  • Awesome! Congratulations! That's creativity. And good results.

  • Ok, I absolutely love it! And yes it is ridiculous and a bit impractical. Which leads me to my question; If you're going through all this trouble to take a better looking photo, but either you or your client won't spend the cash for an assistant to keep your lights mobile. Aren't you really just busting your ass to devalue your going rate?

  • awesome! :D

  • This has made my day, lol.

It's so classic, near classy, loving it!!!

It's a crazy set-up, but logical and it works great!

  • Stromantis.

  • Did you try aluminum hollow rods instead of steel? It should make the set up a bit lighter... you could also put a portable weight on the opposite side. It would be more weigt but would give you more balance... ; )

  • Good idea and love that you see the nerdy ness of it.

  • Very handy when you have no photo assistant. Love it, especially the nerd aspect. Whatever gets great photos!

  • Pay an assistent!

  • i like the name strobist jetpack... hey unpack the jetpack

  • the Stroba Fett!

  • This video is great, and funny!

  • the only lack is the ambience light (f.e. sky or the sun from behind someone) thats what in my opinion makes the good outdoor strobe pictures....

  • I'm so very embarrassed for you.

  • nice concept i did never seen something like that before :) ....

    good job

  • Really good idea ^^

  • Strobateer!

  • ROFL awesome!

  • good thinkin 99! :)

  • Damn did you lose a bet?

  • Mom: one of our chairs in the dining room is missing.

Son: Gotta go to school ma i think its gonna rain hard. (walks gently outside the house wearing an odd looking back pack with an odd looking umbrella on top of his head without holding it)

  • I think I'll try this... looks like something I'll do an use...

  • MUY PUTO...

  • Strobist Third Arm, STA, pronounced stay

  • amazing !

  • The end justifies the means!

  • Strobist DorkRail.

  • One good thing is your subjects will always be smiling!! You look ridiculous! haha. It works though!!

  • cool you look like an idot but i works (Y)

  • Very Cool,,, Alot of pros a lot of cons but THE concept is very unique! There are plenty of movement situations that this would be very useful:) The future!!! keep up the creative process!

  • LOVE it!

  • Whatever gets the job done :)

  • Hahaha!! You're the man! Very creative my friend.

  • cool!

  • LOLLL!!! awesome

  • Brilliant idea!

  • Cool idea, and I'm not sure if you should have made such a joke about it? Something like this could be produced commercially.

  • I"m digging that!!!!

  • pretty cool.

  • the greatest invention since the slice bread !

    go strobist

  • so yeah... will you marry me? lol i love the idea.

  • very cool idea

  • yeah ...!!

I thought about that more than once ....

It just looked tooooooo ridiculous .....

but I'm sure it works fine ..!!!

    Well done...!!!!

  • What did you use to edit the video ? and how did you get the cool speech bubbles ? really wanna do that :)

  • Interesting idea and execution, but I think instead of working on your engineering, you should work on your photography. The images you showed here are quite honestly pretty terrible, in my opinion.

  • @Orcinus24x5

    Troll much?

He was showing the execution of it in a mobile set up. Get off your high horse.

  • Awesome!

  • I almost broke my camera in half making a flash bracket that does just this. Wish I'd thought of this instead! Really great idea.

For everyone who thinks it's dumb - go out and do some really dynamic portraiture. Sometimes an aide will cut it, other times they would just get in they way.

  • Just awesome!

  • An assistant would cost you $200/day. Are you really such rock-bottomer that you need this clunky device instead????

  • @patrykrebisz Strobists are all about being cheapskates as much as possible. They won't even offer their friends a 6-pack of brewskies to lend a hand.

  • @patrykrebisz Have you got $200 to pay someone everyday you just want to go out shooting for yourself ??

I think its great he's trying things, thats how we learn.

  • Its like that helmet version....simply love it !!!

  • Yeah. You can use it. Or just get a sexy assistant girl, to hold the flash.

