The world today is going nowhere but Utopia. For the past 500 years, many inventions and innovations have been achieved by humankind, new forms of government have been tested, laws have been strengthened and cities built. And in the next 500 years, all the roads will go down to UTOPIA.
I think perfection is unattainable, for that reason we must thrive to make the world a better place. always. and it has to be the best place it can be, since we know for sure it is impossible for it to ever be perfect.
The only perfection mankind or even womankind can achieve is perfect ignorance. Else wise, why would we need to rely upon critical thinking and reasoning? Rationalize the dangers of simplicity. Tribal mentality is behind every religion in which eventually requires human sacrifice to the guardian of heaven. All who deny human imperfection are enslaved by its powers over rational thought. The road to hell is paved with wishful thinking. A greyness between black and white is as good as it gets.
Actually in Thomas More's Utopia, enslaving the poor and correcting one's wife seems to be the driving force. Read book II:Of Slaves and Their Marriages.
Utopia is ideal for the male aristocrat.
Ironic
There is nothing new under the sun or in the imagination.
His story is meant to be read as an allegory and criticism of contemporary Britain, not as an honest to god best place idea ever. Utopia means nowhere - he knew it couldn't exist.
He is right, a utopia is bound to fail because of human nature. A utopia is perfection which humans themselves do not have. But I think that if our societies work hard and try not to hurt each other with their differences, I believe that humans can get at least a little close to the utopia we all imagine and dream of.
I just uploaded a video directly relating to this utopian question : I suggest to create an alternative form of society.
If you have ever thought about how a better world could be, feel free to watch it and comment (the title is "An alternative form of society ? Come and participate !")
Utopia can't be made because of human nature, but, if I needed to choose a utopia, it would be like what Marx said about the last stage of communism, and, what Snowball tried to achieve in ANIMAL FARM, humans being the animals, of course.
for me, utopia is an island where no one is mean or hurts you in any way, where you can either make everyone dissapear, or just be with that special person you love. At day you laugh with that special person, swim in the river, at evening you sit/nap under a tree, hearing the most melodic tune, embracing the one you love, and at night you just take a shower and it calmly and peacefully around a campfire, cozy. Where you feel that "warm glow"...
What on earth are they talking about? Utopians are not really free, their life is regulated by the state. Not everything is good in Utopia, I believe someone didn't get More's sense of irony
in order for Utopia to be achieved, there must first be an anti-Utopia in which all who would refuse to participate or even try to work for utopia, would be exterminated. cruel, but neccesary for Utopia.

I hate the cynics "oh, its human nature"; when my nature screams "perfection behold!"

This video misses the point that St. Thomas Moores solution to problems of the world was conversion to Christianity

There's no such thing as a Utopia, but convincing yourself that we can't achieve better is a myth. We can.
