I wonder where this song originally came from? Because it was a hit in the USA, sung in English by Eddie Fisher in the early '50s, which I'm sure is before this version by Freddy Quinn. Of course the title suggests it was originally German.
Wow ! Freddy Quinn I did not know that I could hear his Voice again after living in the USA for 33 Years. You still have the same Impact on me. In Germany he was # 1 for a very long time
Great song - sure takes me back to growing up in the 1960s with my own "Papa."

Both my parents loved this song, sadly my father died in his early sixties and my mother died aged 34 so this stirs some very deep emotions.

Mein Grossvater hat in Zell (Tössthal.Schweiz) das Haus von Paul Burkhart (er hat dieses Lied geschrieben) gebaut.
Und meine Mutter hat bei der orginal Aufführung der Zeller Weihnacht mitgemacht.

the original version (1954) is from the film "feuerwerk" and the song was sung by lilli palmer.
