German comes from the ancient Germanic Runes.

It's the base for many languages. Norwegian, German, Swedish, Icelandic, etc.

English is a Germanic Language, but 60% of English Roots come from Latin.

It's probably why Our language can sound harsh and sharp with some words, and yet sweet and flowing with other words. So we get the best of Both Worlds. :)

I live in (the French-speaking part of) Switzerland. Almost 70% of Swiss people speak an awful dialect called Swiss-German (you can die from ear bleeding just by hearing it, seriously). In comparison, German sounds like the most beautiful language in the world. Actually, in comparison, any language does :D

Well, they do share a common root, but it came to play when you think of modern German.

Although German has also been influenced by Greek, French, English and other languages, Latin-derived words make up a large percentage of German vocabulary.

So in a way they are right, but in a way they aren't.

German is the root Germanic language, but it was influenced by Latin because of how far the Roman's Empire expanded, Latin was probably influenced by the Germans as well.

I would ask kindly you not turn a cold shoulder to it and beat it down because I rather enjoy Switzerland.

You have to realize that Switzerland has 4 National Languages:

German, French, Italian and Rumantsch.

It's not a horrible language and that was a rude thing to say.

@rhaston01 Well, like many have said, it doesn't come from the same language, and in my opinion, I don't understand why so many people elevate french above German. It's just a social construction. If you took a more objective look, personally I find French too nasally and German more softer sounding. It may be more guttural, but that actually gives it a certain flair I like.

Problem with official versions is that the star signing it tries to put a bit too much of his style instead of playing the true feeling of the song.
