  • great song, great performance, great sound... and i love that Sole and the final from 7:56

  • BEST SONG EVER !!!!!!! BEST GUITAR SOLO EVER !!!!!! AMAZING

  • For the the lead vocalist throws a monkey wrench into the entire works.

  • このバンドのドラマーは私の永遠のアイドルBill Brufordでしょう。

    世界最強のバンドになれたのに。 実現して欲しかったなぁ。

    さあ、ドラム叩くぞ。 Easy Money!

  • Whetton is the greatest rock bass player who has made the limelight. Listen to what he's doing. And he has a good set of pipes. In my opinion he was part of the best Crimson lineup. I saw those guys in Milwaukee. Also saw Whetton w Roxy Music a year or two later. There are not many people who can play a bass like that. Stunning. This video is absolutely beautiful.

  • Once again where John Wetton is talent as well! Hey it's my name sake here.

  • Wetton is an outstanding addition to this mix,

  • A wonderful version of a Masterpiece by great musicians. I like the way of playing of John Wetton and Chester Thompson.

    GREAT ...

  • @PokerPlum -The vocalist and bassist here is John Wetton who is a prog-rock legend. His resume includes stints in King Crimson, Roxy Music, UK, and Asia.

  • Great live version of this.....especially so with Wetton!!!!!

  • This song is a masterpiece! Just amazing! Too much genius and soul! Steve Hackett is a huge inspiration for me... Check out my humble attempt to cover this song's solo on my channel and let me know what you think!

  • great musiciants for a legendary song...one of the my best favorities....Genesis sound forever :-))) i love prog

  • es una pasada

  • COMO SUENA ESA VIOLA!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wetton, Thomson and Hackett's ways of playing are really different but even better than Rutherford and Collins. Missing : Peter Gabriel.

    But fantastic version. anyway.

    Thanks.

  • Not quite the Bruford & Levin combination but what a great rhythm section nevertheless, with Wetton & Thompson. Wetton really shined through with this Bass performance

  • and of course Ian McDonald on flute! Marvellous!

  • @remnrone Flute is dubbed in. Watch the breaths. He's not playing live.

  • John Wetton!! Not as good as Peter Gabriel, but they are both masters at what they do :)

  • @PokerPlum

This singer is John Wetton. He starteted replacing Greg Lake in "King Crimson", later playing with:

The Family, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash - and then he established ASIA

  • Its so weird to see a LesPaul with a Floyd..lol

  • One of my most favorite Genesis songs reproduced oof the utmost excellence

  • any prog rock fan immediately knows the vocalist is john wetton

  • I liked very much this version... here in my country they say... when the class isnt water :)

can I ask something about the source of this video... is it an official release or what ?

    THX

  • @ontherun8

The dvd is "Steve Hackett and friends / Live in Japan". That was a release from Hong Kong. However, there's also the dvd entitled "The Tokyo tapes" which I haven't watched specifically, but I guess it's the same program. That dvd is available in the US and UK.

  • @cardenco I could've seen this show, but I balked at the 9000 yen ticket price. Still regret it to this day. :-(

  • @cardenco

Chester on drums, John Wetton is the singer and bassist, ex KING CRIMSON! Not good like Peter but he's good. Ian McDonald, flauto, ex King Crimson too.

  • I wonder whether Wetto was asked to sing for Genesis when Collins left. That would have been interesting.

  • I want to know if it felt odd for him to perform this song onstage with people other than Genesis. Very nostalgic.

  • FUCKING HACKETT MAN!!!!!!

  • He didnt "pinch" the song from tony banks!! He was in Genesis when it was released, so surely has the right to play it !

  • @jtlampsu what the hell are you talking about? what's your problem?

  • this is taken from the double album "the tokyo tapes" good album

  • thought this was a tony banks song - bit of a nerve for steve to pinch it really

  • @PokerPlum The singer is Asia's John Wetton and the great and close to Genesis, Chester Thompson...

  • Anyone know what effects pedal Steve is using for the solo? the sound he's got is exactly the same as the original and the sustain is remarkable!

  • capos.

