  • @tmcfadden100: Quite the contrary! This IS the fruit of Vatican II where the altar is turned around, the priest face the parishioners, and worship is reflective of the people! The Mass itself has not changed; therefore, this Church and its worship is still Catholic and in compliance with Rome. Fr. Michael Pfleger is the poster child for Vatican II!!! Under his leadership, the Faith Community of St. Sabina is a bright light of Christ in the world! Alleluia!

  • @tmcfadden100 your attitude is why the Roman Catholic Church is on the decline around the world. The "Traditional Ways" have never worked for African-Americans. African-Americans, Africans, and Latinos are more spiritual and want more than the same old boring mass. That is why the Protestant (Holiness) churches are making inroads in Africa/South America. Something has got to change, and I think the Vatican is realizing that fact.. You, and the like are Dinosaurs

  • Although this is dance in praise of God apparently, it is not liturgically licit in the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church. Check out the rubrics for the Mass in the General Instruction for the Roman Missal. It spells out what is to be done and by whom.

  • I hope this isn't supposed to be a Catholic Mass. Is it?

  • What I find kinda funny about some of the negative comments is this. If one would go to any Mass where the Pope preside, especially the outdoors ones and world youth day masses there are expression of praise just like at ST Sabina but no one would say the pope isn't catholic for it. Remember the masses John Paul II held here in the states.

  • What is done in St. Sabina Church, works for the people of St. Sabina Parish. If they did things the way you traditionalists suggest, this place would be empty and would have been long closed. If you want to be legalistic, and want your smells and bells..go a few miles up the road to John Cantius.

  • Even in your area the Pastor of St.John Cantius had to turn away 4 future Priests beacuase their was no room.

  • Such Chirstian language, for "defending" what you make of his own church.

  • Consider these facts. Seminarys that do the Tridentine Latin Mass have a much higher number of Ordinations than Semainarys that only do the New Mass. Also before the New Mass, Seminarys , like those that do still the Tridentine Latin Mass today where literally filled with capacity. Even a great many had to be turned away beacuase they where so full.

  • Sure communion in the hand is liturgicly allowed, but does it make it right? Smoking, is Legal, Abortions are legal, but does it make them right either?

  • seems like some sort of a ritual

  • Is this the same St.Sabina where Fr.Plfeger made those comments about Hilary?

  • Yes it is!

  • Wow what a truly Catholic Parish. You have a Priest that speaks openly in contradiction to Church teaching and now he makes up his own liturgies not recognized by Rome.

  • If this is Catholic, then why is this in Chicago, the Latin Mass Capital of America?

Either way, the Priest presiding should be excommunicated by Card. George for this mockery of Holy Mass.

  • I have been to St. Sabina a few times it is very non-traditional. However, they still do the Eucharistic Prayer, Consecration etc, so it is still a valid sacrament. Illicit but valid.

  • That's exactly what they want you to think. They make up their own liturgy barely based on the missal and call it a Mass. Go to the Novus Ordo Mass (or the Tridentine for that matter) at. St.John Cantius next door. They celebrate the way the Novus Ordo was meant to be celebrated.

  • No he does the full liturgy including the Eucharistic Prayer. It is just longer because they do extra things at the beginning. They do the two readings, gospel, etc....I have not been there in a long time and granted he does not use the sacramentary. He makes up his own prayers. It is interesting...

  • He makes up his own prayers? Prayers not prescribed in the liturgy? So all of a sudden Priests now have the authority reserved only for the Pope to change the liturgy any which why he wants?

  • Cinque Cullar goes here. I thought he was Pentecostal!

  • Who says stuff like this? It's one thing to voice your opinion but to do it and be so disrespectful shows a lot about who you are!

  • it sure does

  • Now that shows real intelligence. Have you put on your white sheet yet??

  • I used to go to this school.

  • so you didn't go to college?

  • Liturgical abuses are NOT cool. This place is out of control and completely irreverant of the Sacrements. If these people want to do what they want and act like Protestants, then they should give up and be Prosestant.

  • DATS MA SKOOL CHURCH... BUT IT BE BORIN

  • Theologically, there is nothing wrong with this. The beauty of the RCC is the diversity in culture. Psalm 150: "Praise God with harp and dance". Also, according to liturgical guidelines there is nothing wrong with this. If someone were to say they had a problem with it, I would honestly just advise them that this is the style of the liturgy at St. Sabina's and I would defend it. That said, I think less of Fr. Pfleger on other matters, (Trinity UM) but he still is a priest ordained in God's tears

  • With all due respect Father, what makes you right, and Father Pfleger wrong?

  • .. i would return to the Catholic church if they had this perspective....GOD bless this community all who worship and study there through the prayers if its holy patroness, the holy martyr SABINA...

  • The Mass IS the Sacrifice of Christ on the Cross, now unbloddied and Sacramentally re-presented. It is NOT the sacrifice AGAIN, but the self-same sacrifice. I think it is important that different cultural expression be permitted latitude. Not everone is Western European.

  • Who cares about your Medieval Theology. Welcome to Vatican II

  • You're welcome. And thank you for your comment.

