  • i am 4 mounths out of my 2nd sugery of a grade IV seperation... i just finished my PT and he told me i have to work it out 3 times a week or im gonna have problems. when i first started workin it out it felt terrible, not like i was in pain but more like it felt loose and would pop and make snaping sounds, now that i have been workin it out it feels strong (75%) but i was wondering if there was any specific exercises that you feel make a difference? and are you running a shoulder brace?any supp?

  • @motoXmurph8

i had one surgery with the intention on replacing my AC tendon with a cadaver tendon via a hole through my clavicle. while operating they discovered i had torn my bicep tendon also. that being said, my only "working out" in my recovery was with some rubber bands. i'm not a fan of the working out in a gym...so i just gradually over the last 1.5 years progressively gotten back into my climbing, riding and such. after about 5 weeks in the sling, i haven't worn anything for support

  • i had a a c shoulder operation in aug. my main problem is head aches. anyone having the same problem

  • I suffered an 5th AC dislocation, It was three months and a half ago, my surgery was three months ago and I agree with you this pain is one of the worst.

Now i'm finishing PT, and I am starting to do some exercise that doesnt require my arm.

  • My accident was riding a bike, and now i'm really scared about riding bike again, because my accident was caused by an imprundent car driver, and I used to ride bike as a way of transportation around the city(i am living in Rio de Janeiro). And the people here drive like crazy all the time.

And for me the recovery was quite dificult, and the doctor said that i couldn't move my arm for two week, after these two week he allowed me to do little movements but very restricted.

  • @gamatorres1000

if there is anything i've learned, it's that you've just got to keep on living...whatever is going to happen will happen...don't let that strip your passions and enjoyment of the ride of life. my injury changed my life...at first, seemingly for the worse, but now i am in such a great place. i attribute my success to the nudgings i got from...well...let's just say, up above. i think your comfort and confidence will come back in time, just go with it.

  • @creamanthem Good to hear how you are progressing that's reassuring to know. It's 5 weeks since my surgery and I'm slowly able to do the PT now as 3 wks was way too soon.My injury was type 3 I believe, that's what my doctors told me as both tendons were busted. This is frustrating but patience is a virtue they say. Many thanks and well wishes to ya.

  • @creamanthem Good to hear you are on the mend and managing to do a lot of stuff. Sorry to bang on with the questions but it's nearly a month since my operation and the surgeon said not to do anything for a while to help it all stick. But the practice has just referred me to a PT and he gave me a load of light movements to do everyday. But I feel it's too early and it seems to be aggravating my shoulder. How long was it for you before you started PT? Many thanks

  • @MaxDemboNo1 - It was around 6 weeks after surgery for me before I started PT.

  • Hi..It's touching on a year since your operation and I was wondering if you have made a full recovery? I had same injury and had my operation last Monday..My Doctor has advised me to rest and not lift anything over 5kg for the next 3months. Be interested to know how you are doing? And also has the position of your shoulder blade different to the other. My shoulder blade (scapular) looks like it's not where it should be..Appreciate your thoughts. Best wishes

  • Not quite a full recovery...I still get a minor tweak here and there, usually from climbing. I've been back to my regular activities not at 100% capacity at around 5 months from the surgery. Luckily, I have not fallen on that shoulder again...although I went over the bars on a pretty big step down, but landed on my right shoulder! You become very aware of the injured shoulder. My shoulder is still quite numb in most of the areas surrounding the surgery, which is fine by me.

  • I can feel the part of the bone they drilled through...not sure exactly what I feel there...perhaps the healed bone that grew around the new tendon. I would guess I have 85% mobility and am just now getting into the 85% strength bracket, roughly. Overall I'm happy with the results...considering. It hasn't stopped me from doing too much...but it did screw my head on with a but more apprehension. Good luck...don't let your head get to you during your recovery. That was THE WORST for me by far!

  • @MaxDemboNo1 - I would say, unofficially, I have made a 90% full recovery. My shoulder feels very strong again, muscle definition has become equal to that of my other arm/shoulder. Numbness is still prevalent, however slowly improving. I definitely still favor my right shoulder with confidence, as I fear re-injury, but that is slowly changing. My shoulder blade felt as though it was out of place, but no one could ever corroborate my suspicion. It is possible for it to be out of place..

  • Creamanthem, I just recently suffered an AC separation one week ago today (Type II or III). I will know more on Tuesday as to the exact prognosis. I would be interested to hear how you dealt with the bump/nub deformity with your first Type III injury. I would also like to hear other people’s experience with this body image issue as I’m really having a tough time dealing with my new injury/deformity. Thks!

  • I got a AC joint Type 3 separation and other than a pain at the top of my shoulder my arm moves pretty well at the lower part ranges of motion but when I raise my arm over my head i can feel a pain at the tip of my right shoulder. The 1st doctor recommended surgery but I got a second opinion and he said that surgery can be put off for now. How long did you take to recover from the non surgery type 3 dislocation and is it still good as before ? I fell on 27May and its 9Jun now .

  • hey man i got the same thing u got stage 5...im going in for surgery on monday. im pretty nervous about the outcome but u made me feel a little better thanks man!!!...

  • Thats something to think about..Wishing you full recovery and thanks again.

  • Thanks for your thoughts..I have an appointment with the doctor on May 6 to see how i am progressing. Doctor said surgery wouldnt be necessary unless I sill had pain. But to be honest I want surgery anyway..Not happy with this chicken drum sticking out of shoulder..thats pure vanity on my part.

Hope you made a full recovery with the type 5..Your thoughts again would be much appreciated.

  • @ferdinandoNo1

As long as your okay with not doing shit for about 4 months...and babying your shoulder for potentially months there after. my surgery was in august 2011...about 75% of the top of my shoulder is still completely numb, it still gets sore from regular use, can only put about 60% of the leveraged weight i used to, and i'd say i have probably another 3 months for a full 100%ish recovery. i wouldn't do it unless you had to.

  • Hi I fell from my bike a week ago and doctors told me I have an AC joint Type 2 separation. And all they have advise me to do is keep it in a sling rest and just carry on with the medication.

But from looking online and reading up stuff I feel like Im bordering more on a Type 3.

As the bone is sticking out quite a bit and I'm wondering is it still early day's or is it likely that it will stay like that? Your thoughts will be much appreciated.

  • it will stay like that without surgery. when i had my type 3+ i had it in a figure 8 and a shoulder immobilizer to keep it as still as possible all the time except while showering. it took about 6-8 weeks to heal and hurt like a bitch for the first month. let it heal and don't let the depressing side of it get to you...it will be like new, other than the friendly reminder of a bump, once it is healed.

  • Hope you are making a full recovery.

I'm coping with a Grade 3 injury at the moment following being bucked from my bike. It sounds like you had a modified Weaver-Dunn reconstruction which I hopefully won't need.

How about a follow-up video so we can see how you're doing?

  • i've got a type 3 ac seperation from a snowboarding accident 4 days ago. Do you have a bump on your ac joint after healing on your first injury? and does your arm sag down? Tell me what kind of aftereffects am i looking at for my shoulder. thx
