I believe the point you're trying to get across in this video, is that on paper and on some plays Stockton dominated Williams, but, if J Will's teammates made even half of the shots that J Will dished the ball to them perfectly with clean looks, it would not appear so dominated
Look and Listen to the PASSION of Jazz fans. The Delta Center (I hate the name "Energy Solutions Arena" It'll always be the Delta Center to me) is such a great place to watch a game
God, this brings back so many memories. The Jazz and Kings used to battle it out to the death! We had a good little rivalry going in the late 90's. Until both teams decided they didn't want to be contenders anymore, or their bankrolls wouldn't allow them to, i should say. (stupid lakers and heat. rich asses)
I'm a HUGE Jazz fan, Born and raised in SLC. and i'm sure people (old enough) all across the USA will agree that this was the best time in NBA history, this era. I remember going to Jazz games during this time, and maybe it was the team we had, but games were fucking stellar! I don't think most Jazz fans understand how lucky we were to have both Stockton and Malone on the same team, not to mention all of the other stars like Hornacek, Russell, Anderson, and yes even Ostertag!
@eljoelara. There haven't been "several much" dumber people than you.. Jason Williams was never half the player that John Stockton was. Stockton is the best pure PG ever to play the game.
Anyone can tell Jason was a much better ball player than Stockton even as a rookie from this video. Stockton was just getting the calls his way because he was a veteran. There have been several much better point guards in the NBA than John Stockton. Anyone ever hear of Pistol Pete????
@MikeyIV Wow. I hadn't thought about that. There used to be Stockton, Mark Price, heck I'll even take Steve Kerr, Jon Barry (not really a point guard), Bob Sura, Bobby Hurley (never got to play in the NBA due to injuries suffered in a car accident)... who else am I forgeting? I guess there's still Kirk Hinrich, maybe.
Stockton is the greatest PG to ever step on the floor. His court vision dissected and exposed things Williams' wrap around passes could only dream about.
he was a showboat ,a hot shot bad boy street ball n ghetto white boy, who tried to be black, i never had confidence in his abilities, what they dont show is all his trick behind the back passes that never made it and were stolen turn overs, he did this all the time, he would pass and his team mate was never even ready
All time NBA leader in assists and steals. The reason he never won a title was because Utah never got a big man and because he was unfortunate to have his entire career coincide with Jordan's. The way he takes Williams to school is beautiful. Williams completely unravels. Anybody who remembers the '97 and '98 Finals' knows that Stockton single handedly won the Jazz two games in each series while the Mailman went MIA down the stretch.
@leemutart : NO disrespect to jordan... possibly the greatest ever, but it fucking broke my heart when utah went up against the bulls for the championship and jordan pulls some three pointer out of his ass with hands in the face to win the game. I just felt so bad for stockton and malone.... minus jordan utah was easily the best team that year. And they were old too!!!! I was hoping they would win that game so bad. The only time i've actually felt real emotion for any sports event.
@justblaze48 oh shit.... yeah you're totally right. Was it '97 that they played the bulls in the championship game? Whatever year it was I guess my point is the jordan/pippen era bulls is possibly the best team the game has ever seen and it sucks that the stockton/malone era jazz had to go up against the best team ever.... they deserve a ring but were unfortunate to exist during the great bulls era.
John Stockton was such a flopper and a puss...watch him at 6:36-6:39. I can't get the ball so I'll just throw myself on the floor so maybe the ref will call a foul. He didn't do that here and there, he did it all the time! No respect.
