hmm,he doesn't look Korean... he looks Japanese. Am I correct? (not being racist/mocking) just curious after reading a comment. I like guessing people's nationalities.
This video is misleading. He didn't show the handwashing at all. It's a waste of time. He should rename the title. A totally condufed chap, sorry to say it.
One thing I don't understand is the distribution of triclosan. It takes 2 hours to kill bacteria! They didn't see this in the lab?
And why even use soap, why couldn't we make an alcohol based liquid that kids all bacteria instantly with an almost zero change of antibacterial resistance?
at first, i also thought it was silly that we have to learn how to wash our hands. but to my surprise, i wasnt doing as it should be done. and i really had a lot to learn about hand washing and stuff. its cool how something we think is so simple could turn out to be so complex! good luck in med school!
we got examined in hand washing in 1st year... and in all clinical exams we have now, if we don't wash our hands correctly or forget to wash them we automatically fail!
alchol is a powerful solvent. as it slips thru the lipid bilayer of a cell via pores, it denatures proteins, which is needed by the cell.
to answer someone else's question, we don't want to use alcohol all the time because, just like EtOH denaturing bacterial proteins, it can denature ours as well. however, our integumentary system protects us fairly well from inconsistent washing with EtOH. but that's why we don't do it all the time.
haha, yes -- you'd be surprised how many doctors don't wash their hands. the nosocomial infection rates at hospitals can be dangerously high in certain departments.
Because hand washing is boring and you can't see the result I never make it to 30 sec! But I suppose its more important in hospitals (don't they use gloves there?).
thanks a lot for your comment! hand washing is so boring -- i agree with you, but please try your best because it does make a difference. it's very important in hospitals (to wash hands), but just as important in your home, because it keeps you from getting sick, the flu, etc... happy new year!
How to wash your hands and cheer yourself up? How can you be this condescending before you're even a doctor?

I'm a little OCD, but I like to wash my hands for a couple of minutes every once in a while.
I wash my hands throughout the day. Kind of a lot.
