  • lernt by ear ? it's great so!

there're some mistakes, but I admire you at all. b.t.w. do you maybe know where could I find the piano part to this piece ?

  • just to be clear, i do not teach the violin - i teach several other instruments, but i am just a student myself on the violin - i would not want to give the wrong impression.

  • many modern violin students have a tendency to overlook the importance of developing one's ear in the early stages of learning. as a music instructor/working musician, each day i see the importance of learning by ear. for example, when a guitar student brings in a song to learn, but no written music can be found - you just have to figure it out by ear, something a musician should really have no problem with. i am not saying 'do not read sheet music' i am saying great job, keep it up!!!

  • I think it is amazing that you learned this by ear. My son has just performed it in a concert (video now uploaded) and he listened to your video while learning the piece, although he learnt from the music. Thanks so much for posting!

  • Wow, this was very well done. ^_^ Great job, really.

  • Thank you very much, I greatly appreciate your compliment. :D

  • eh......ur preety good but u go faster on parts that should be played at the same tempo as thee rest

  • Yeah, one of the problems of learning a piece by ear is that the ear can make you hear it differently. I really should pick up the score one of these days...plus I know I've got a long way to go before I'm really good. :P Thanks for the comment!

  • how long did it take you?

how long have you been perfecting your ear?

  • Well it took me about one day to learn the notes and one day to get the bowing how I wanted it so two days to get it down. As far as "perfecting" my ear...well I'm not sure I'd use perfecting as I'm a long way away from perfection. ^_^;; But I've been working on ear training for as long as I've been playing, five and a half years. Are you a violinist as well?

  • I used the word "perfecting" because I couldn't find a better word.

I am a violinist also, but although I have been playing for almost 6 years I have never had formal lessons so I have no clue how to train my ear, and I cannot learn anything by ear. I'm really a beginner, I know up to 3rd position and am working on 4th.

I have a LONG way to go. I don't know how many positions there are but there are atleast 9 I think...

2 days is amazing! I could never do that.

  • There's something to be said about players who don't have formal lessons. They offer a unique and new sound that formally trained musicians don't have. I was self trained from year 2-5 of my playing so I have a lot of respect and praise for self taught/trained individuals. :D A tip for training your ear; learn simple songs and melodies first by ear. After that the harder stuff comes more naturally. That is how I learned. :P

You should put some videos of yourself up! I'm sure you're great. :D

  • hey dude! Learning by ear is awesome:P But for me and auditioning for the violin program at my college it only gets you so far. Oh, you kick butt:P Lol, iow, you rock!

  • Yeah, ear has its merits but also its downfalls. But, it's really how I picked up a lot of weird, obscure music that I never would have found the scores for. :P And I don't kick butt...well...maybe sometimes....XD Hehehe, you rock as well too!

  • lol. Goober. Whats the haps bro? Not implying we're related... er, you know what i mean right?

  • Haha, nothing much. Just enjoying a much needed night of rest? And wait...we're not related? O_o You sure about that? *gets bloodwork done* Sacrebleu! You're right! :P *captain Goober away!* What's the hizzaps wit' you?

  • if you follow the bible, we all were related at some point:/ Hm.... :D

  • Good point. However wouldn't evolution also propose a similar idea albeit less "family based"? In a sense if we all spawned from the same bacteria and prokaryotic cells wouldn't that make us all related anyways? :P Hehehe, just throwing it out there. XD

  • we belong to the same species... :P I'm human...*looks around nervously... tapping feet*

  • Ack human! NOOOO!!!! Not one of THEM. XD I'm a platypus myself. XP

  • lol. I'm actually a penguin masquerading as a human flavored gummy bear

  • wow that is so beautiful! i've been playing violin for 3 years i can't do what you were doing i would need the sheet music to do it but none the less it was beautiful!

  • Amazing that you did it by ear!

I din't recall it speeding it up at the end though...And the last chord at the end was a little off - but that might be because you don't actually have the music! :p

  • very good!

  • You can find more force and therefore sound if you played a bit more in the middle of the uhm... stråken.... you know, the thing we use for playing on the violin (can't find the word). You play to far up on it. Therefore, not much fortissimo.

    Great though!

  • not bad but stop look at the camera and pay attention to the playing lol

  • Haha, I know I know! Darn camera...it's like an eye that just won't leave your soul alone!! X_X

  • the full piece is in the book called solos for violinists or violins. great job, and good luck on finding the piece.

  • what violin are you using? it sounds very clear and focused.

  • i played this song for state solo and ended up getting a 1 on it. you played it very well! :) espically by ear.. i definately dont have that talent. and nice dynamics!

  • a little too fast, but its pretty good:-)

  • Excellent playing!

You are very good playing by ear...

How long have you been playing the violin?

  • I'll have been playing five years in July. Thank you for the compliment! I appreciate it greatly! :D

  • 5 years...

    *speachless*

  • amazing!

    I love this piece~

  • Thank you so much. I fell in love with it to after hearing it the first time. Now I just need to find the full score!

  • Excellent :)

  • Thank you very much! :D

  • nice!! but play closer to the bridge. idk, but it looks like eeither your playing too far away from the bridge or your fiddle is too low

  • Briliant!! :) Have You got sheet music for this? I'm searching to play it someday and I can't find :(

  • Thank you! I'm sorry but I don't, I learned it by ear. But the user eboyinc (who commented on me as well and is a much better violinist) might have it. I hope that helps!

  • Thanks a lot. I'll ask him :)

  • Bravo!!! Glad to have been the inspiration for YOUR inspired performance. A very firey version...I like it :D

  • Hehe, I like fire in my music, can you tell? :D I love this piece and it's so fun to play and variate. Thanks again for showing it to me!

  • Fire?!:PP Your chords are not so good:P You play it so vulgar:D It's not fire It's aggression! XD

  • I'll be the first to admit, I'm no master and need a lot of work. Thanks for the critique though, I know I need a lot more work!

  • You can't see the difference between fire and aggression? I think it's fire.

Not all violin must be a lullaby!

Keep up the good work :)

  • Thank you so much for that compliment! I'll admit I am a bit aggressive at times, though, so the prior poster might be onto something. It's the mariachi in my blood, I swear! :D

  • I do believe it was one in the same. But then again I am not sure...as I said I learned this by ear so I have no score. It sounds very baroque in certain aspects (though maybe not in my interpretation). I would love to know any more on this piece if anybody does.
