William Wallace was from a high family and not a commoner. He was reported as stealing beer with the English a year before Stirling Bridge. He did kill the sherrif but his wife never existed. That was added a 100 years later.
Joined by Andrew Murray who had allready beaten the English in previous skirmishes. Murray more than likely was the brains behind the pair of them. Murray was killed at Stirling so Wallace became the named champion.
