When I give hickies, I am always careful to make sure that they aren't in an obvious place. Like a neck. I have never recieved a hicky(ie?) that hurt, nor has my mouth ever gotten tired from giving one; I mean, do it for a minute, max. People (I) like them because.. let's not go there. They feel good.