  • @Raza3D Yes. I prefer your option. :p

  • ALIEN LIGHT !!! lol

  • I have a Jetpack, can you add strobes on it ? XD I wanna be a flying strobist !

  • ha ha I thought this idea is pretty cool but at the same time I find it so funny.

  • Haha neat! I thought of doing this with a Bowens Explorer 1500 pack and a 3KM mini head but then got lazy cause the Explorer is freakin' heavy

  • hahaha I just came across your vid and this is great idea ! looking fwd for the most updated version of your creation! greetings from MX

  • too funny

  • rofl.

seriously. you could put someone's eye out.

  • Love it :D

Definately something to think about :D

  • Well, when it rains you can change your umbrella to go over your head so you stay dry ... Other then that, get an assistant really ...

  • ROFL - It looks amazing and i hope you gonna win a price for it.

  • TTL?

  • Comment removed

  • @hingsberg hahaha..i hope so. lol

  • i can't believe there is really have one lol looking forward your next version can bring you to sky rofl

  • So cool!!!

  • Nice setup , gonna try to build one

  • Great idea

  • I always seem to blow out faces with the off camera flash, or not brighten them enough. Is is simply something I need to practice, or?

  • GREAT STUFF >>> :)

  • I love geek photographers, so inventive!

  • thats why I use an assistant.. lol

  • I LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

  • #LOL nice

  • Great!

  • I think this is truly awesome and not ridiculous at all! When you don't have an assistant and you really want portability this would be awesome. Especially good for interior shots in darkened rooms.

  • jet pack!!!!

  • Excellent! I'm gonna head out and build one myself. I imagined something like this earlier, but it seemed a lil too ungainly.

  • I Love innovation like this! Good job!

  • ...brilliant...a bit goofy looking maybe, but Brilliant - especially the "jet pack" tag!

  • This thing is so ...

    Damn, I need it !

By the way, I wouldn't get out with it on a windy day.

  • wow.

    u're jenius!!

  • Ridiculously smart!

  • awesome

  • Honestly that is a fabulous idea! (and absolutely ridiculous)

  • get laid much?

  • Hey all, if you want to get this song go to tubemusicdownload com

  • Great setup!

  • best thing ever!

  • Nice! A pipe-grid backpack. Ingenious!

  • this is GREAT!

  • this is creativity!

  • I love this.

  • Genius!

  • LOL Love this vid. Great job mate :)

  • this is so rediculous and awesome at the same time I can't decide if I want to laugh at you, or copy you. Nice job.

  • haha..dude u hv got strobe wings..this is very innovative though...i think its gonna work

  • What program did you edit this on, looks really professional

  • Aha - I was considering rigging up something like this during the workshop in Mexico, but I'm glad to see it's already been done, and well.

    -/\/

  • great!:D

  • friggin brilliant!

  • Amazing!!!

  • Dr. Octostrobe?

  • @petertwang LMAO!

  • good idea

  • thats just toooooo rediculous looking dude!

  • _PORTABLE SLAVE 1.0_

  • Comment removed

  • Haha. Like a one-man orchestra. What's missing is the drum on the back, harmonica and kazoo in front of your face and a guitar flung around your shoulder. Then you could make music at the same time.

  • very good idea, but... have u think in one assistant?? : )

  • i would like to see a gust of wind come by

    hahaha

    :)

  • You are funny! Well done!

  • Hahahaha that is absolute genius!!!

  • very good idea!!!

    what about "flashback"??

  • Paint the tube frame in black or flat-black, you gone see how the looks change.

And other photographer will ask to you where you buy it!

    Nice!

  • Funny idea

  • Really?

    Everyone thinks this is cool?

    Buy a portable ring

use a off camera cable release

this is a waste of time, money, plus you don't look cool.

    Hey I like the video.

  • "this is a waste of time, money, plus you don't look cool."

such a Pathetic thing to say-- You don't look cool-- Yeah but he got some pretty good shots and is being innovative. You're worried about how ya look....what a FOOL! Sheeeesh!

