As an Irish dancer and I far prefer Colin Dunne to Michael Flatley..he's probably the only guy that could match Jean Butler in grace. He makes it all look impossibly easy, while still being technically infallible. I'm so sad I never got to see him perform live!
No offense2Flatley or his fans, but his self-centeredness takes away from his dancing. It makes me wonder if he really cares about the art of Irish dance itself.Lord of the Dance is brilliant, but it doesn't exist4the glorification of Irish tap.It exists4the glorification of Michael Flatley. If his parents had put him in swimming lessons when he was a kid&it made him look good,he would have stuck with that.No matter what his real intentions are,he still comes off that way. It's not about tap anymore.
Sorry, but Michael Flately is a FAR better dancer. It looks like Colin is the better Irish dancer while Micheal does his own Irish tap(?). But I believe Michael got bored with traditional Irish dance long ago. Search for the videos where he performed with The Chieftans long ago. He was far too good even back then.
@fazdoll The Problem with Michael is he believed himself better than everyon else and that he was the river dance.......Unfortunatly Colin show him up for who he was and it was colin that drew peoples attention back to the show ... colin is a humble dancer who breaths the music and enjoys what his doing. No offence intended to all Michael flatlely fan out there but give credit were its due . and it does not belong on michaels doorstep!
This is the equivalent of George Lucas attempting to "better" his own Star Wars films by adding more spactacularisms. The end result? "More" not necessarily meaning Better. At all.
this modesty makes all the difference. This guy is far better tan Flatley. His sobriety goes according to the sobriety and skill of Irish dancing men. He knows how to be "First dancer" of troupé.
Hey guys! its me with another question. Do any of you know what the song is called and where I can find it? I've looked everywhere and can't find the right one.
Thanks! I would've read throught the comments and probably would've found out but I don't like seeing some of the language on the comments. Thanks again!:D
@TheCharmanator Im just curious; how is Jean's name pronounced? Jean like a pair of Jeanes, Shaun like Shaun connery or something else? I dont want to sound stupid; but..I also dooin't want to pronoucne her name wrong shoud I ever had the pelausre & honour of actually meeting her lol
@devilsluk Jean Butler is Irish American, rather than French. Therefore, it would be the English (or Irish American) pronunciation of Jean rather than the French pronunciation.
Thanks. I needed that. It's been a little rough today and I've found myself here. I saw it with Flatley in DC and have had no trouble ever seeing Colin Dunne do this. There is such a fire between him and Jean. I also think this is a much better produced version than the video I have. This is much better thought-out on how to shoot it. Anyway, I never would have guessed I'd wind up here, and it was absolutely right. And if you'll excuse me, I need to watch it again.
I saw this Spanish lady in Copenhagen about 11 years ago, and I honestly felt like learning to dance flamenco and also Irish dancing, but too bad, I'm in my late sixties and can't move that fast anymore ;-)
Michael Flattely has a type of arogance that forces him to make the show about him and not the dance. You can see it in the overly flashy costumes and effects as well as the way he seems to need to outdue his female partners instead of complement them like Colin Dunne does. For Colin it's about the dance and you can see it in the passion that he puts into his movements and tword his dance partners. It is probably part of where they grew up. Michael is from Chicago, U.S.A.
@arodoet126 It IS Riverdance in New York. DODG also has Colin Dunne and Jean Butler as lead, but I'm sure if you've actually seen Riverdance you would know that this is part of the show.
If you get the a chance to see them before final will come down do as it is just as breath taking and as amazing to see even more so in person it was just as breathtaking and the beats before the dancers come on and the sheer power from the dancers and from the audience around was electric it really was they are just amazing to see just get tickets if you u wont be disappointed at all and riverdance experience will stay with you forever when u go because well wow..
I am assuming you are referring to the dislikes, so what does that have to do with disliking a video? I eat at McDonalds. I have watched Nascar. That has absolutely NOTHING to do with liking this video or not.

Hey, let people think Ireland is a country known for "silly drinking and messing around" im proud to have Irish in me no matter what anyone else thinks, silly drinking and messing around!? GOOD! dont need to prove anything to anyone! IRELAND FOREVER!
@Brady2k10 but the problem is, you do need to prove to the world a lot, because Ireland is young and needs to show the world what its nation can do. Because Irish are so much better than the drunks we see in streets of Dublin, Sligo, Galway, Drogheda or even small ones like Monaghan. Ireland can do so much more than drink itself to an early grave
In one triumphant scene called Trading Taps, Dunne steals the show, together with 20 year old Tarik Winston, an African-American tap dancer from the Bronx.

What a beautiful melding of Spanish and Irish dance. And now with a new dance company, you can really appreciate how many talented people there are! Wonderful!