  • Make a joyful noise unto the Lord...and they DID! Who cares about Canon Law? Perhaps we should just ask ourselves "what would Jesus do?" I think he'd say "Party down my people!" And they did. Fantastic video. Now THAT'S what I call a celebration!

  • Yes...exactly!

  • "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord...and they DID! Who cares about Canon Law?"

If you want to be a protestant, be a protestant. Okay? Don't call yourself Catholic and then say 'Forget about Canon Law'. Church Law is not just something that people made up, it is the expression of the word of God Himself.

  • Excuse me, but Church Law IS something that people made up. God did NOT write Canon Law and no where has it been established that Canon or Church Law is ANY expression of the word of God. Man made up the laws. God doesn't play such ridiculous games! You've missed the basic point of this video anyway. It's a celebration in praise of God. Nothing more, nothing less. Get over yourself.

  • OMG...Somebody with some sense that is not wrapped up in religion. Thank you.

  • If you don't believe in Canon law, then why are you Catholic? Please explain.

  • That is true, but every denomination every one has some kind of charter, norms, or guidelines even the so called free evangelists. Canon Law is our set of norms and guidelines and if you call yourself Catholic or a Catholic Parish it needs to be respected.

  • Why don't you just accept the video for what it is and get over your pious, self-righteous self?

  • Beacuase like what oakking1 said, we have every strict rules about how the liturgy is to be celebrated. Due to the fact that it is the most sacred thing on Earth.

  • I stand on what I said at the beginning of all this judgment...MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE UNTO THE LORD. I honestly don't believe for one minute that God would have a problem with how these people pray. Get down off the cross and use the wood to build a bridge and get over yourselves!

  • I doubt you're even Catholic.

and if you're wondering if God likes this or not, look at the Sex abuse Scandal or the recent drop in Priestly vocations. What do you think is the cause?

  • Not only am I Catholic, I've been in church music ministry since the age of eleven. I am currently the Director of Music at a very large Catholic church with a vibrant assembly who loves to sing and praise God. The drop in priestly vocations has NOTHING to do with how the people at St. Sabina worship. The drop in vocations is because the Catholic church won't ordain women! I can hear you gasping already. Get down off the cross and use the wood to build a bridge and get over yourself!

  • It is not just about St.Sabina. In case you are unaware thousands of parishes in America do this. They also do communion in the hand, but does that make it right either?

  • Wait just a minute, bucko! Since when did receiving communion in the hand become a no-no? The problem with the Catholic church is that Rome changed some rules and then decided to change them back. Whatever happened to credibility? First we took out the kneelers costing parishes hundreds of thousand of dollars in renovation expenses and now we have to put them back in. As soon as Rome gets HIS act together, the Catholic church will become a better place for all. Anglican my hairy white ass!

  • The Churches that have them, don't use them and those without, might have portable kneelers. Like for Weddings.

  • If I remember correctly, pentecost actually started with the catholic church through what became the 1st fathers of the church.

"So my brethren, earnestly desire to phrophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues; but all things should be done decently and in order" (I Cor 14:39-40)

  • your comment to me shows intelligence. why get upset? i am only stating the facts. i did not say if i agreed with it or not. i have gone to Sabina's hung out with the choir and Phleger. all i am saying is that if you call yourself catholic you agree to certain norms and beliefs.

  • I was baptized Catholic as a baby. As a newborn, tell me how one "agrees to certain norms and beliefs?" One can believe in God and NOT adhere to what Canon Law dictates.

  • confirmation is to confirm the faith that your parents made at baptism. and yes one can believe in God and not adhere to Canon Law. i have my own issues on church teaching and some points of canon law. my only point is that if one is going to call themselves catholic, it means some acceptance of canon law, church teaching etc. otherwise you can go do what you want but you cannot "claim" to be catholic and do whatever.

  • Have you forgotten that Jesus has Risen. Meaning that he died for our sins and rose again. I don't know about you but I think that is something to be thankful for and praise Him for it.

  • You shouldn't be so focused on religion. Instead focus on a relationship with Christ. Religion is one of the things dividing people.

  • yeah but how we worship shows what we believe. if you call yourself catholic, it is a contract to practice your faith a certain way.

  • Pope Benedict XVI said just that in the Moto Propio Summorum Pontificum.

  • What you liked is irrelevent. The liturgy isn't about you - it's about God.

Your breed is becoming more and more rare. Those who are interested in rendering true worship to God and maintaining our sacred traditions now make up the bulk of real, practicing Catholics.

  • I think the three people who have commented above, are bigots in the most vile way. How dare they show shame and outrage at people celebrating... yes celebrating in song and dance the birth of Jesus Christ. With even the most cursory read of the bible one would see many references to dance and celebration. For example: Psalm 149:3 "Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp."

  • Because some people care about the structure of Liturgy and the History of the Church. If Sabina wants to do its own thing, they should split from the Diocese and become their own church. At that point, no one would care. It is not bigotry it is fact. If you claim to be Roman Catholic you agree to subscribe to beliefs and pracitces. You have the freedom to agree or disagree but you can't do what you want and call yourself Catholic.

  • AMEN!