Nice job dude keep up the videos and experiments!!

  • Amazing in my opinion. Gotta try that!

  • i would love to see you trying to tilt this flash yourself :D

  • Genius - pure genius!

I'll use it at my next wedding!

  • Vc tem que postar mais videos sobre Strobist, com dicas e materiais que usam.. vc manda muito bem!

    Abraços ...

    Made In Brazil

  • creative and smart and very funny

  • I want one.

  • if you could make it spring loaded, so it looks like a regular backpack until you press a button and the umbrella pops out... that would be hilarious plus awesome. just depress the shutter, and out pops the flash...

not to say it isnt pretty awesome as is.

  • Very cool!!!!

  • Superb, superb, superb !!!

but don't go on a busy street or even cross a road!

  • haha!!! cool !

  • Ridiculously Ingenious!

    Thanks for demonstrating. Great work.

  • HIJACKASTROBE for stealing my thoughts (-:

  • well done :D

  • hahhaa man myself and the other guys at teh studio always joked about doing this

we said it would be like

GO GO GADGET FLASH lol hahah wow cant beleive u did it

  • Very Cool!

How id you post this video? AE for the texts?

  • the name should be StroPet

  • oh my god, this is so cool, I want that, but I don't think I can use it on street like you though...

  • LOL

  • flashpack? ;) lol..

  • Pretty creative, but Alzo Digital makes a setup so you can use their portable softbox, or use an umbrella, and it's much more portable than this. You can find the setup on Ebay, search for Alzo Digital.

  • Absolutely brilliant,, you stold my idea !

I didn't think of the umbrella on it though

You can defenetly stelt down the frame to a strap.

    I am impressed!

  • haha brilliat!

    strobo-backpack

  • Awesome!

  • that is so great! it's even better that you took some good photos in the process. so funny.

  • Gary Fong has a wanker-patent on those already.

  • Classic!

  • Gotta admit, it's original. You just re-defined the phrase "portable studio lighting."

  • It might work like a double "Armbars" in crowded settings. (Arm bar is a wrestling move, where you hook the other guys neck with the inside of your elbow) Anyway nice fun video!

  • hahah...this is so funny I might just have to make one.....my wife is going to kill me.

may the strobe be with you. lol

  • Ironman haha

  • the spiderstrobe!!

  • stroboframe

  • Very funny, creative and smart.

  • hahahah, very thoughful :P

  • I thought the word "Nerd" is bad enough. This reach a new low.

  • thats great :)

  • Grasshopper. The nickname.

  • yo i am going to this out on the street

  • hey dude.

what lens are you using for these shots?

  • name it "octopus" !!! ;-)

  • Nice innovation (the mark of a good Strobist). :)

  • That's a great ide!:) It could be fast but it isn't blocking you during move?

I'm using a "tuned" microphone stand with umbrella adapter...all made by home:)

  • That's utterly ridiculous, yet brilliant at the same time. It's remarkable how often those two traits coincide.

What's the song you are using in the video?

  • very cool!!

  • fuck that I'm not wearing this shit around

  • At least it would keep your models smiling. They wouldn't be able to help it.

  • this is jokes but i love it, im tempted to try an make it :P

  • Do you have a plan to make something for shooting giraffes?

  • A softbox might be better in the wind (or one of those Gary Fong things). Still, this awesome!

  • those arent pocket wizards they are "poverty wizards"

  • That's why the "wink" was there maybe...

  • one question!!, That software you uses for the video edition?

  • very cool idea just dont see how youd get good use off of the pocketwizards, theres very little distance between you and the flash.

  • You should with a Segway too.

  • mad but brilliant!

  • Pretty good idea!

  • Answer to first question- light stands, but i do like your idea very original!!!

  • I think taking pictures is not what I end up doing in my involved projects, at the end of the day, I've created different ways to configure equipment to achieve an end resul
