The writing in The Wire is fucking amazing. This single event unleashed great deal of season 4 story arc: Lex killing fruit is mentioned in the wiretap, this leads Bunk and Freamon to discover the bodies in the vacants; Little Kevin telling Randy about Lex's death, then Randy snitching.
In the commentary, David Simon mentions that some of the guys in the scenes with Marlo were just some random guys they saw out there that wanted to be in the scene. He said that a lot of times, they would film people dealing on the corners just for footage in the show. At first the dealers were nervous about it until they realized that they aren't the police or anything and they're just filming for the show.

Same as Avon and Stringer. Like Poot said, one boss is the same as the next.
Lex is so detached from the murder, he might as well have been swatting a fly. He does the deed and goes home without any emotion, like the Terminator hunting down his victims. He became so obsessed with Patrice that he lost all perspective. This is what I always liked about The Wire, the realism in portraying inner city life and how people are killed over ridiculous issues. There's a lot of men in prison and graveyards for stupid things like this, murdering another man over an ex-girlfriend.
That shot of snoop standing in the shadows ( 4:55 ) is iconic. Forget horror movies you want a real scare? That shot is it. I couldn't imagine walking into a playground and seeing that.
