You did a great job here and it sounds like it easily could have been a BoC demo of the original tune. Of course you can always improve it but trying to match somebody else's sound in production is harder than designing original sounds.
Sounds amazing good job, was also wondering how many patterns you have going on FL? it looks rather complicated. I'm still figuring out how to use FL.
i unlike everyone who talks crap realizes that ur doing a BOARDS OF CANADA cover XD... in my eyes this is as good as it gets lol. u matched it as good as u needed to, i loved it !!!
whoa this is pretty interesting, sounds like it's played on some REALLY old casette player or something and the sounds get a bit tweaked from it or something, like the same song but a different song at the same time, awesome
Finally, someone who knows how to do a cover right. I can't even begin to count the number of shitty fuckin' covers I see here on a daily basis; especially Kraftwerk covers. And most Fruity videos are terrible too. Job Well Done! :-)
Every now and then I look to see if anyone has made a new decent BoC remix, and time and time again this is the only one I come back to give a listen to because it's actually good at capturing the mood and feel of BoC while still being appreciably different.
Anybody who took the time to attempt to recreate such a cool tune gets my vote. He probably had a lot of fun trying to figure it out too. Reminds of when I recreated "Tom Sawyer" with an 808 and a NordLead. Fun stuff
This is fantastic, but that one wrong note drives me absolutely insane. No offense, it's perfect otherwise. But you have to pay more attention to obvious detail.
Some sublime cover version material :-) Ican clearly see you're riding on the crest of a wave of discipline and enthusiasm for perfecting BOC - and undoubtedly other fine - material with "attention to detail". Any imperfections will be ironed out and the feeling notched up. All I can say is that the future stuff you tap out will be well worth checking out.
Once more, "Chapeau sir, chapeau!" I love coming back to this BOC cover :-)
That's too bad to hear about the project file. It's always a bummer to lose something you've put work into. I appreciate that you saw my comment as constructive, often when I comment in a similar manner, people act like I'm just sending hate-mail. I'll check out some of your original tunes some time and perhaps comment on them as well! I think covers of electronic songs are a little silly anyway. You might as well just start your own songs and see where they end up.
The bass line has wrong notes in both halves. I know you say we should just get over it because it's a small mistake, but small mistakes are easy to fix. Also, I think the straight 16ths near the end really throw the groove off. This song always seems like a swung 16ths feel to me.
I love this song as much as anybody, but it's Boards of Canada's creativity and sound design that make me appreciate them so much, neither of which are found in this cover.
@spibbly The mistake really does bug me. My response to the commenter was more targeted at the brevity in his message. Really, I usually have such an attention to detail with covers and I can't believe they slipped past. I would have fixed it but alas it is somewhat beyond me - I have no access to the original project file as it was unfortunately destroyed. With regard to the straight 16th notes at the end, I agree. [continued...]
@spibbly [...continued] I just had no idea where to go at the end, not wanting to introduce ideas that weren't BoCs but still trying to develop them. The sound design aspect is similar, obviously I am not them, and attempting to emulate them perfectly would be futile, but I didn't want my own style to cloud the piece. Perhaps I should have let it show more. Thankyou for your comment, though. Maybe I will try and make a more original and more thoughtful attempt at a cover in the near future.
the first half kinda throws me off...something aside from the wrong note that is throwing it. but then 3:09...you drop a nuke, and it impacts at 3:43. freakin sweat man.

@hugboxx This guy is using softsynths not real analog like BOC so given that its a pretty good job to my ears as its not easy getting those exact sounds and he has made his own version which I think beats the original in some respects.
Although no-one will ever be the genius that is BOC, you, sir, are on top of your game regarding paying homage to these guys.
And I love the little quirky departures you (naturally) make in this version - that kinda makes it your own tune. I'll listen out for more of your stuff in the near future..
@eirepol73 thankyou very much! My first BoC cover actually. I've got more of my music up at music . josefkenny . com and a blog at josefkenny . com if you want to listen :)
as good as it gets, my friend. you have replicated the original as close as anyone else will ever do. the drumsa re a little stiff, though. can you change those up a bit to match the original???
awesome work! What effects and such did you use to get the lo-fi sounds? I found a plug in called Wow n Flutter that captures the sound of old tape fairly well.
what kind of filter did you use to give it that analog pitch wabble/off-balanced sound? i'm trying to get that effect on fl studio and cannot figure out for the life of me. thanks!
Hey, thanks :D Which bits seemed a bit off to you? I did take a bit of artistic license in the arrangement I suppose, as I wanted to try and provide something different to BoC's version without deviating stylistically too much from it.
please tell me where you got the vst for this!!!!

It's okay I guess. Sounds anemic. You don't have that analog flutter that makes BoC what it is.
You have to make everything ethereal, warm and dreamy; here it sounds really processed and fake. Nice try though.
