So it follows that, the richer a person is, the less they need each successive dollar they receive. Meanwhile, millions of people are desperately poor; if they didn't have food stamps and public housing, they'd be on the streets stealing food to survive. They can't afford emergency care or medical procedures...

@keithlabs The reason why health care reform is necessary is because the reason why medical care is so expensive is because our doctors have been turned by the drug companies into salesmen. Doctors ought to be paid by salary, not by services rendered or by commission from the health insurance companies. They are, after all, servants of the people. I think that the health care bill passed in 2009 goes a long way towards rectifying these problems.

@keithlabs I would argue that the west developed rule of law and a robust economy *in spite of* not having welfare. I think that a large part of our success as an economy and as a people, culturally, has been the rise of unions, regulation of industry, and progressive taxes. These things help prevent the problem you see in places like rural Brazil, where the poor stay poor, and the rich stay rich; it creates social mobility, and allows for the growth of a strong middle class.

You make poverty suck less, therefore people will be less motivated to avoid it. This is common sense. And wage levels are simply the result of supply and demand in the labor market. People are paid more because they are more productive and earn their employers more. If they are underpaid someone hires them away for more. Hence pay tracks productivity.

Doctors ought to be paid by salary, not by services rendered or by commission from the health insurance companies. They are, after all, servants of the people. I think that the health care bill passed in 2009 goes a long way towards rectifying these problems.

I think that a large part of our success as an economy and as a people, culturally, has been the rise of unions, regulation of industry, and progressive taxes. @whetlands Those Old testment rules are still supposed to be followed. Jesus did not do away with eye for eye. Jesus was saying that you should not use eye for eye to go around picking fights for every small infraction that happens to you. People would use eye for eye to take vengance on every little thing and blow it out of proportion for what the law was meant for.

Look up the passages in your own Bible if you don't believe them ("Get off your lazy rear end for once in your life."). I'm pretty sure they use the King James Version, which to my knowledge is the oldest commonly-used edition.

In other words, is it a sin to refuse to do evil when ordered to. Your fairytale book says not to kill or rape, then your God says "well its ok when i say to do it". The bible says you can not kill without just cause (murder). When God orders a rightoes man to kill it has a cause. God has never ordered a rightoes man to rape a woman. But God can use an evil man such as yourself to rape someone else for raping others.

@MrGobBluth Rape is wrong, but you are ignoring the fact God had a right to punish these rapests. So God took a group of evil men and used them to rape them back. It was God punshing people for what they did. He just happend to use evil men to carry out this particular punishment. God could have killed all these people with his own hand, instead he used men to do it.

@PrinceFelipe Granted, he hasn't told us to rape anyone, but he has told us to stone people to death if they work on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 "Six days shall work bedone, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.", people who follow other gods (Exodus 22:20), homosexuals (Leviticus 20:13), and rape victims who don't scream loud enough (Deuteronomy 22:23-24). So much for preaching forgiveness.

@whetlands Yes people do deserve to be put to death for working on the Sabath. Factorys should be closed down the Sabath, farming should be stopped. But there are many things that have to be done everyday like taking care of people or feeding peope or protecting someone that are not sins on the Sabath. The USA is not a Christian nation so we do not keep the Sabath.

@whetlands Deuteronomy 22:23-24 the woman could go tell somone after the rape was over if she could not cry out loud enough during the rape. If she does not go tell any one that means it was consexual sex.
My mother's friend was raped in the apartment beneath us. She is disabled so she could not scream out while she was pinned down by the rapist. So no one knew it happend. She did however tell after it was over.

@PrinceFelipe As for the rape, the Bible says NOTHING about forgiving them if they confess to being raped after. It rather starkly says, "If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city." The bible also doesn't say that disability is a proper excuse. You should stone her.

God used these evil people to punish the others, God never told them to rape the others, God just used them to carry out the punishment. They with their freewill chose to rape and God would hold it against them. But like I said God can use evil men to punish evil men.