@zzzzzz192 There are many persons in history that were famous, successful and celebrated and some of these persons got to the top by lying, cheating, stealing, exploiting, controlling, manipulating, and even flopping. You go ahead and respect him, that's your prerogative. Maybe you will flop around the court too like a pussy in order to get ahead. I think he was a weasel and his flopping is only one of many examples of his lack of character and integrity.
@RewardHonesty Don't worry, you are not the only who thinks this. The Utah Jazz, while a hard working team, always played dirty and tried to weasel their way to victory. Glad they never won a championship. The Bad Boy Pistons and even the Spurs of recent years are similar, although they had the mental strength and poise break through and win multiple titles.
@davd1986 you're a dipshit. EVERY team plays a little dirty. It's Basketball, not Glee club. It's gonna get physical in the lanes. It's people like you that are ruining sports. Let me guess you're a Lakers fan
@darthtrabia Nope, Bulls actually. The game today is the least physical it has been, ever. The level of play and skill is also the lowest it has ever been.
@clutchcity25 what?! 2:08 is why they almost did win a ring numerous times! It's the perfect stockton/malone pick and roll and williams locked stockton's arm up. What's stockton supposed to do?.... punch him? The reason the 90's jazz never won a ring is because the bulls had jordan. Take jordan out of the equation and the jazz would definitely have a ring. They were actually beating the bulls in the championship game for a lot of the game.... and then jordan stepped up like a mad man.
@freezazoid He's one of the dirtiest basketball players to ever live. The stuff he did was subtle. Karl Malone wasn't squeaky clean his damn self, either.
@clutchcity25 If you watch the clip stockton put his arm out to give williams a little push to make the pick more effective. Jordan did the exact same thing on stockton many a time. It's a bit dirty because it's illegal but is widely used when done subtly. Williams knew what was going on so locked stock's arm up.
jason williams was perhaps the greatest playground ball player to ever make it to the pros. when he was on the kings, he was pure flash, not much else.
despite terrible performance, J-Will still found mates wide open 3 maybe 4 times...and they missed! put a 7 where that 3 is in the assist column and his cred goes up a little at least.
Unfortunately, White Chocolate melted that day. You could take the worst player off of either team and they would still have more heart than a lot of the players of today's era.
whoever made this video prob fantasizes about getting banged ina hot tub by john stockton amazing how we watch so many misses by williams but nothing wrong from stockton.lol sadly enough the kings were a much better team than bum utah jazz
stockton yes was infamous for passing to malone but come on jason williams was the younger stronger more talented version, stockton visions was just one step behind
lmao @ Stockton trolling a rookie J-Will. Truly, Stock knew how to do everything that would win his team games, even if it never showed up on his stat sheet.
This video starts with a typical Williams, taking a three point shot on a fastbreak and failling hard, that's why he never became a top PG, just a flashy passer. Sacramento choose right when they traded Williams for Bibby, that's when they became a real threat.
@loonaya CHECK THE STATS--All time leader in Assists and Steals. You must not be a fan of the sport. Let me guess.. I bet you're a Heat fan now...or maybe a Lakers. And when someone else wins, you'll be there fan.
@jabberbandit Thank you, but I know the stats... He was an all time leader in both categories like 5 years before he retired... That doesn't mean it's a pleasure to watch him. And I hate both the Heat and the Lakers... But you have some point, because I don't cheer for any team specificaly. I'm not American and wasn't born in any of the cities with an NBA team or in a town close by, or in the state with the NBA team. I cheer for the team where my favourite players and fellow countrymen are.
