  • Coal is dirty! I am with you. The power grid needs to be fixed anyway. Why not spend the money on renewable energy sources? When you factor in the true costs of fossil fuel energy (pollution, global climate change, and habitat destruction) Solar and wind power are very competitive on a cost per basis. Further they will become even less expensive as economy of scale are factored in.

  • You greeniacs have no idea what your talking about. Yeah go ahead and see how much it costs you to put solar power into your home and have electricity only sometimes, or wait I guess you tree hugging sons of bitches want a nuclear plant sitting in your backyard. You need to get the facts straight and think about the consequences of your actions.

  • these people are full of crap, WV Is Coal that's the only way of living we have here.

  • It amazing the number of naive individuals out there who use small weather fluctuations as evidence against global warming. Read the IPCC report, and you'll learn how global warming leads to intensified weather conditions (including more droughts, stronger hurricanes, and even colder winters.)

The protests don't call for an end of energy, but an immediate switch to more "green" sources. Energy sources that not only reduce CO2 emissions but also create jobs and REDUCE energy costs.

  • What did these people accomplish there today nothing

  • They made you think about global warming today.

  • What a bunch of dummies....these sheep are brain washed . They should be picketing volcano eruptions... lol, they have no clue about the Earth's weather.

Aug 30, 2008 ... Recent scientific evidence, world's climate is cooling, not warming, from reduced radiation from the sun

The main reason why the the Polar Ice Pack is melting is that the Worlds Oceans are full of Solar Heat absorbing microscopic plastic partials from there Soda and Water Bottles and it has raised the water temperature.

  • Plastic and metal in the water, huh?

Don't tell me you're one of those people who proclaim that the Mount St. Helens eruption was the equivalent of a year of human pollution or some shit... You can bust the volcano myths by doing 5 minutes of research yourself.

  • Without coal or nuclear power these folks would be going home to a cold house. "The best estimates are that the grid can tolerate no more than 20 percent wind without becoming overwhelmed by fluctuations." 10% for solar. William Tucker National Review The only legitimate protester is a cold one.

  • I think we should try to reach that 20% though we are only at maybe 1% or 2% now. I think nuclear is a lot better option than coal is for the other 80%. I hope these people out there protesting against coal realize that also. We can't can't just do nothing, global warming is a very real threat.

  • Can you tell me why we have been having a decade of cooling, and how is man influencing the climate if our CO2 output apparently isn't causing warming? I think wind and solar power are good ideas, but probably more on an individual basis. Small wind generators have had a measure of popularity in the 70s, 80s, and back before rural electrification. It would be nice to see them used more now in areas that have sufficient wind.

  • Can you tell me where you are getting those statistics because I don't think that's at all accurate at all. Every source I can find shows the complete opposite to be true in fact I just checked the NASA website. We have not been having a "decade of cooling" that's just flat out wrong.

  • Do a search for eleven years of global cooling."

  • How about we do a search for "global temperature statistics" or a variation of it, rather than a search that will probably specifically give us a link to information from a conservative think tank/ organization that is funded by fortune 500 money?

  • You can get what you want to read with the right search. But then there is the truth. Other than clear cutting huge areas of land, I doubt that man influences the climate much. I think the carb credits push is just another wealth transfer scheme.

  • It is definitely a wealth-transfer scheme. What isn't under capitalism? We have commodified the universe, and a cap-and-trade would only further the process.

So what about, say, a sane proposal, like a cap-and-dividend system?

  • I think the reward system, such as tax breaks for folks who buy economic transportation, is a good way to go. It sure beats trying to tax a major energy source out of existence.

  • :26 whose this asshat?
