@HurinBelgor - No. We're suppose to be a Constitutional Republic where 1% of the people cannot override the 99% of the people. In a Democracy, 51% get to control the other 49% In the form of huge governments and democracies, the government gives you your rights and can take them away just as easily.
We don't have much for inalienable rights anymore. This will need to change someday.
@rjisinspired For crying out loud go and get an education. The US is a constitutional republic, it's representatives are also democratically elected, it is therefore also a democracy. Constitutional republic and democracy are not mutually exclusive terms.
@Keruaran - First I made one mistake and the line was suppose to read: "99% cannot override the 1%" Secondly: "We use to be a Constitutional Republic" - past tense.
We are represented? If this was the case we wouldn't have the problems we currently have and the people would not be so afraid of their own government and have lesser rights. Your statement about my education is moot. In a Democracy you have lesser rights.
"it's representatives are also democratically elected"
Your thinking is just wrong. Democracy has nothing to do with a system where you give the power to few people to decide on your behalf.
Democracy is "dimos"(=The people) and "kratos"=power. Where the people have the power.
Democracy is where the people are (and should) taking the responsibility to be well educated(not trained), informed, and obliged to care for the public. Then be a part of the decisions and justice.
Sorry about the reposting. For some strange reason my text had been cut off twice after replying. 3 times the charm I guess.