Why? Because he's not flashy? The man made great passes, played great defense, and was a great shooter (and LEADER) for almost two decades. He's one of the greatest point guards of all time, second only to Magic Johnson.
Learn your basketball. Stockton is one of the greatest EVER at any position.
@pele1281 I've learned my basketball. He's one of the greatest, but he's still boring as hell. But second to magic johnson is a bit overrated, he wasn't that good. I'd rather have Gary Payton or Kevin Johnson on my team. peace
@loonaya Now there's somebody who was underrated- that's Kevin Johnson. He was one of my favorites .For a few years, he was dropping 20 pts/ 10 assists a la Chris Paul or Isaiah Thomas. That's something Payton, Nash, Kidd or Stockton never did. The thing that held him back was getting injured too much.
6:38. That tells the story of John Stockton. That ball was nearly impossible for him to get to, but he knew that if Williams got that ball, it would be a layup, so he lays out in hopes of some small chance of getting a finger on the ball. That's DEDICATION right there
@hauptishere Jason Williams--Most unintelligent basketball player ever. Had a great chance of being great. And yes, Stockton did SCHOOL. Scoring is not the only element in Basketball. Dub got schooled big time.
@GeGeMus12 Stockton, Malone (well cancel out Malone since he tried to hop the Lakers bandwagon) and Reggie Miller are my main two who I believe deserved a ring.
One of the best, if not the best era in NBA history. It was a turning point of past and present. You had guys like Mullin, Peyton, Miller, Mourning,Stockton, Malone.... playing against Kobe, Iverson, Nash, Duncan etc. A combination of old and new styles of play. Now a days the New guys are the Vets and the newer guys just don't have the same respect for the game. It's just a very different Era from the players to the League itself. I'm only 26 but the game just isn't as fun to watch anymore.
If his teammates could make a simple layup, they might have won this game. There were four or five times he dropped the ball on someone right at the basket and they were bricking 1 foot shots.
I rooted for him when he first came in the league. Then when I realized he had no brain, and cared more about making the highlight reel than putting a "W" up on the board, I wrote him off.
Jason Williams, could never lead a team which is why he is a backup PG. If your shot from long range isn't falling you don't keep shooting you go inside, get other teammates going. Sacramento is playing like Duke in this game, 82 three's over four games. The NBA is where amazing happens alright.
@pandasweater Very true players aren't robots they are gonna show emotions but I do agree when they swear at the refs or bitch then they should be given a tech, but for just throwing there arms or even mumbling somehting to themselves shouldn't be counted as tech. And refs are sooooooo inconsistent with those calls they only call it if they feel like it, but at least joey crawford is having fun : )
Stockton was solid on his D. He kept to his man, played help defense and even pulled some stuff that got away from the refs (over the head in 2:28 when williams was trying to drive). Stockton is known to be a dirty player but he hides it well, compared to Williams who can't get away with his little tricks. And he was content to getting on the line and shooting free throws, which is easy points for him.
I HATE THIS VERSUS BS. ON YOUTUBE IT'S LIKE THE UPCOMING OF A DUMB GENERATION YOU MIGHT AS WELL BEG PEOPLE TO COME TO THE PAGE! JOHN STOCKTON VS BOB COUSY OR ISAIH THOMAS I UNDERSTAND IT'S FAIR THIS IS JUST STUPID
STOCKTON THE LEGEND like all 90's players, and all this "RAP" generation of 00's players along with williams, well, I can just SPIT on them and their "skills"... long live the 90'S.
what the hell happened to jason williams????? hes been horrible since sacramento and miami hes getting crap minutes and really isnt playing well at all.... he used to be pretty good
SeanSawx05 I'm 5 6 and I am able to some crazy dunks. Truthfully, anyone can do it, just follow the right training program. I recommend the workout training at "50inch vertical [dot] com" but any program could be used if you know they generate results

