there's nothing unsafe about driving faster than the speed limit as long as you're paying attention to the road and not your radio, drink, cheeseburger, makeup, hair style, dog, any animal for that matter, or child. as for constant lane changing by this driver, a little signal would help.
@forcedexile1 Nothing unsafe about driving faster then the speed limit as long as (...) you pass on the left side! Passing on the right hand side creates nothing else but freaking mess. "Keep Right Pass Left" is the most important rule not the speed limit! However for some reason it is not working (or it is not respected) here in US.
@ralphrs6 i disagree. while i agree that everyone should be keeping right except to pass, when they don't it's not going to stop me from passing them. they've made the decision to stay in the left hand lane so if they change lanes at the last second and cause an accident, they're still the ones at fault. there's still nothing unsafe about this driver's driving other than he's not indicating. but looks like the drivers around him couldn't care less anyway.
@forcedexile1 I'm glad we have an understanding that the drivers should be following Keep Right rule, period. And I didn't mean that if you catch up to a slower moving vehicle (in the left lane) you should stay behind. No! What I'm saying is you should give them a chance to move over not just to assume that they never will. Now, if they won't move over at least give them a clear sign (high beams or left turn signal) of your intention to pass! If it doesn't work THEN go for the right lane!
@ralphrs6 regardless they should be checking their rear-view mirrors a few times per min. if they see a car close behind them while they are in the left hand lane, that's when they should be moving over. i shouldn't have to signal them to do something their supposed to already know to do. high-beaming them any other signal could make them angry and then they slam on their brakes, i rear-end them and i'm the one being told i'm at fault. i've seen it happen before.
@forcedexile1 Hmm... I usually don't have this kind of problems. About 50% of left lane loafers move over seeing my left turn signal being on. Sometimes I have to go with a few quick HB flashes if LTS doesn't work and most of the times they're responding to this by moving over. Got to be patient though!
@JareckiJ Ok, lets break this down a little. "Unsafe"- the reason why I call this type of driving unsafe is simple. Every time someone decides to use the middle or far right lane to pass creates a chance for "miscalculation". At the speeds 75-90mph (120-145kmh) there might be not enough time to correct it! And also what I've witnessed that some drivers have tendency to accelerate while being passed narrowing this way margin for any errors."High Speed"- yeah I know. This is not Europe though! ;D
You are so right about how some drivers that are being passed will start to speed up as you're passing them. Happens all the time to me and I honestly don't understand why they do it.
