The US and EU have colonized or bought the governments of almost all Muslim countries, leaving only non-state actors to avenge its aggression in Muslim countries mainly Palestine, then Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, etc.

So like the Afghan song goes, "the word is the word of the sword until the wrongs are righted".

@1999temp Turkey is not a "Muslim" country because not only does it NOT rule by Islamic law, it is fiercely AGAINST all Islamic laws and practices in its strictly secular constitution.

It is stated in the Qur'an that Muslims must live by Islamic law, so when a society is to be held accountable for its actions it must be clear what kind of society it is. And in Turkey's case, it was a STRICTLY secular society looking to leave its Islamic past behind and used Europe as the model for its future. It changed its language and culture entirely to try and achieve this.

The Human Development Index found that the number of books translated into Arabic yearly is no more than 330, or one-fifth of those translated in a small country like Greece(shocking). The total number of books translated into Arabic during the 1,000 years since the age of Caliph Al-Ma’moun(9th Century Arab ruler) to this day is less than those translated in Spain in one year(tragedy).

Firstly: Arabic is a language. Islam is a religion. All Muslims do not speak Arabic, in fact; Arabs are less than 40% of the global Muslim population. So the number of books translated to Arabic says nothing about the literacy of the entire Muslim civilization.

@esiosan I'm not sure what statistics you're looking for, but we can compare the one society which has implemented Islamic law, Iran with the other Muslim majority countries that are largely secular.

Iran's rate of scientific growth is ELEVEN times faster than the world average. It has the highest rate of scientific growth in the entire world and MUCH faster than any Muslim majority country. It launched a satellite in 09. . Source: newscientist.

Now on the recital of the Qur'an it is not only in their own language, but also in Arabic. Generally Arabic is divine language and Muslims try to learn it.I concede that I could learn more about your culture, can you suggest a good book or documentary?

Secondly: The number of books printed in a nation is proportional to some level to the population of that nation. So 1000 years ago, the population of Spain today may damn well have been the entire population of the world.

You'll have to do better than that, champ. Islam revolves around reading books, not watching TV and eating junk food. From the Qur'an to the Hadiths to science. The Prophet has told us to go as far as China to seek knowledge. We only have to go back to the fundamentals.

Second: You mentioned Caliph Al Ma'mun, and rambled on about how Islam is impeding "progress" in Muslim countries.