SeanSawx05 crazy vid, reminds me of someone I know - me - heh. I'm five'six and I am able to windmill dunk. I used the famous workout plan that pro players including Kobe Ray Allen and Areans used. If you want more info about the program, check out - "50inch vertical (dot) com"

SeanSawx05 If you play bball at all, you gotta check out - (50 inch vertical [dot] com) - It's a unique training workout that will make sure you begin dunking and you don t even need to go to the local gym if you don t want to!
Jason Williams vs. John Stockton in 1999 NBA Playoffs Game 5 jtufuzvl hdxraeg #SeanSawx05
@creekcrew03 Yeah? That was thanks to Webber's hit on John, that screwed up his shooting arm for the rest of the playoffs.
He had to have surgery in the off-season because of Webber did. That was probably the biggest play of Webber's career, seeing as how the loser would always disappear in big games as far as fundamental offensive abilities. Hitting a 6 foot guard was about the height for Webber.
Even under duress thanks to that hit, Stockton killed the Kings. That game 4 shot was a dagger.
SeanSawx05, shit this is beast. That is spurting from a guy who s 5 5 but do windmill dunks. I used the nba training program at 50 inch vertical (dot) com and increased over 12 inches on my jump.

tpstrat14 11 months ago
@tpstrat14 watch it again, he's not diving for the ball..he's trying to flop to get a foul....

lmao everyone saying stockton schooled williams. @ 2:20 it says stockton 0/7 from the field. he sure dominated alright

@hauptishere
atleast he had 8 asst... notice later it says J-Will got none (0/4) too?
cantsaynomore 1 year ago
@hauptishere Jason Williams--Most unintelligent basketball player ever. Had a great chance of being great. And yes, Stockton did SCHOOL. Scoring is not the only element in Basketball. Dub got schooled big time.

Stockton's like a Jedi. Yeah, I made a Starwars reference. Who fuckin' cares? >.>

Bibby's dope, but Kings should've never gotten rid of J-Will. At least J-Will gots a ring with the Heat and Bibby still gots nada.

Stockton deserved an NBA champion ring
GeGeMus12 1 year ago
@GeGeMus12 Stockton, Malone (well cancel out Malone since he tried to hop the Lakers bandwagon) and Reggie Miller are my main two who I believe deserved a ring.
SH4DOWMOS3S 1 year ago
What a great series! It's clear in the last 30 seconds that both teams had big respect for one another.

Then when I realized he had no brain, and cared more about making the highlight reel than putting a "W" up on the board, I wrote him off.

flightdogg 1 year ago
Jason Williams, could never lead a team which is why he is a backup PG. If your shot from long range isn't falling you don't keep shooting you go inside, get other teammates going. Sacramento is playing like Duke in this game, 82 three's over four games. The NBA is where amazing happens alright.

Jason Williams could of been a great point guard in the league this is a prime example of todays "Highlight" era vs. the "Fundamentals" era.

F*** David Stern's "respect for the game policy." Basketball is an emotional game and you don't expect players to showcase their feelings. Bulls**t
pandasweater 1 year ago
@pandasweater Very true players aren't robots they are gonna show emotions but I do agree when they swear at the refs or bitch then they should be given a tech, but for just throwing there arms or even mumbling somehting to themselves shouldn't be counted as tech. And refs are sooooooo inconsistent with those calls they only call it if they feel like it, but at least joey crawford is having fun : )

This game made it so clear what we Kings fans already knew; while flashy, JW cost us games. In came Bibby and what should have been a champtionship.

J Will got that championship ring though as a sztarter for Miami. Stocton and Bibby don't got any.

Stockton was solid on his D. He kept to his man, played help defense and even pulled some stuff that got away from the refs (over the head in 2:28 when williams was trying to drive). Stockton is known to be a dirty player but he hides it well, compared to Williams who can't get away with his little tricks. And he was content to getting on the line and shooting free throws, which is easy points for him.
newagepun 1 year ago
Williams was ok, he never reached his full potential because of attitude though. Stockton was one of the best point guards ever though.

This isnt fair. Comparing a decent guard in williams to John Stockton the greatest or one of the greatest point guards in the game is not even close.

At @2:20 you cut it out reeeallll early so we couldn't really see Stockton was 0/7 from the field
creekcrew03 1 year ago 2
@creekcrew03 Yeah? That was thanks to Webber's hit on John, that screwed up his shooting arm for the rest of the playoffs.
He had to have surgery in the off-season because of Webber did. That was probably the biggest play of Webber's career, seeing as how the loser would always disappear in big games as far as fundamental offensive abilities. Hitting a 6 foot guard was about the height for Webber.
Even under duress thanks to that hit, Stockton killed the Kings. That game 4 shot was a dagger.

Gotta love the act Stockton put on to draw the foul at 1:54. Reminds me of the Vlade Divac flops. Always hated seeing players cheat to draw the foul.