  • Hello! I am from Argentina. Firth of Fifth is the best piece of Rock Progressive, but here, in my country, we do not what does mean Firth of Fifth. I do not know if it has translatio.

  • @arieldogliotti

an explanation can be found on Wikipedia - apparently it's a pun on the Scottish Firth of Forth.

  • @arieldogliotti I used google translator sorry if something is wrong. Firth of Fith is this: intraducibles título nace de un juego de palabras con el Firth of Forth que es un río escocés. Forth como preliminar cuarto en el sentido de "cuarto poder". A partir de aquí, Fifth del título significa "quinta"

  • beautiful interpretation of a classic. brings a whole different aspect to the song. bravo.

  • Wonderful!

  • Close your eyes and sounds just like King Crimson-seems they(Genesis & KC) had a lot in common and both created Fantastic Music!! Obliterates anything out today!

  • grande lavoro al basso di wetton , come chester alla batteria , per non parlare di steve .......

  • Thanks for posting. John Wetton does a great job, but his bass playing steps on Steve Hackett's solo a little bit.

  • Wow, Wetton plays the bass pretty damn good on this one. Not that he didn't while in KC or others, but I really liked this.

  • That was awesome! Made my night. Thanks for the post.

  • Sbaglio o alla batteria c'è un certo Chester Thompson?

  • SIIIIIIIII!!! es Cherter... un idolo!

  • Chester Thompson

  • The "vocalist" on this video happens to be another legend of the 70´s: King Crimson´s John Wetton. If you don´t know of their work, I recommend to listen to Lark´s Tongues In Aspic.

  • and the super group ASIA

  • Hehe, yea, it's not just ANY vocalist!

  • i didnt think he did great. He did decent but I feel it wasn't very emotional

  • Drummer: Chester Thompson. A regular on Genesis touring band, from 1976 on. He handled the drums while Phil Collins handled the vocals. Sometimes they doubled on drums.

  • I love it all! Great band!

  • moje ulubione solo" ever " w rocku progresywnym za każdym razem przechodzą mnie ciary po plecach

    Jesteś Wielki STEVE

    Pozdro Z Piatek

  • Damn this is good.. A little slower than I like or am used to but allot is there.. Hackett and Chester from 1977 W& W tour, a flute only Gabriel played from Selling tour and a cool "Yes" sound to back it up.. I'm very Nostalgic.. Awesome rendition!!

  • much love x

  • Cardenco:

Selling England by the Pound album is from 1973, not 1974...

Great performance... I like Wetton's singing style, but I think it doesn't work in this Longlife Peter Gabriel's masterpiece (even if it was written by Mr. Rutherford)... Nice mid improvisation, King Crimson's style (John Wetton and Ian McDonald... coincidence?).

Firth of Fifth's solo always strikes, and even more if it is played by the master Steve Hackett...

    Greets.

  • I'm REALLY tired of the "Pete" nerds, so, I must disagree with you, Wetton does a nice job, it does work, who else would you fucking recomend sing this?, and you might want to give Wettons' shot at this a second listen...doesn't work, what an idiot.

  • I always thought (and read somewhere) the whole idea of this song is the brainchild of a certain Anthony George Banks...

  • @kkkolor Just a minor correction: Firth of Fifth isn't written by Rutherford, but mainly by Banks. The lyrics have some Rutherford contributions, and the solo is obviously 'written' by Hackett. Who, by the way, is by far the most underrated guitarist ever...

  • the tokyo tapes !!!

    a must have dvd

  • beatiful!!

  • Love it! Never seen this one. I like Wetton on vox...very masculine. Was this Hackett's band; and is that Chester Thomson on the skins? That long, sorrowful solo is one of my favs of Mr. Hackett. Thanks for posting!

  • Yes, that is Chester on drums. This is a special band that Hackett formed for a japanese tour. And you are right: that is a SORROWFUL middle. It caught my attention since the first time I heard it, and everytime I hear it takes me back to 92-93, the first years in which I discovered the original song by Genesis.

    Thank you, shovelman !

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank You , Cardenco :D Your Video Made My Day !!!
