  • does anybody bother putting turbo's on stock 2.5 svt with 2.5 head and block?

  • anyone try the newer vct 3.0 that makes 240+?

  • man these engines don't make much power do they!?

I want to do a hybrid. 3.0 short block with svt 2.5 heads and intake.

I have to keep the engine looking as stock as possible.

Some dude mentioned the 3.0 is just a stroked 2.5 but isn't it just bored NOT stroked. . . ?

    thanks!

  • Hi! I was thinking and I would like to ask u ! What about the transmission do I have to change some thing in my car or the new transmission it's gonna fit well without any change please answer me Asap please

  • Hi!! I have a cougar 2000 and I want to install a 3.0 duratec engine do you think this is possible because both engines look like the same please let my know if u have a answer for me

  • any one trry a 3 l sho engine? ?

  • @REVs99. it doesnt bolt up to the transmission like the taurus/sable/escape 3l do

  • What's the point? Are you serious?...

How about a 60HP increase with proper tuning! No boost, no nitrous... All motor.

  • @BuckeyeSVT one question doing a 3l swap it just takes to swap engine??? and leave the rest of the parts the same?? cause I have an svt 2.5 andI want to know if I can put an escape 3l engine in it?? what are the mods needed to put a 3l in my SVT please

  • wats the point of the 3.0 swap. the duratech makes more hp doesnt it?

  • @SuperchargedStyle its cheaper to maintain, more reliable, parts are a dime a dozen, more power. how many svt contours do you see on the road and how many sables and tauruses do you see? they are both duratec motors, the svt as a more aggressive cam than the 3l though

  • thats sweet. very clean install.

    would you recommend repeating it?

    you obviously have

  • How come you didn't use the upper and lower intake from the SVT? It's very commonly said that it flows much better than the 3.0 intake.

  • It's commonly said, but it's hardly true. Even guys on CEG did a test of the SVT UIM/LIM combination against the 3.0L uppers and the 04+ Taurus and Escape outflowed the SVT.

Exactly why would someone want to spend another $250-$500 to Max Extrude Hone their SVT intake just so it can flow as much as a 3L? Pretty dumb if you ask me. 3.0L oval port intake belongs on a 3.0. SVT intake belongs on a 2.5L with split port runners. Period.

  • 3.5L 5 cylinder? What are you driving? A Colorado pickup or a Hummer H3? lol... 220HP.. wow. That's alot at the crank, what's at the wheels? I bet your the type that thinks the manufacturers posted HP numbers are at the wheels. I bet you're lucky to get 190HP at the wheels..

Your thinking is about as odd as your cylinder arrangement... What are you running in the 1/4? 15's?.... Maybe you can intimidate slow Civics and stock non-SRT4 Neons.. but everything else would own you. Pffftttt....

  • duratec is 1 shitty and 2 uhhh that motor is hella weak. my stock 3.5L 5 cyl makes 220

  • how much does it cost to do a 3l swap

  • Less than finding a replacement SVT 2.5.

  • alot.

  • Not much 1200 yourself 2800 a shop.

  • I have a question for all of you guys I have a contour SVT and here I found a wrecked ford dusion and it has a V6 duratec 3.0L in excellent condition and it has about 220 hp what do I need to do to install this engine into the SVT DO i need A dif transmission? what about the computer ECU? I need help please and then add Headers, perf exhaust ,intake , light flywheel performance clutch etc etc...can I do this with a fusion engine????

  • Won't work.

  • props on the fab work...have you considered the hybrid swap? duratec 25 intake and heads but with 3L block since the 30 is just a stroked 25? again, nice clean swap!

  • That's old school, and besides the hybrids have less potential due to higher compression ratio than the full oval port 3.0L's. I built my first hybrid in 2001, it's still running strong - But that motor is done. Aside from bolt-on's there's not alot you can do. You can't boost a hybrid, or really juice it. And for how much power a normal oval port 3.0L makes vs. the hybrid - It's not worth it. It's an aesthetic choice at best. (That SVT look - sleeper).

  • so if a Duratec 30 is 10:1 CR, wats the Duratec 25? so if you do a 3L swap you dont need to do the D25 intake swap with oval to split port conversion because they flow the same? wow interesting...im just curious but wouldnt the split port intake be preferred because its iron rather than plastic 3L intake for higher boost pressures?

  • If you do a Hybrid swap (2.5L heads on 3.0L block) you increase the CR to 11.25:1 - That's too high to do anything else to the motor. Someone should call Noble Industries than because all their 3.0L engines are all plastic intakes and they are almost all turbocharged (400HP+). The aluminum intake (where did you get iron from?) does not cool like the plastic - It saves weight and runs cooler. That's the benefits to running plastic vs aluminum.

  • im confused lol...the Aluminum doesnt cool like the plastic intake or the other way around? Strictly speaking, is there any perf. difference between using a D30 with COP ignition over traditional coil pack/wires? My '01 SES Taurus with the D30 has a coil pack/wires; ive seen a '00 have the COP setup...

  • The aluminum SVT intake holds more heat than the plastic UIM. There are no performance benefits to running COP - It's just a cleaner engine compartment with no spark plug wires.

  • Can this swap be done on non-SVT Contours and Mystiques as well?

  • Yes, this swap is not exclusive to the SVT models. We've done Gl, LX and SE models as well.

  • WOOOOOW

Pero cuida el arnés ahora tienes menos espacio.

  • Are you talking about harnessing the space?

