 12a sitting in my garage right now...for sale bud. ;) $600 or best offer. hit me up on aim @ hotmazda14 if you're intrested.

  • ignorant fuckers...all this does is prove you dont know shit about cars. you have fucked up the cars 50/50 weight balance. and if you were smart you would swaped to a 20b or 26b and had nearly TWICE the power with HALF the displacement.....i'm going to buy a chevelle or an old mustang and shove a honda v-tec in it and we'll see how that makes all you pricks feel. its an RX-7, not a PX-7.

  • Yeah, if I was smart.. I'd love to put in a 20b, or even a fresh 13b, but didn't have the money. Feel free to donate =) I think it's funny that people have this huge problem with switching powerplants... this car would be in the junkyard if I hadn't picked it up. If you want to take an american muscle car and put some Japanese power to it, good for you, why not?

  • haha more power to you i have 2 rx-7s myself one is getting a stock 12a the other is getting a 350 i love rotary far more than a piston engine but gotta love that v8 rumble :P "GLUG GLUG GLUG GLUG" whether its a rotary ro not rather see it back on the streets than rotting rx-7 is da greatest!

  • Hmmm, my 13b is as noisy as this, is that a bad thing?

Ok, I'm kidding. There is something to be said for feeling the rumble through your seat. You don't get that in a rotary. But I agree, the way they designed the 50/50 weight, it really makes me love my RX-7. I get my rumbles from my Porsche 930 turbo. Can't throw that car around like my Rex, she will bite you in the ass big time. Both great cars, The Porsche is better suited for the track. The Rex I can go nuts in any time.

  • agreed, both have their merits. I also like the sound of both, they're both intoxicating.. Although the 5.0 is a lot easier on your ears, seriously!

  • @hotmazda14

You are obviously a big mouth douche. Try reading a little before you shoot off your uninformed mouth. It does very VERY little to the weight distribution. The V8 sits back further than the rotary, and the rotary is MUCH heavier than it looks. It only changes weight distribution by about a percent, which is easliy rectified by moving the battery to the rear. If you use an aluminum V8 with heads the weight difference is less than 70 pounds between the stock rotory and the V8.

  • fairly.. rebuilt w/ bigger cam and valve springs

  • very nice job!is that a stock engine?

  • NOT BAD AT ALL

  • seems like you have plenty of traction, especially for street tyres...
