This recording raises so many questions about the timeline of events when Chuck left and Patton arrived. I wonder if there was a brief window where FNM were rehearsing with both (and maybe more?) just to see what worked.
@antennavillain Excellent observations! FNM has never communicated well with their fans, leaving us to piece together the bands history through rumor and conjecture. If I could pick any member of the band to write their biography it would hands-down be Billy. He's an original member and is regarded as the sane one who held the band together. He also oversaw the various greatest hits compolations and (rumor has it) has recordings of every show FNM ever played. I'd love to see his basement!
The ONLY thing I don't like about this was how I didn't hear it in '01, '03, '07.... oh and also how Mr Bordin is SO close to what a theoretical GOD could be on drums, that no-one IMO has ever matched it... Mike, your voice was raw pain and rage and hope, this was in so many ways the definitive FMN song, it's so sad we loungers with a pash have to scrounge the YouTubes to find it!
But hey - f*cking GREAT - AMAZING - If I haven't made that clear enuff! :-P
Everybody like as many Faith No More vids at once for the next few weeks. Because when you "LIKE" a video and even add it to your Favorites, it make the video appear on the front of YouTube for all your subscribers. With as many people that are watching Faith No More videos we could flood the front of YouTube with Faith No More videos :) Copy and repost this idea in other FNM vids to get the idea around. Even if it lasts over time, FNM always needs to be front and center.
Really interesting stuff. FNM was a band that I didn't want to like (kind of a euro-metal purist at the time, lol) but the music was so good I had no choice.
I used to have a proper recording of this tune on a cassette, but I've never found it since. To make things worse, I don't recall who gave me the tape. The tune's missing from Who Cared a Lot, and from Fool's Victory (rarities and b-sides).
@MrZardoz777 I have the studio version on "This Is It - The Best Of Faith No More". Not sure if it was released internationaly, I have the Australian release. Hope that helps dude
@rounder421 Thanks, now I get it . . . someone gave me a cassette years ago and when the song didn't appear on the rarities and best-ovs collections, I assumed my version came from some mysterious source.
Here' s hoping we get a studio album after all ;)
yea i found them singing this live i dl it by accedent thingin it was the mp3 but its the live video and its on youtube i know i cant find it maybe they took it off im gonna put it on here soon
Incredible Stuff!! - (So, these 4-trax are on the Remastered version of The Real Thing, right?) - Indeed, I really can't understand why they haven't played this song Live??
@dagnaste01 I have a hard time believing that Patton actually wrote all the lyrics (except The Real Thing - the song) for The Real Thing, they're just SO different from the other albums!
Anyway, I never heard this song live, did they ever play it live? If not, it's a shame, cause it's a great song.
@dominamaris He wrote all the lyrics for The Real Thing within a week while staying in a San Fran hotel. All the music for the album was written before he joined. They took a radically different approach while writing every other album, which is why they all sound so different
maybe didnt make The Real Thing because the start is a bit too much like "Epic" with the F G A progression. except "Epic" is in E minor. same progression.
Shows you how far they came from this to the Real Thing.
I'm a huge Faith No More fan and just when I think I've heard everything, I stumble across something like this. The Cowboy Song is quite possibly my favorite song by them, so this was really cool to hear. Thanks for posting it!
One heck of a find you have!! Crazy funny how much Billy sounds like Mike. It's available on the Live at Brixton Academy import with the full production value. Supposedly it was supposed to be on The Real Thing but didn't make it for whatever reason.
@deadline27 My total mistake. I misread your description and thought it said it was a demonstration FOR Mike.. as in like to show him what they were doing at that point.
i'm just glad that they're back&touring! this July they're coming to Novi Sad, to EXIT festival!! one of the best bands eVAR in MY HOMETOWN!! i'm hyped! Can't wait! thumbs up for the video, I always love listening to bootlegs and Bsides(from any band, for that matter) after being a fan for a long time- it gives you an idea of how the song came to what they are, etc.. peace!
such a cool song.. oh so unappriciated, both by the artists and the crowd.. I guess cause it didn't fit into THE REAL THING nor did it fit into ANGEL DUST.. shame..

It's infinitely more raw...but this is my favorite FNM song, and the drums have such a tribal power...awesome.