  • has anyone swapped the SHO 3.0l thats what i would do

  • sho engine is great. as a piece of art in a auto museum. no it is a good engine but the duratec is much better

  • duratec...over sho motor.... no way... not then..not now...not ever...

  • everyone has an opinion

  • true ture...

what do you like about the duratec 3.0l over the sho 3.0l?

  • ...........so you're comparing ford's duratec to the SHO's yamaha engine?? The power output is 20+ for the sho, plus, the yahama engine has forged internals, making it a damn strong motor. Only thing that sucks is the cost of parts (if something does need replacing).

  • thats what im sayin

  • SHO does have a more powerful engine you're right. Know why nobody puts it into a contour? Because it's too much work. It's alot bigger and duratecs bolt in. So in a contour, the Duratec is a much much better engine, because it actually fits in the engine bay(tightly).

  • Oops I thought you were talking about the V8 in the more modern SHO. Since the V6 in the old SHO is pretty much the duratec 30. Yeah, newer SHO motor won't fit, too big lol

  • they come stock with a 2.5l duratec in the se and the svt and the base comes with a zteck i forget how many liters 2.0 i think

  • the 3.0 Yamahamer is much better than the Duratec, at least in stock form. The intake alone is a work of art. The yamahammer is LIMITED to 7k rpms to preserve the accessories but, slow them down and she can rev to over 8k's. Ive seen boosted applications make over 400hp on the stock internals...if it was my Contour id prefer the SHO but be just as happy with the 3L Duratec

  • Nice swap...

How hard was the swap? i dont know a lot about SVT contour..

  • It's not bad, alot of fabrication to make things work correctly. Not a simple project for DIY'ers.

  • That is why I sent my car to you! Thanks Dom

  • nice car you got there, check mine out in the UK....

  • What did you mean by "properly tuned" 3.0L? What "tunes" did you mean?

My 96 v6 Contour SE is on its way out needing most likely a head gasket (slight oil leak and possibly oil in the coolant).

Also, would my headers and complete exhaust still fit if I decided to do a swap?

Not too impressed with the sound of the engine, but the HP #s do impress :)

My 96 v6 only puts out 175hp according to Ford stock. That's far less than the rated 200hp of the SVT stock. A 3.0L would be quite nice it seems

  • Properly tuned meaning dyno tuned with an SCT chip by a certified trained professional. This means the engine runs like stock, behaves like it was built to have it. Yes, all add-ons would work (i.e. headers and complete exhaust). The engine doesn't sound "impressive" because that video was taken with the Stock SVT exhaust and not moving. The 96 probably only put down 135-140FWHP, SVT's did 160-170FWHP and mine is 204FWHP. Worth the conversion - Have to hear it driving to truly judge it correctly

  • why did you do this? this engine is less powerfull than the SVTs even is a duratec but it has the same power is this the LS v6 dohc? or de GS 150hp???? is pretty much the same and SVT's sounds a bit different

  • I'm sorry but did you say "less powerful"? I put down 204HP and 209TQ to the WHEELS. The SVT 2.5L engine only puts out 200HP at the CRANK. ;) Perhaps a little studying would show most SVT's only dyno 160-170FWHP so a 3L drop in is an easy 30-35HP increase over a normal stock engine. This engine is the 3.0L Duratec (24V) not the 3.0L Vulcan (12V) (150HP) engine.

  • ya, but how much did u spend on the engian, and puting it in. having a professional tune ur engian cant be cheap.

And what are some mods you can do to the svt to add some HP.

  • I can't speak for him but I did this in my cougar and it costs so little its not even funny. Find a wrecked escape/taurus/sable and pay $300 for engine. Use your mtx-75 and everything else is the same. Bolts right up. Get it dyno tuned by someone who knows their shit. I paid a total of $500 for everything and I made 222whp and 220wtq which in a NA cougar is just funny as hell. I still love poping my hood and showing people that its just a 2.5L with a intake =-) Taking peoples money is fun.

  • yep and its much cheaper!!!

  • Really Interesting . What other ford engine do you recommend to swap on a Contour?. I live in Mexico , so Sable/Fusion(3lts) engine are more expensive here. Im trying to buy a 3lts Mondeo ST engine, but its difficult to find on Yunks. Please give your feedback

  • You cant use the fusion

  • Yes, I own a shop in Ohio and do these professionally for other Contour/Mystique and Cougar owners.

  • did you do this yourself?

  • Unreliable? Where are you getting your information from? I've worked with these engines since their introduction in 1996 and haven't seen any fail outside of normal wear and tear (company cars with 160+K miles on these engines without failure) vs. a 2.5L SVT engine that normally won't make it to 120K without some serious issue. No power? A properly tuned 3.0L puts down 200+ FWHP, vs 160-170FWHP with a 2.5L. The engine only costs $550 to buy vs. $1000 for an SVT engine... Anything I'm missing?

  • @BuckeyeSVT I know this post is a year old, but I wanted to add about the reliability. My Contour SVT is on its original engine and transmission (obviously I've changed clutches a few times) but I'm at nearly 420,000 KM which works out to about 260,000 miles so I will defend your claim for duratech reliability :)

  • lol, why would you put a 3.0 Duratec in there? Those things are unreliable and not that much more power than the 2.5.

  • This is Laminar from FCO. Did you relocate the battery to the trunk? Care to post some pics of that setup on FCO?

  • Why the 05 sable motor? besides being a 3.0 right? How hard was the swap to do?
